One AB, 1 K. I am so afraid that hitting continues to become too difficult, almost unacceptable, as more and more pitchers are simply too big and too fast.

Maybe (but maybe not). It's a long season.

If the world ends right now, Austin Wells s the MVP!
Matt Martell

Austin Wells, leadoff extraordinaire!
AvatarDan Szymborski

I mean, he has the mustache of an All-Star catcher

True or False: Devers is a great offensive 3B but a mediocre offensive DH.
AvatarDavid Laurila
3:21
False.
AvatarDan Szymborski
3:22
No, he's well above average for a DH too

Wells on the 1st pitch of the season!!!!
AvatarDavid Laurila

Shades of Dwight Evans.
AvatarDan Szymborski
3:22
There are like three good DHs, some decent ones, and a whole bunch of "OK, mostly the injured guy or an off day" DHs

Lead-in to US National Anthem in Toronto was a well-spoken urge to separate baseball and politic, and be respectful.

My back hurts just watching Cody Bellinger swing

Dave. I remember 1986 from first pitch to last.

I was in a basement office at the Detroit Institute of Arts when Evans went deep. Had to return to work upstairs shortly thereafter.

Did you see the White Sox lineup today? I wish them well, but... yikes.
AvatarDavid Laurila
3:28
Definitely a few years away from contending. Very promising farm, though.

What is causing the long delay in Toronto? it ain't theeweather.
AvatarDavid Laurila
3:29
Way too much pregame stuff it seems. They are honoring Kevin Kiermaier on the field at the moment.
AvatarDan Szymborski

ZiPS has 42.6 WAR the rest of Devers career at 3B, 42.3 WAR at DH. He's fine at DH
Matt Martell
3:31
That would put his career WAR at 67.8. Are we underrating how good he is?
Matt Martell
3:29
It would be the most Angels thing ever if the White Sox ended this weekend as the only undefeated team in baseball

Pretty sweet tribute to Kiermaier in Toronto
AvatarDan Szymborski

If the white sox are the only undefeated team this weekend, someone needs to unplug the MLB season and reboot it

"Let it ride for this year" is currently winning...an unprecedented showing of pity from the usually cruel internet

https://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?position=Team The 3 AL Central playoff teams are projected for exactly 40 WAR (CLE, DET, and KC). Which team will have the best season?

Do you guys see Devers now as the heir apparent to the throne of David Ortiz, sort of a knight to the never to be deposed King?
AvatarDan Szymborski

He's good enough to be his own dude!

Woohoo! Really impressed with the Blue Jays’ new hitting coach. He is working with the players’ natural movements rather than trying to mould them all into one vision. The previous regime managed to mess up many hitters.
AvatarDavid Laurila
3:38
Did the "previous regime" truly attempt to do that?

Park factors are more a positive than a negative... are they not?
The 6ix
3:41
They tried to change hitters to match the coach’s philosophy rather than work with each hitter’s natural movement individually. Addison Barger a prime example.
Matt Martell

That Volpe HR would've been gone in 9 ballparks, per Statcast. Wasn't as much of a Yankee Stadium cheapy as it looked.
