Due to the financial implications of buying out Capel it is likely he will be back next season. With that said, do you think the AD makes him make changes to his staff? Any other changes you would suggest if Capel is back?

You also have to remember that some of Capel’s staff members have buyouts too — not nearly as large as his, but it makes wholesale changes tricky. That said, I do think some sort of staff adjustment is probably necessary if he’s back. My guess would be adding someone who can help with in-game adjustments, because that’s been a consistent struggle for the team. Capel’s had essentially the same staff for all eight seasons, with the exception of GM Jay Kuntz, so fresh perspectives could help. Beyond that, focusing on player development — especially shooting and decision-making — would probably be the most impactful change.

Any thoughts on Dabo Swinney's comments on Ole MIss tampering with a Clemson recruit? Do you think the NCAA makes changes to the NIL free -for-all that is currently occuring?

Dabo Swinney highlights how chaotic NIL recruiting has become. It’s basically the Wild West right now. The rules are so loose that schools can push the boundaries without many real consequences, which frustrates coaches and fans alike. As for the NCAA making changes, I’m skeptical that anything will have a huge immediate impact — it’s hard to put the toothpaste back in the tube. Once NIL deals are out there, you can’t just rewind the system and any meaningful reforms will take time to implement and enforce.

Is there any hope for Pitt football or hoops or are we stuck in mediocrity for all eternity?
Abby Schnable

There’s definitely hope. It just might not be immediate. Both football and hoops have struggled recently, but there are reasons to be optimistic. Pitt has talented players coming in, new staff like GM Jay Kuntz in basketball, and opportunities to leverage NIL and fundraising to strengthen the programs.

Success won’t happen overnight — it’s going to take smart recruiting, player development and some adjustments — but things aren’t hopeless. Mediocrity isn’t permanent if the right moves are made.
