I do give the Phillies like a 45% chance of finishing above the Braves

When does it become okay to cut bait on a young player/prospect? Everybody laments terry ryan for cutting Ortiz but nobody gives a shit about the brewers cutting nelson cruz?
Jeff Sullivan
3:29
Ryan cut a cheap and productive Ortiz. The Brewers traded Cruz with Carlos Lee for a package

Awesome opening day, MLB. PPD.

How does the CBA affect the Red Sox Patriot's Day game?
Pete Incaviglia

Jeff your feelings for Scott Spiezio soften any since your Friday chat ?how about your thoughts about me ?
Jeff Sullivan
3:32
I have no thoughts about you but Scott Spiezio can [have consensual relations with] himself
Sean Dolinar

You aren't suppose to start games before noon local time. I think there are some exceptions or an allotment of a few games that can start before noon.
Erik
3:32
Is there a more depressing sort of player to watch than Chris Carter? You know how hard they can hit the ball, but you also know they can't do anything else and they'll nearly always disappoint. Or maybe I'm just scarred by Ryan Howard.
Jeff Sullivan
3:32
Pre-WAR, it would be easier to love these players
Sean Dolinar
3:33
Then there's requirement for time between games be so long after traveling depending how long the flight is.
Would you rather..
3:33
Be a great baseball player or a great GM?
Jeff Sullivan
3:33
The first one. You'd be a multi-millionaire and you'd be retired by 40
Randy Savage
3:34
What's the hold up with the Min v Bal game?
Jeff Sullivan
3:34
God's disapproval
Sean Dolinar

Here's the CBA if anyone is interested: http://mlb.mlb.com/pa/pdf/cba_english.pdf

If proximity kills your heroes, I can't imagine dating a celebrity crush is a very good idea...
Jeff Sullivan
3:35
A celebrity crush probably shouldn't be a hero
We've got a 5-3 Giants lead on an RBI sac fly by Span

Early evaluation of Keon Broxton's arm: it's fine
Brandon
3:36
Thanks Sean I'll just read all 300 pages really quick and get back to you
Sean Dolinar
3:37
It comes in handy!
TF Fredrik
3:37
Gotta hand it to Wily Peralta. He is in mid-season form.
Jeff Sullivan
3:37
THIS IS GOING SO SLOW
3:38
At least we have Felix and Hamels in half an hour

3:38
Who's a good example of intensity (borderline assholeishness) on the field not meaning the guy's actually an asshole? Stroman came to mind watching him yesterday, but I'm sure there are better examples.
Jeff Sullivan
3:38
Mostly Stroman

With the approval of the Commissioner, not more than 4
games per League per year may be scheduled or rescheduled to start
between 10:30 A.M. and Noon, if, with respect to both Clubs, the
conditions stated in paragraph (6) above with respect to scheduling
and rescheduling of day games between Noon and l P.M. are met.
That's the before noon restriction.

Any truth to the idea that pitcher performance is flatter earlier in the year (i.e. aces are more likely to struggle, marginal guys are more likely to do okay)?
Jeff Sullivan
3:41
I don't know of any real studies, but it makes some sense to me that pitchers aren't yet at 100%. Even though it's opening day, baseball hasn't quite settled into its routine
Of course, the earlier it is, the colder it is, and the better it is for run prevention in general
K-Man
Sm Miller read the CBA so you don't have to
Jeff Sullivan

Gennett's second career walk against a lefty!
Big day for Gennett! Except for the error
Wily Peralta is batting right now. whatever
Randy Savage
3:44
Do you think you would like Logan Morrison as a person?
Jeff Sullivan
3:44
I think we would have different interests

Jeff, how much panic will M's fans have if Felix is average today?
