Re: Opt Outs: Have we seen anyone actually opt out and sign with a different team, instead of just using it as leverage a la Kershaw or Sabathia or ARod?
Ben Clemens
9:39
Off the top of my head, Greg Holland, amusingly.
Though that was a player option rather than an opt out.
The Hamburglar
9:39
Wait, what? That guys stole my username? The REAL Hamburglar does not have a late business dinner
Ben Clemens
9:39
Well that's quite confusing.
Would you say that he.... burgled.... your name?
I'll show myself out.
Meg Rowley
9:39
didn't expect his burgling to involve your identity

How did the Nationals acquire Hudson??
Ben Clemens
9:39
Deadline trade.
Alfredo

Greinke opted out from LAD, went to Arizona
Lunar verLander

What's the difference between an opt out and a player option?
Ben Clemens
9:41
So, I'm not a CBA expert, but as I understand it, it comes down to how salaries are counted for the cap?
Because if a contract has roller-coaster style salaries, they take an AAV to apply to the cap
With some unspecified discounting for deferred, Nats-style ones.

Ok, I did NOT ask the Hudson question!!!
Ben Clemens
9:42
My my my.
So if you have a player option, that, I assume, wouldn't get AAV'ed?
But an opt out would?
I'm Ben Clemens
9:42
Boo
Ben Clemens
9:43
Well this just gets more and more confusing.
Ben Clemens
9:43
Hold on, I didn't write that stuff about the CBA and opt-outs

So the consensus is that Strasburg, relative to ‘’most hyped pitching prospect ever’’, has neither disappointed nor exceeded expectations?
Ben Clemens
9:43
I think I'd give him a slightly exceeds

I always though player options were at the end of of a contract and opt-outs were in the middle?
Ben Clemens
9:45
Sure, but it's just semantics, right? Like you could have a two-year contract with a player optoin for two more years
Or a four-year contract with an opt out after two
When I modeled them up in the offseason I treated all of them as player options
Meg Rowley
9:45
How do the camera folks always know where their families are?
Ben Clemens
9:45
As in, assume nothing and the player has a choice to add a second contract to the first
But it's all semantics (plus potential cap math)
Bran Beer

Their own families? Or players' families?
