But while you're waiting for the game to start, the queue is open, and here are some previews.
First, our predictions. I came pretty close to losing my predicted World Series champion last night:

Third, ZiPS is now doing playoff projections; I can only assume I have to be the adult in the room because Dan is in another room controlling all of baseball:

Who are you rooting for?

Rays (57.5% | 65 votes)

A's (42.5% | 48 votes)

Total Votes: 113
Who do you think will win?

Rays (66.1% | 74 votes)

A's (33.9% | 38 votes)

Total Votes: 112
A few polls, as is customary. And with that, I'll let the queue fill up for a bit.

Please bear with me, as this is my first time using JotCast- so if there are any screwups, it's at least partially because I'm trying to learn how these dang internets work.

A reminder that there is a nerdcast today on ESPN2

One quick comment, actually, because this is a good point: I'm going to be watching the alternate broadcast mostly. Last year's was great.

Whenever there is a statcast version, it's always the best option.  They do such a great job

Ben's the adult in the room and I am here for your daily dose of terrible puns.

Agreed. There were a few miscues the very first time they tried this -- I seem to remember the camera mainly focusing on talking heads in the studio and less on the game -- but it's the kind of baseball commentary that I want. I admit that I'm a very particular audience but it's great that they have a broadcast for me.

Annual gripe that the we can't watch the playoffs on MLB.tv.  When, if ever, do you think that will change?
Ben Clemens
8:02
Sadly I don't think this will ever change. There's a lot of value in having exclusive broadcast rights to nationally exciting broadcasts.
Audrey Stark
8:03
I agree with Ben.

MLB.tv works well in the regular season because, say, Tigers games don't exactly have a huge viewership outside of the Detroit area, so it's easier for RSN's to give up exclusivity as long as they can get the blackout restrictions.
But the postseason is a national affair, so selling exclusivity is much more valuable there.
8:05
I'm hoping that RSN's will team up in some way with MLB.tv to allow in-market streaming, because that's a really frustrating thing to pay for an all-access pass and randomly not get things, but that's outside of my wheelhouse. Postseason I can't really see happening though.
Audrey Stark
8:06
Exactly, it's far more profitable. Though they should definitely find a way to compromise and end in-season blackouts. I will give them props for including the At Bat app in the price.

You once wrote that Tommy Pham is the poor man’s Mike Trout. Or at least I think that was you. Anyway, what do you think is the most likely way he impacts this game? Bat/Power/Speed/Range etc.etc.

That was me indeed. Range seems unlikely, as he's starting at DH, so I'll say with his batting eye. He's so, so good at avoiding junk and Manaea is prone to occasional bouts of wildness.

Hello Ben and Audrey! How are you doing tonight?

It’s time to get Sean Manaea-ical.
Audrey Stark

Hi, Dan! I'm excited! Disappointed to see Stephen Piscotty was left off the As roster. But I think this is going to be a really fun game to watch.

One thing I have never figured out: why and when did Sean Manaea suddenly stop going by Seth Manaea?
Ben Clemens

I'm doing great. I did the most important thing I could do today, which is tire my dog out so that she won't get too rowdy during the game.

It's been a rough year for Stevie Fishes.
Casual leadoff homers!

Damn rally killing homers! Without that homer they might be scoring a run!
