But don't you want to make sure Miller faces the top of the order? Only argument not to start Miller is it messes with Klubers his routine. There is no leverage argument to be made in a game 7.
Jeff Sullivan

Smoltz keeps saying the home run did nothing to bother Kluber. It probably did *something* to bother Kluber
Craig Edwards
5:26
I think Miller will face the top of the order eventually no matter when he comes in.
Jeff Sullivan
5:26
Real easy inning for Kluber. To the bottom of the second! Still 1-0 Cubs

Will we ever see Mike Trout in the World Series?
Sean Dolinar
5:27
If he gets traded or if 2014 went differently.
Jeff Sullivan
5:27
Kluber: 10 fastballs, 16 non-fastballs
Cubs odds hanging at 56%

Baez = Enigma
Craig Edwards
5:28
he's about what we thought. He's just grouped his hits and Ks in different series.

Is there anything to be learned from early innings EV or xBA results? Hard hit balls for outs tend to translate into hits later? Anything like that?
Jeff Sullivan
5:29
Nah, it's nothing but a curiosity. Don't think it indicates anything other than what already happened
5 Run Homer
5:29
How did I never see that Keuchel comp?
Jeff Sullivan
5:29
Probably the righty/lefty thing

Hendricks was almost the same guy in 2015, but his E-F is a run and a half different this year because of defense, probably
Craig Edwards
5:30
if there are a bunch of high EV, you might look for symptoms of something else, like a bunch of pitches over the heart of the plate, but it is more fun than predictive.
Jeff Sullivan
5:30
He also developed and improved this inside four-seamer against lefties. So some of it is real
Joe West
5:31
What's the pitch count for Kluber tonight? Or is it an innings count until the bullpen?
Jeff Sullivan
5:31
Probably good for a little under two trips through the order
Leadoff single for Ramirez, off of Hendricks' body

Has anyone studied a "familiarity penalty"?
Craig Edwards
5:31
It's not all defense. Some of it is defense, some if it is luck, and some of it is weak contact, which likely has some skill component.
Jeff Sullivan
5:32
Ben Lindbergh checked recently and found that repeat starters within a series don't suffer statistically at all
Corey

If it starts raining, how long of a delay do they allow before postponing it?
Craig Edwards
5:32
A really long one.
Mike Sixel
5:32
Jeff...any good mountain hikes still open, or are they all snowed in now?
Jeff Sullivan
5:32
You can ask me questions like this on Friday!
Austin G
5:33
I'm so worried about this game that I just tore half the dental bar off the back of my bottom teeth. Baseball!
Jeff Sullivan
5:33
Ramirez picked off!
Holy crap
Craig Edwards
5:33
I'm going to the dentist tomorrow.
Sean Dolinar
5:33
Usually, rain delays last 90-120 before they call it in the regular season. By then the field is usually unplayable.
Jeff Sullivan
5:34
And now Chisenhall singles. So that's probably aggravating
Smoltz makes a simple but critical point. You can't assume that Chisenhall would've singled if Ramirez hadn't been picked off. Changes the whole situation, and changes the pitching approach
I wish more people understood this
Craig Edwards
5:34
That was a really strong throw.
Sean Dolinar
5:34
That defense.
Jeff Sullivan
5:35
And the inning is over. Soooo
Brendan
5:35
Where would you guys rank this game in terms of biggest/most anticipated baseball games during your lifetime?
Jeff Sullivan
5:35
This is at least the most anticipated game since, what, Game 7 2001?
