will the A's be better than last year? what odds to give them to score on Sale tonight?
Owen Watson
8:35
I think they can go .500.
8:36
Then again, the A's last year were an argument for baseball nihilism
Terrible Ted
8:36
Donaldson bomb!
Owen Watson
8:36
I missed it!
Gene
8:37
How disappointing are weather cancellations on opening day? The worst. Such a drag.
Owen Watson
8:37
I had a really hard time accepting the fact that I wasn't going to be watching Kluber today.
Ryan

A friend just asked, and I thought I'd pass it on to everyone here: What do we know about pitch sequencing? How do the pros decide what they're going to throw next? Is it just gut? Has there ever been a major analysis of it?
Owen Watson
8:38
There has been good work on this in the past year, mostly at Hardball Times and BP, if I remember correctly.
Brett Lawrie's Empty Redbull Can
8:39
While you were chasing Kershaw you missed a Donaldson Ding-dong
Owen Watson
8:39
Brutal
Sam C
8:40
And it's a rib cage for Revere.. I know someone was asking earlier.
Owen Watson
8:40
Noooo Benjamin!
AJ Smellis
8:40
I'd kill to see Kershaw pitch against the blue jays in the WS
Bork
8:40
Think Sonny Gray is an A by the end of the year?
Owen Watson
8:40
Absolutely not
8:41
Arbitration coming
Bip
8:41
Seriously? How has a guy who gets like the best defensive rating ever given be underrated? I haven't watched him, but I also make a point not to trust my eyes too much
Owen Watson
8:41
It's not just the eyes. Route efficiency is off the charts
Nate
8:42
Which of the 6 rebuilding teams (CIN, SD, MIL, COL, ATL, PHI) has the best chance of making the playoffs?
Owen Watson
8:42
Cincinnati. Starting pitching goes crazy and they somehow sneak in. I feel dirty just say that, though
Bip
8:42
There was something about sequencing on Effectively Wild a little while ago, I think by Harry Pavlidis I think
Owen Watson
8:43
Harry's the man!
Dave
8:43
What should we make of Joc Pederson? His plate discipline numbers and hard hit rate are basically the same as those of Kris Bryant. Are we really ready to concede that a fast-ish guy who hits the ball really hard is going to be a low BABIP player?
Owen Watson
8:44
Big difference is IFFB%, which are as good as Ks
8:45
If we go by minor league BABIP, sure, he's definitely got some regression upwards coming. But the contact has to improve
Not only whether he makes contact, but quality of contact when he does, i.e. cutting down on the pop ups
Cam
8:45
I'd like to humbly apologize for using Kershaw to distract you from Donaldson slugging one out.
Owen Watson
8:46
You evil
kyle
8:46
how does everyone feel about Byron Buxton?
Owen Watson
8:46
I am optimistic about him this year! But not without growing pains, and potentially many of them. Maybe a kick ass second half?
CamdenWarehouse
8:46
Adam Jones just struck out on a ball that bounced five feet in front of the plate.
Owen Watson
8:47
I think, given the way his plate approach has been trending, he could potentially Vlad Guerrero a bouncing ball soon

Owen Watson
8:47
Thanks!
Brett Lawrie's Empty Redbull Can
8:47
Most likely opening day starter to pull a Drew Hutchison (AAA opening day starter the next year)?
Owen Watson
8:48
Jeremy Hellickson
Joe
8:48
What do you think of Cubs lineup tonight? Not sure I love Fowler-Heyward-Zobrist top 3.
Owen Watson
8:49
At this point, I think the Cubs lineup configurations are tantamount to deciding which hot and delicious pizza toppings you want when you're incredibly hungry
Bip
8:50
I think that's it though, a guys who's incredibly fast with great route efficiency should get about the best UZR rating ever given, but probably not more.
