Prediction time: who wins the Cardinals / Pirates game, and what's the final score?
august fagerstrom
1:07
Cardinals, 4-2
Tommy C.

Since Houston has so many 1B options (White, Gonzalez, Singleton), does A.J. Reed have a realistic shot of making an impact with the Astros this year?
august fagerstrom
1:09
Yes, absolutely. Gonzalez is a de facto first baseman, I don't think the organization has any faith in Singleton, and White is a placeholder. Reed is the top bat in the system, he'll probably be up as soon as possible

I love how they immediately use W/L record to value Wainwright. On a scale of 1-10 how ready are you for everyone to forget that this stat even exists?
august fagerstrom
1:11
it's pretty easy to ignore. but it's going away, slowly
Scott
1:11
August, what or who are you most excited to see in this first game?
august fagerstrom
1:11
Pretty excited to watch Liriano pitch. He's a lot of fun just due to how unique his approach is
1:12
Fewest percentage of pitches thrown inside the strike zone last season and one of the highest chase rates!
1:13
Excited to see Grichuk and Piscotty hit. Excited to see Matt Holliday play first base. Excited to see Yadier Molina catch pitches. Excited to see Andrew McCutchen do everything
Excited for baseball
Daniel

august fagerstrom
1:14
John Jaso, second at-bat
The Hamburglar
1:14
How many ballparks have you been to, Fagerstrom?
august fagerstrom
1:14
A bunch. Like 23?
Pat
1:14
It seems weird to me that Martin is batting 8th for the Jays. Thoughts?
august fagerstrom
1:14
Seems weird that Pillar is batting leadoff, too. Not sure.
Colin

Career W-L record can actually be a good way to value a pitcher, I believe. Go look at the winningest career pitchers, no one lucked their way there.
august fagerstrom
1:15
Couldn't straight up innings pitched essentially accomplish the same thing?
Bip
1:15
They just said Cole Figueroa made the Pirates' roster! I didn't know that!
august fagerstrom
1:15
Made me pretty happy. Cool story
Hey, baseball is about to happen!

Evan

Re W-L, literally true that you assess a pitcher named, say, Wadam Ainwright, who had identical stats to Adam Wainwright but a career .500 record in the same # of decisions? I mean, you don't think about him in *any* way differently?
august fagerstrom
1:21
I wouldn't have seen it in the first place, probably
