So, the chatters here tonight are liking the decision by Cleveland...
Ryno

About what time do you expect them to get to the Steelers pick?
Brian Batko
8:19
Probably be between 11:30 and midnight if they don't move up.
Sean Gentille
8:19
Probably around the start of Game 2 of Pens-Caps.

Better baker than Darnold
Alex

I’m a Mayfield fan, but I don’t agree with the pick. Seems like a reach. Rosen and Darnold are much better pure passing quarterbacks
Sean Gentille
8:21
Again -- drafting Josh Allen would be peak Browns. Mayfield makes a lot more sense than that dude. It's not as much of a joke as people are making it out to be.
8:22
Giants are taking Saquon Barkley, to the surprise of nobody.
Brian Batko
8:22
Dang, thought he might slip to 28
Marty
8:25
for a @1 pick  are you kidding Sean
Brian Batko
8:25
Drag him, Marty
Fry
8:25
Jets have to go Darnold
Sean Gentille
8:26
I'm not saying it was a great pick, but there was a worse decision right in front of them, and they avoided it. That is by definition not "pulling a Browns." I think Mayfield will be fine.
Brian Batko
8:26
I like Rosen more than Darnold, but admittedly didn't get to see a whole heck of a lot of Pac-12 football. Do think Rosen has a better chance of thriving if he's somewhere like NYC, given his persona.
Sean Gentille
8:26
Is fine what you want from a No. 1 pick? Nope. But "fine" is better than "bust," and Allen has that written all over him.

Given their need for and ILB, do you feel they will scrap their best player philosophy and reach for a LB or grab the best player for their team like a CB or TE?
Sean Gentille
8:28
I think if Evans or Vander Esch is around, they'll also magically be the best player available. Ed Bouchette wrote this earlier -- they draft for need in the first round. They've done it every year.
Brian Batko
8:28
Our Steelers gurus Ed Bouchette and Ray Fittipaldo don't think the front office will reach for anyone, but that to me is the million dollar question this year for the ol' black and gold. I guess they'll go best player available, within reason.
Sean Gentille
8:28
There's a difference between drafting for need and reaching. They might do the former, but they don't do the latter.
8:29
Jets take Darnold.
OK, so now you gotta figure the Browns go Bradley Chubb at No. 4.
The Dorsey regime apparently loves him.

What would the Steelers need to give up in a trade to get another 3rd round pick?  In addition to the obvious ILB & safety needs, they would benefit greatly  by picking up RB and WR.
Sean Gentille
8:31
Sam Darnold is extremely boring, so he'll do well with the Jets. Doesn't seem like a dude who will get into trouble.
Brian Batko
8:31
Usually two or three lower-round picks, like the fourth through seventh range, will get you into the third.
Marty
8:31
how about the OT from Notre Dame   Thomas retired & they need to protect their QB
Sean Gentille
8:32
I dunno if the Browns roll with Quenten Whatever-his-name-is, Marty, but man ... scouts seem to love that dude. Plenty of people sourced in mocks think he's gonna be the best player in the draft. I saw it several times.
Brian Batko
8:34
Quenton Nelson is the guard, Mike McGlinchey is the tackle. Nelson has a little more buzz, but yeah, I go Chubb here if I'm Cleveland. Ben Roethlisberger might switch gears and decide to retire if he's staring at Myles Garrett and Chubb on the edges two times a year.

Is it sad this chat is more exciting than the talking heads on television?

We aim to please.

Yes.

Let's be serious.....Mayfield could have been had at #4,,,,,if he was their guy at QB, it made more sense to pick Barkley at #1....no?
Brian Batko
8:35
I'm not sure it's a slam dunk that Mayfield would be there fourth, but I understand the sentiment. Mayfield-Chubb would still be a solid haul.
Sean Gentille
8:36
I honestly think they'd rather have Chubb.
Maybe that's dumb, but I kind of doubt they're surprised by this.
Hahaha, they took Denzel Ward. I don't know anything.
Brian Batko
8:36
Aaaand the Browns are reportedly going off the grid and taking Denzel Ward, the CB from Ohio State. Someone has to try to cover Antonio Brown.
Sean Gentille
8:37
I think *now* is when you can say "Browns gonna Brown."
