I think you might be adding an image to the blog and not the padlet.  Make sure you are adding to the padlet screen not the comments box at the bottom of the blog page.  Apologies if i'm wrong.

Otherwise, on a laptop, make sure Num Lk is on so you can use the number pad. When you need an accented character, hold Alt down and type in 130 on the number pad, a é will appear in your text.
