I took GRE on DEC.3rd and had a new GRE score, but the score is not available now. It will be out before this Friday. Is it too late to resubmit the GRE score?

Hi guest, what program did you apply to? As long as you took the GRE before the application deadline you should be fine.

Hi Will,
I have applied to the PhD program in CIS department. I wanted to know whether UPenn conducts interviews for admission? If yes, when are they typically conducted?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:26
Hi guest - this depends on the program and faculty member. Some do conduct interviews and some don't. We don't have a formal interview process at the moment.

Good morning Will! Is GPA the most import factor to the admission decision? And how does the committee consider grades from different regions, e.g. 10 scale in India, 100 scale in China and 4 scale in the US, will the committee recalculate it and transform it into scale 4?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:28
Hi Martin. Our reviewers take a holistic approach to the review process, so they look at all aspects of the application, not just GPA or GRE scores. As for the scale difference - our faculty are usually aware of this, as there are many scales used outside of the US.

Hi Will,

I had completed the application for MSE Data Science before the early deadline (Nov 15, 2019). However, I sent the official test scores (GRE and IELTS) only a week back. Hence, the application status is shown to be "Materials Needed". Will my application be processed along with in the early decision category?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist

Hi Justin, on your checklist when you log in it should tell you if you qualified for the Early Decision Review. We don't need the official scores to start that review, just the unofficial scores on your application.

I have applied to data science program for early application. I would like to ask that do you have any information about the average GPA and GRE score for the past admitted students?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:29
Hi Keyang, we do not have that information for the Data Science program. However, we do have it for other CIS programs, and you can find it here: https://www.cis.upenn.edu/graduate/how-to-apply/admissions-statistics/

Hi Will, I have a question regarding GRE scores. I have done my Master's at Drexel University and I already took GRE and Toefl exams. Unfortunately, I realized my GRE scores are expired. Do I have to retake GRE exam or since I already had it for my Masters that can be waived?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:31
Hi Yasi, I'm sorry that your GRE scores are expired. We do require valid GRE scores for all applicants. You'd need to request that the department to which you applied waive the GRE score requirement. You can send that email to gradstudies@seas.upenn.edu. It is very rare that any program will waive the GRE requirement.

Is it true that Electrical Eng. Masters program won't be considered for early decision review?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:32
Parth, you can see the deadlines on our webpage here: https://gradadm.seas.upenn.edu/how-to-apply/ . They do not have an early deadline.

Hi Will,

Is every Ph.D student funded from the school?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:33
Hi Su Yeon. Yes, all admitted PhD students are funded, unless the student tells us that they are self-funded.

Thanks for your answer! And I would like to know if diversity is a consideration in the admission process and if yes, then in which way will it be considered, e.g. gender, origin of country?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:33
Martin, I do know that we do consider diversity as a factor, but I can't say specifically how this is considered.

Hello Will,
In the mail sent earlier, it was stated that the PhD application decisions are sent out on a rolling basis. By when can we expect the first set of decisions to be made? Also, by when will all (last set) the decisions be made?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:34
Siddharth, I believe that PhD decisions will start going out after the winter break. We do our best to send out all PhD decision prior to the April 15 deadline.

Thanks Will, the website shows information about GRE score. Do you know where to find information about average GPA?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:35
Keyang, I'm sorry, but that is the only info we have available at the moment. Each department chooses whether or not to share that kind of information.

Thanks for the information Will. What is the number of students applying to electrical engineering Masters and the acceptance rate for it on an average?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:35
Parth, we had approximately 693 applicants last year and admitted approximately 45%.
