Breathing heavily, Pip burst through the barn door beckoning the others to follow her inside the gloom. Shouts could be heard from the path behind them as they scrambled into the ramshackle building. Pulling out a torch, Pip dragged the beam across abandoned stalls, dishevelled and forgotten piles of hay and a single water trough frozen over like glass. Dust clogged the air as every footstep sent up another cloud around them. A scuffle from the far back corner whispered towards them before a shadow darted across the single beam of light. Pip glanced between the doors and the corner. Which was worse? The Goliath rats that persued them or the or the silhouette growing taller in the corner…

Podkin slowly opened the window to the dragon cottage, looking around the room there was a bunch of cockroaches huddled in the corner, a small mouse entering through a gap in the wall and a wooden crate in the center of the room. He could smell the ashes of a unlit fire. Then, the crate began to shake and then a burst of fire cam through the gaps. Something  was moving alive in there. He tried getting back out the window but it was closed and locked. And then the crated banged open....
