why do we have to boo people on Opening Day
hi everyone
The Dude of NY
12:47
Opening day has me exited like this.
Wily Mo Money Mo Problems

Could you please explain the Pirates' lineup construction to me? I realize that the analytics support moving Cutch to the 2 hole, but it seems to be coming at the expense of moving Freese to 3. A top 4 of Jaso, Harrison, McCutchen, and Marte just seems like it *has* to be more productive, but am I looking at this wrong?
august fagerstrom
12:48
Freese batting 3rd is a bit odd.
12:49
McCutchen hitting second definitely seems like the right move. Surprised 3-5 isn't some combo of Marte, Polanco, Cervelli, Harrison
12:50
Marte should probably be third. He's a class above the rest of those guys. After Jaso-McCutchen-Marte it probably doesn't matter much.
12:51
Then again the reason why they moved McCutchen out of the third spot was because of the "most times coming to bat with 2 outs and nobody on" thing so maybe they're just rebelling against the 3-hole by sticking David Freese there
12:52
goodness gracious that John Jaso hair

12:52
Is there somewhere where I could go to read about what the ideal lineup construction is?

You should run a poll about which game today people are most excited to watch.
august fagerstrom
12:54
done!
12:55
I'd be pretty surprised if it wasn't Mets-Royals. Tough to beat a WS rematch

If John Jaso could hit lefties the way he hit righties, are we talking All-Star Caliber player?
august fagerstrom
12:57
Career 127 wRC+ vs. RHP
That's like a .350 wOBA
So that's like Prince Fielder
12:58
About what he's projected for this year.
Still no defense, and he's up against all the best first baseman
Would be a real good bat. Good player. But he'd still be all bat, and he wouldn't be the best bat.

Liriano to Carpenter, first pitch, what do you got: Takes a ball? Takes a strike? Swings away?
august fagerstrom

I'm saying takes a ball. Fastball, missed low and away

If the Cleveland Indians got league average pitching, how bad are we talking for their team?
august fagerstrom
1:02
League average projected SP WAR is about 13 WAR, so that chops 4 wins off. Think they'd still actually be projected for the best record in the division. They'd be like 1 WAR above the White Sox. That surprises me. I would've thought bad
Feels like it'd be worse

Highlight play of the year is provided by whom?

Andrelton!

RE: Poll - Stroman v Archer is enough to elicit more excitement from me than the WS rematch. Love those dudes.
august fagerstrom

True. Story behind Mets-Royals will be cool though

So is Pollock really cooked for the whole year? And if he is, is Socrates the answer?
august fagerstrom
1:04
Sure doesn't seem good. Same thing that cost him an entire season in 2010
And the fact that he "hopes" to play this year certainly isn't encouraging
Seems a Brito/Owings platoon is what they're planning on now, but I wouldn't be surprised if they brought in someone like Michael Bourn just because
1:05
Not sure that makes them any better but seems like something that could happen. They said they'd explore veteran options of guys who didn't make OD rosters

Who's up first for my Braves once Aybar is traded......Swanson or Albies??
august fagerstrom
1:06
Albies is 19
so
1:07
Swanson. Though it's far from certain that Swanson's up this year. He's never played a game above low A
