A lot!
Eric A Longenhagen
7:22
Yeah, a lot.
Joe Girardi
7:22
Hello. I am Joe Girardi. I am definitely in this studio, reading this teleprompter, willingly, and of my own volition. Here is a copy of today's newspaper that I'm holding up.
Craig

Bart calls his own games for his college team, do MLB catcher call their own games typically? Or do college coaches call games typically and MLB catchers typicall or what?
Eric A Longenhagen
7:24
They do not. College coaches are draconian and call them mots of the time.
Alex
7:24
Talk to me about Joey Bart
Eric A Longenhagen
7:25
Defensive profile already largely in place. Has power. We think there's swing and miss and it might not be corrected when he's in the minors since his glove might get him to the bigs quicker than the bat develops, kind of like what happened with Zunino.

Bohm has a 20 grade buttoning ability
Eric A Longenhagen
7:28
Alec Bohm has huge raw power, surprising bat control for his size (9% K rate) and is athletic for his size. Chance to stay at third, swing tweak might unlock crazy power.
BTW, the Draft Board has where we think these guys rank on the top 100: https://www.fangraphs.com/scoutboard.aspx?draft=2018mlb&type=0&pos=all...

I'm uncomfortable with the "[player] is now the property of [team]."
RyanW
7:29
Can someone tell the studio guys to maybe not call these kids "property"?
Eric A Longenhagen
7:29
Yeah, happens more than I'd like it to on MLB Network broadcasts. Just makes a lot of people feel icky.
Rhaye
7:29
Who is Grayson Rodriguez and why have I started hearing the Reds are on him at 5?
Eric A Longenhagen
7:29
I think I'd like to know why/how you're hearing that, too.
WCP
7:30
Bohm is talkative.
Curious
7:30
Bohm also has 20 interview skills lol
buhgtnrjckmd
7:30
Alec Bohm's interview LMAO
Eric A Longenhagen
7:30
He hits the ball really far and that's all I care about.
Rick Hahn

Help! Kenny Williams has stolen the phone and ran away! Tell the commish not to listen to him! We want Madrigal! WE WANT MADRIGAL!!!

I love him, everything about him. Speed, glove, bat, think he's gonna hit for some power.
Tim Salmon
7:33
We're just going to presume baseball still exists in 2019, Eric..?
Eric A Longenhagen
7:34
I guess we're betting Earth still exists, so vote in your midterms

For all those complaining about the use of the word "property", we could make the players all a free agent as they deserve to be but then everyone would complain that is unfair in favor of the larger markets.  Fans want these players to be "property" but do not want them called that.

Strategically, what do you make of the Padres (alleged) strategy of going underslot early? I know it's fairly common and often likened to trading down in the NFL draft, but do you have any sense of whether it's typically a good or bad idea?
Eric A Longenhagen
7:35
I think it's beneficial if the situation is ripe for it, and it's hard to explain what situations are and aren't good for it because each draft's pick order and player composition is so unique. You have to get a feel for who will be around that you'll wanna spend the extra money on and you have to get a good player, under slot, with your first pick.
7:36
like the Cubs Schwarber draft. They got a good player, added volume late and hit on Cease

Can we just have Scout's face and your voices/
AvatarKiley McDaniel
7:36
That's an idea

When you put a grade on what pitchers throw, do you use the physical aspects alone (Velo, movement, pitch mix, maybe spin) or do you bake in results for those  pitches as well (Whiff, GB, IFFB, foul %)?
Eric A Longenhagen
7:37
Mostly the former because, for minor leaguers, we rarely have access to the latter. It's one of our biggest holes and I wish we had Trackmen averywhere
Spicy Boy
7:37
how far does swaggerty slide?
Real Alex P. Keaton
7:37
Any chance Kyler Murray would quit football and start playing baseball full time this summer for the right bonus number?
AvatarKiley McDaniel
7:37
Sounds like he goes 9-12. Shouldn't get past 12 unless him and India get there
Eric A Longenhagen
7:38
No idea what that number is. Think $2.5 million is close to where he needs to think about it.
Simon
7:38
Madrigal to the White Sox!
