Big shout out to the broadcast for sticking around for the pitching chnage
Brown and Gold Star

Houston Win% went down by 2.8% according to statcast... if that's the best case scenario outside of an error I just don't get it
5 Run Homer

Jake Rogers has such insane 70s face
Ben Clemens
5:28
First and second no outs is one of the best spots to bunt, I think that's why old heads like it
it's just..... being down 2 makes it a lot worse

i put Houston's win chance at 999% here. this feels so inevitable.
Ben Clemens
5:28
gotta play to win, playing for a tie is for suckers
Shirtless George Brett
5:29
For a guy who is really really fast Witt sure gets thrown out too much stealing.

Man, close CS at second.  Whew.
Ben Clemens
5:29
I wanted to write about his elite base stealing instincts in my series preview
5:30
and uh.... the stats did not agree with my narrative
Shirtless George Brett
5:32
Witt has the top speed but seems to take too long to get there. On his 90' splits he is actually is slower than Ohtani (not that he is slow, slow) over the first 55ish feet.
Davy Andrews
5:32
Doesn't handedness affect this? Ohtani's momentum is taking him toward first.
Ben Clemens
5:32
People really misunderstand speed. This is the case across sports. Acceleration is a massive component of what makes people "fast"
5:33
Boy, too bad the Astros have two outs instead of one here, huh?
Davy Andrews
5:33
Hard to read your tone here, Ben.

Postseason experience will save the day
Time for a veteran AB from Heyward
Colton
5:35
Not sure if this has been said already, but burning Blanco and Hader in a game they didn't have the lead seems like an odd choice for Espada
Davy Andrews
5:35
It has been said, but if they win here, then it will have been an act of prognosticatory genius.

Sadly for Tigers fans, post season experience may be a thing afterall...

only 88.9 EV on that Heyward ball but it looked like it was 110

Modeling the postseason, I get a very slight *advantage* for less playoff experience (probably the age variable)

Having the best pitcher in the league is pretty clever.

That gentlemen is why playoff baseball has a very large portion of luck involved.
Ben Clemens
5:37
also, you wouldn't do well. You'd move your pieces around and they'd just hop over and take them!
MOOOOOKIE
5:37
I've always theorized that shorter legged folks get more steps in per unit distance traveled and this must be an advantage for accelerating / getting up to top speed quickly
AvatarDan Szymborski

Never worked for me!
AvatarJay Jaffe
5:37
OK folks, hell of a start to the 2024 postseason! I'm going to move along here
