I think that's a fair assessment of Buck. Will add that I thought Joe Davis did a really nice job with Smoltz in that one ALCS game.

joe Davis is excellent. My dislike of Buck has waned somewhat over the years as I realized it was often his partners in the booth that were causing me to grind my molars to dust

and Buck's cameos on Brockmire have been very funny
