Alexandros, well, we would need the document to confirm the type of program in which you are enrolled. But as you said, you haven't earned the degree yet so there is nothing else it would need to contain.

In my country, typically we use our father's name as the middle name. Hence, usually, we write

First Name: Aniruddha
Middle Name: Sanjay
Last Name: Humane

However, Name on my passport is as follows

Surname: Humane
Given Name: Aniruddha Sanjay

Name on my GRE Scorecard:
Aniruddha  S Humane

Name on my TOEFL Scorecard:
Humane, Aniruddha Sanjay

Hence, My question is, how do I put my name in the application?
Please let me know what should be entered in the following fields

First Name:
Middle Name:
Last Name:

Ani, we recommend using the same method you use on your passport, especially if you have used two different methods for the GRE and TOEFL.

Thank you, Will. My GRE and TOEFL scorecard have different names because while filling the GRE form, only the middle initial was asked, while in the TOEFL application, Full Middle name was asked. However, I will enter my name as it is on my passport.

HI Dr. Fenton,

Hello, Anon.
Anon

I have a couple of questions regarding the BE phd application. I tried sending one of my letters of recommendations using Interfolio but it failed due to the form asking for additional questions. However, the application status shows the letter being in progress. Will the letter be available for review even though Interfolio wasn't able to complete all questions? I have already asked the professor to upload the letter themselves.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:09
Anon, we are sorry about that issue. You can also have interfolio send the letter to admissions1@seas.upenn.edu.

Thank you for your help! For personal statements, how in depth should our discussion of prior research experiences be?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:24
Anon, they can be as in depth as you believe they need to be. We recommend you use these questions to help craft your statement: 1) Why are you interested in the program? 2) What have you done that makes you a great candidate? 3) What do you hope to do when you are in the program? 4) What will you do/accomplish once you have completed the program?

I have a question about the "Employment" section. Should I list paid research experiences as employment, or is it intended for jobs at a company?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
11:42
Hi Guest, were an employee, or paid for participating in research studies?

Specifically paid as a researcher working for a professor

You should list that as an employment.

Hi, I submitted by application and it says Awaiting materials for GRE and TOEFL. But I submitted my GRE scores a couple of weeks ago and I believe I am exempt from TOEFL because I'm completing a 4 year degree in US. How can I make sure it gets marked as complete?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
11:54
Hi Anon, it can take 48-72 hours to match test scores. In addition, we manually review application materials to waiver TOEFL scores. It may take a few days to review them based on the volume of applications we receive.

Hi, Will! I was wondering if there is a way to check whether Penn has my GRE scores already? I'm currently a Penn undergrad and am *pretty* sure when I took the exam I requested for the scores to be sent here since it was free. On my ETS account though, for Penn it says "Not Reported - Institution does not accept GRE scores." I wasn't sure if this was because I sent them using the old 2926 code?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
11:57
Hi Guest, that's odd - if they were sent to Penn, ETS should have that on your record with them. Unfortunately, we are unable to check unless you have submitted an application.

I have submitted all the other components of my application already. Would you recommend resending my scores to the new institution code?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
12:09
No, you do not need to do so. We will be able to link your scores to your application.

Hi, I am wondering if it is possible to submit an application for the Bioengineering PhD program but also the PREP program at UPenn of if you have to choose between one or the other.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
12:38
Yes, you should be able to do so. However, you'll need to submit one application before you can begin your second.

Got it, thanks! I also wanted to ask if there are any formatting guidelines for the personal statement? Is there also anything specific we should be addressing?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
12:50
Guest, yes, we do actually have "guiding questions." Why are you interested in the program?
What have you done that makes you a great candidate?
How will you benefit from the program?
Why will you succeed in the program?
What will you do/accomplish once you have completed the program?

Folks, we are just about finished for the chat. Do you have any final questions?
Guest
12:59
Great, thank you Will! I have one final question. Is there a specific process to obtaining a fee waiver? I am part of a diversity program in my school so in most of my applications, this was sufficient to receive a fee waiver.

Guest, you would need to email our Assoc Dir, Christina Burton, at chburton@seas.upenn.edu.
