Hi, can I also ask about Internship during summer? So when I finish my first year can I internship somewhere in US as a me student? Historically how many engineering students do that (CPT)?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir

Jacobian, you should be able to apply, but I don't know the number, as this is something that Graduate Admissions really doesn't track. Your specific program might, as well as the Engineering Career Services Office. You can contact the Senior Director, Jamie Grant, at Jamie00@seas.upenn.edu.

Hi Will, I have been admitted into Biotech program, similar question as Neha, is there any certificate or minor available for Biotech classes? Is it hard for students to take classes in Wharton?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:19
Charles, there are not currently certificates offered by the Biotech program, and we don't offer "minors," to master's students. You can apply for a dual degree if you'd like to have two degrees. As for taking courses at Wharton, it can vary based on the course as well as whether or not it will count as an elective; ultimately that is a discussion you'd have with your program.

Hi, I am admitted to MS CIS for fall 19. Can you tell me about RA/TA opportunities for first semester when we join.
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:20
Puneet, you cannot RA/TA as a first semester master's student, unless specifically asked to do so by your department. You normally have to wait until you've completed at least one semester in good academic standing, and then apply. These opportunities vary by program and by semester

Hi will! I have been admitted into the MSE in CIS program. It says that students in this programs are not given assistantships as ways to pay but I wanted to ask what the prospects were for students to do research in this program?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:21
Abhiraj, you do have opportunities to do research, but you will need to search them out, as the master's program is not a research-based program. But research opportunities can very much be found by you, talking with professors, your academic advisor and other faculty/staff.

I've been admitted to the chemical engineering MSE program. I wanted to ask about the tuition rate for the dual CIT master's program. Also, what is the acceptance rate for it?
cool 1
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:22
Amal, all tuition at Penn Engineering is based on a per-course model, so it is always dependent on how many courses you are taking. Here is the current course cost: https://gradadm.seas.upenn.edu/paying-for-your-education/
10:23
As for the acceptance rate, I don't know that, as you have to wait until you've completed at least one semester in good academic standing and then apply for a dual master's; this process isn't handled by Graduate Admissions, but by the individual program.

Hi, Will! I have been admitted to the MSE in CIS program. I was wondering if it's possible to view a summary of the cost of the program, and the amount of federal financial aid I would receive if I were to enroll? Or is this information not available until I officially accept the offer of admission?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:25
George, costs for all of our programs are based on how many courses you take, which you can find here: https://gradadm.seas.upenn.edu/paying-for-your-education/. Penn Engineering doesn't offer aid, so you'd need to file a FAFSA to find out about potential gov't aid you'd receive. This is entirely independent of the Graduate Admissions Office. You can find some other sources of potential funding here: http://www.cis.upenn.edu/prospective-students/graduate/aid.php

Hi,

Hi,
I've been admitted to the MSE in Data Science program as an international student. Wanted to know if we can complete the course in 3 semesters by taking 3,3 and 4 credits in 3 semesters?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:25
Shubham, I believe that you can, however as this program is graduating its first cohort this May, we have not had anyone do that at this time.
Varun
10:21
Hi Will! I have been admitted to MSE Robotics program. What are the opportunities and the requirements to pursue a dual masters program (like from Wharton)?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:27
Varun, you can find the process to apply for a dual master's program within Engineering, here: https://grad.seas.upenn.edu/student-handbook/academic-options/#2degree. Do do a dual master's with the 2nd master's outside of Engineering, you must apply separately to that program and, if admitted, you'll work with both programs to coordinator the courses and figure out what would count for both degrees.

Hi Will,
I have been admitted into the MSE for Robotics program.
Since the program has needs 10

Hi Ronit, can you resend your question?
Jingyu Tang

For chemical engineering MSE program, there are 10 courses that I need to take in order to graduate. However, my undergraduate degree is not in chemical engineering. On the the department website, it is said that I also need to take some basic undergraduate courses in Chemical engineering. So, how many additional courses I need to take and how long will it take(including additional courses)to graduate.
Abhiraj

For BioE, where do students end up working after graduation? How long did it take for them to find a job?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:28
Neha, I don't know the specific time length it takes, on avg, for a graduate to find a job, but you can find out specifically where many of them land positions by looking at the Career Survey information, available here: https://www.vpul.upenn.edu/careerservices/surveys.php#GradStudent. They find jobs literally all over the world.

Hi Will, do UPenn MS Robotics students get tuition waiver for a TA/RA posts? The information on website is unclear but it mentions 2 credit waiver per semester for academic staff.
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:30
Hi Guest, to my knowledge all TA/RA positions are hourly paid positions, unless you get it through a PhD program. The 2 credit waiver is not something I'm familiar with, unless that is meant for full-time employees. Can you send me the web link where you found this?
Abhiraj

I also wanted to ask if there were any ways of tuition funding that were available to international students since grants and scholarships seem to be open to non-international students only

Hi Will, I have been admitted to the MSE EE program. My specialization is Information and Decision systems. May I know who will be guiding me towards my choice  of subjects? Can I make a switch in the department, i.e move to MSE Robotics if I don't get the subjects that I wish for?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:32
Ranjani, you will be assigned an academic advisor by the program, so I don't know at this time. You can apply to transfer to the Robotics program (or any other program) after you've completed at least one semester in good academic standing.

Thank you! Another quick question: will I only receive a PennKey once I accept the offer of admission?

AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:32
George, yes you do have to accept the offer of admission before you can access resources that are for Penn students.

Hi Will,
I have been admitted into the MSE for Robotics program. I am excited to join but, I had a few questions about it before I confirm.

Since there are 10 courses I need to take to graduate. If I choose to do 3 courses over 4 semesters, can I take the extra 2 courses from any department of choice ?

Are we allowed to "Sit in" a
few lectures from other courses  ?

As I will be a part of SEAS, will I be allowed to be a member of labs from the School of Medicine?

Is there an option to switch from a MSE to a PhD after I enroll ?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:36
Ronit, it is ultimately up to you as to how you choose to structure your studies. You'd work with your department to do this, but yes, you could set it up to take 2 other courses from other programs/departments. Ultimately it would depend if those programs/departments allow non-program students to enroll in those courses. As for "sitting," in some lectures, this is decided by each professor; most have an open policy, but if you're planning on doing it for an entire semester, you'll need to clear it with the faculty. SEAS is not a part of the School of Medicine, so you would still need to apply and/or be invited to do research in a lab from the Med School.

Hi, Miranda! Will I only be able to apply to live in Sansom Place once I accept the offer of admission? If so, since the housing application process is first come first serve, is it in my best interest to accept my offer as soon as possible?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:36
George, Miranda has replied to you further down.
Jacobian

Hi Will, can you talk about ad number and enrollment number for me and robotics student last year?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:37
Jacobian, last year the Robotics program had 543 applicants and 43 people started the program in the fall.
