Good day, all. My name is Will Fenton and I'm the Assistant Director of Graduate Admissions at Penn Engineering. I'm here to answer questions you may have about our Graduate Programs, life as a graduate student at Penn and living in Philadelphia.
We do apologize for having to cancel the chat on Wednesday due to technical issues with our Chat client.

Hi Will, I had a question about my application to MSE in Data science.
I wanted to know whether "application ready for early decision review" means that it is now under review?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist

Hi Oscar. Yes, it does mean that. You should receive a decision on either Jan 15 or Feb 15.

Hi Will, nice to meet you, my name is Viola. I have submitted my application for early application, but I just took another GRE test on 11/22 and received a better score, can I submit my new  score to Penn?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:02
HI Viola, yes you can. However, please note that if your application is already under review, we can't guarantee that the new scores will be considered.

Hi Will, I have applied MSE in Data Science. May I know roughly how many applicants applied for the first round?

Hi Will, I am wondeing how to waive my test score transcript? Since I still got the official email about submitting my test scores while I am qualified to waive it.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:04
Yi, do you mean the English Proficiency requirement? If you've submitted your application, there's nothing you have to do. We will waive it once your application has been reviewed by our enrollment specialists.

Hi Will, I have one question about the decision date. If I applied for round on Nov.15, will I get the decision exactly on the date, or is it possible to get a decision before that date?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:05
Lexi, if you qualified for the Early Decision round, you'll receive it on either Jan 15 or Feb 15.

Jenberu, it depends on the program to which you applied. You can find the decision release dates here: https://gradadm.seas.upenn.edu/how-to-apply/

Hi Will, I have applied the MSE program in Data Science. I would like to know if I get a better Toefl score, can I update my Toefl score after I send the applicantion.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:06
Hi Guest. You can send it to us, and you can email admissions2@seas.upenn.edu with your unofficial scores, but if your application is already under review there is no guarantee that the new scores will be considered.

Thank you, should I also send Penn admission an email after I submitted my new GRE score?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:07
Viola, yes, you can. To which program did you apply?
Srishti
10:05
Hi Will, thank you for rescheduling the chat and for your time. I have a question about the decision date - according to the Penn Engineering mentions that Nov 15 applicants will hear back on Jan 15 or Feb 15. However, the data science admissions FAQs says that the decisions will be released within 4-6 weeks of submission. Which of them should I assume will apply to me if I applied for MS Data Science on Nov 15th?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:07
Srishti, that Data Science FAQ is incorrect. We changed that policy two years ago. I'll let them know it needs to be updated. Thanks for letting us know.

How important are GRE score marks for the application? If my scores are in the range of 300-315 ( but otherwise have a good profile ), will that be a problem for my application?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:08
Oscar, we use a holistic review process, meaning that the entire application is considered, so this is just one part that will be looked at in the overall application review.
Lexi
10:06
Thanks! So I will not get any decision on like Jan 12th, right ?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:08
Lexi, that is correct, you will not get a decision on that date.
Yi
10:06
Yeah it is English Proficiency requirement, so it does not matter whether I still got the official email asking about the submission right?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:09
Yi, yes that is correct, assuming that you do meet our standards to have it waived.
Kunal

Hi, Will. I have a question. I have applied on Nov 15th, and I still can have one article by January. The mail tells me the decision will be made on either Jan 15th or Feb 15th, so when will it stop checking publications before final decision is made? I'm afraid my article won't work.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:10
Kunal, if your application was received for the early review period, then the application is under review now. An article publication in January would most likely not be considered at this time.
