He was able to discern balls from strikes quite well in the minors .... wonder if that's going to return
5:44
Could the Rays teach Kershaw a changeup?
Carson Cistulli
5:44
Hello, Travis and Eno and everyone.
Travis Sawchik
5:44
Hey, boss!
Josiah
5:45
Is the next frontier in player flexibility having position pitchers who can pitch in long relief ala Bethancourt?
Travis Sawchik
5:45
Otoni :)
Carson Cistulli
5:45
That's one word for what I'm not.
Travis Sawchik
5:45
Gatekeeper of posts
Carson Cistulli
5:45
You're watching Minnesota, Sawchik?
Travis Sawchik
5:45
Yeah, I kind of zoned out and it's still on TV
Carson Cistulli
5:46
Appears to have the highest leverage index of all the present games, at least.
Or, maybe Toronto/Baltimore does. So *nearly* the highest.
Eno Sarris
5:46
About that Bethancourt /player flex question: maybe but they won't play catcher. History says CF. Maybe SS/MI would be great.
5:47
Like if Ryan Goins could pitch. Or Sam Fuld.
Southpaw the fuzzy alligator
5:47
Travis you need to head over to Buffalo Wild Wings.
Blue Morpho

Eno does the gameday classic hack still work?
Travis Sawchik
5:47
Yeah, I do. But I'd worry about laptop on bar top
Carson Cistulli
5:47
Eno! Please comment on this potential "hack."
Toasty
5:48
the only hack I'm gonna comment on is cistulli
Carson Cistulli
5:48
Burn.

5:48
Carson, you need to do a weekly chat. Please?
Eno Sarris
5:49
No, looks like the link for the classic is gone.
Carson Cistulli
5:49
One should endeavor to "leave them wanting more." In my case, I want to "leave them wanting *any*."
Travis Sawchik
5:49
That's Travis Snider eventually striking out Joey Votto

Kershaw's changeup looks really bad. The only thing going for it is the surprise factor.
He's also thrown it anywhere from 84 to 90 mph today.
Eno Sarris
5:49
and he's been working on it for years!
Brian
5:50
Betancourt is not as you would say, good.
Travis Sawchik
5:51
So Kershaw is treating this start like his final spring training tuneup?
Carson Cistulli
5:51
You know what's strange about that, asabin (et al)? Vin Scully used to refer to Kershaw's curve as a changeup all the time. Or, at least in a number of games I watched. Which was strange. I wasn't sure if it was simply a mis-identification or maybe a synonym for a curve from another era.

Corey Seager is a monster baseball player.
Eno Sarris
5:51
He's physically impressive.
LJS
5:52
Why would it be hard for Kershaw to throw a change Up?
Eno Sarris
5:52
Over the top guy, I'd guess.
It's easier to turn over the changeup from the 2/3 slot.

5:52
Point of fact, a curveball can be a changeup, if its function is to a significant degree as a change of speed.
Eno Sarris
5:53
If the hitter can't tell it's a curveball.
Carson Cistulli
5:53
If there's a two-thirds arm slot and three-quarters slot, is there also a one-half slot? A 1/10 slot?
What was Dan Quisenberry?
