Hi Will, I am an applicant for ChBE in the current admission cycle. I recently got a new publication (Feb 2019) and as a result I would like to submit a new Resume in my application package. Will it be possible for me to do that now. I have tried and contact my department but they have not yet responded to my emails?

Saumye, you can send an updated resume to admissions2@seas.upenn.edu

Good morning Will! Thank you for hosting this chat. I really appreciate it! I have a few questions I am hoping you can answer.

Firstly, I have applied for an M.S. in Robotics. As an undergrad at Georgia Tech, I also pursued a minor in Economics and would like to continue this at Penn. Will I have the opportunity to do so?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:11
Anviksha, I can't promise that, as you'd have to see if you can take these courses as an elective, or as a non-wharton grad student and then it will depend if the courses have space for non-wharton grad students.

Hi Will, I have not received a decision for my PhD application and understand that this application will not be consider for an MS program. I am interested in MS programs with a March 15 application deadline, but I would not want to pay for the application and associated support material if a decision is reached. Do you have any advice regarding this application timing issue?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:12
James, the only advice I have is to submit a second application. You don't have to pay to have your test scores sent again, so the only fee you'd need to pay would be the application fee.
Emmanuel
10:12
Are there waiting lists for the PhD programs, or is the rolling basis of admission to the PhD program they way it's done?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:12
Emmanuel, there is no waitinglist for the PhD programs. All decisions are released on a rolling basis.

I have a follow up question on the Admissions process. I have applied to the OMCIT and already have an MBA. Do you believe this will help me with the Admissions team at all? Is this typical of applicants for the OMCIT to already have another Masters?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:13
Lisset, we don't really have a "typical," OMCIT applicant at this point. But I think that will be fine. We have had quite a few applicants that have similar qualifications.
Mauricio
10:13
Hi Will, how many acceptances are you guys doing for fall 2019 for MCIT Online?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:13
Mauricio, I don't know at this time, as the 2nd deadline isn't until May, so we won't really know until after the deadline.
Theja Shree

Thanks for the confirmation Will.

Theja, you're welcome.

Hi Will,

I'm curious when the deadline is for decisions from admissions to MEAM PhD? I understand there's a visit day in March so decisions should come prior, right?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:14
As I've mentioned, we don't have a specific decision deadline - decisions are released on a rolling basis.
Vipul Rathore
10:14
Ok. So in rolling basis, does it necessarily mean that if I applied late (let's say 15th december), then I will have disadvantage over those who applied early? Or will my application be reviewed properly in any case whatsoever?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:15
Vipul, nope - application review didn't start in earnest until after the application deadline.
Ppulyala
10:15
yes PhD in bio medical engineering program
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:16
Ppulyala, again, we don't have a specific Biomedical Engineering program - we have a Bioengineering program that does have different concentrations, including in the biomedical field. To your question, yes we have sent out interview invites at this time. But more may be going out, as these are handled directly by the department.
Christian
10:16
Hi Will - which date do you approximate to be the last to receive a PhD BE offer of admission?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:16
Christian, I don't have a "last date." Sorry.

Is there anywhere to view placement statistics for the various programs?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:16
Guest, do you mean admitted statistics, or job/career stats? You can view those here: https://www.vpul.upenn.edu/careerservices/surveys.php#GradStudent
Sean
10:16
did you sent out any notification for electrical engineering?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:17
Sean, do you mean PhD or MSE? If you mean MSE, we haven't sent any out yet - the first decisions will be sent out March 8, then March 22, and finally April 5
Sean
10:17
Hello, the IPD program Page states that "first round decisions will be released after March 1st" does this refer to decisions being released in waves or to a second round of the application process, such as personal interviews?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:18
Sean, I'm sorry, but that is incorrect. Is that on the IPD webpage? I'll speak to them about correcting that. Decisions will be released on March 8, 22 and April 5. And we don't normally do personal interviews for the program.

Thank you Will. I appreciate your help.

Would I be refunded for the MS application if I was accepted to the PhD program?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:19
James, no you would not. We don't offer application refunds.
Mauricio
10:19
Will Thanks, when someone is not admitted for a cohort, would you encourage the same individual to apply for a future cohort? MCIT online.
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:20
Mauricio, I'd first suggest they look at what's changed between the first time they applied and the next time they plan to apply. If they haven't improved any facet of their application, I would ask them to consider why the'd think they'd have a better chance of being admitted if nothing has changed from the first time they applied?

Lisset

For the OMCIT the early decisions should come back April 15th, I believe. Are they all released at once or is it possible to see a decision come in before then?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:20
Lisset, they are all released on April 15.
