Happy Opening Week! Tons to get to, looking forward to the next hour or so.
12:02
Reminder on questions ... please provide some context and/or player choices to rank/evaluate. Open-ended questions (Give me 3 sleepers?) will be passed on as long as I have specific questions in the queue. Specifics help us all! So let's go!

Real or noise:  Several NL players coming off of terrible seasons have been making positive strides this spring.  For each of the 4, are you buying the improved outlook or thinking its just noise.  Pitchers Luzardo and Keller, Hitters Hiura ans Senzel
Brent Hershey
12:06
In general, good buying spots exist with these types. Ranking in terms of confidence:
Luzardo - pedigree and uniqueness of arsenal (hard-throwing LH SP
Hiura - positive power metrics over past couple seasons despite outward stats; some real-life struggles in 2021
Keller - velo jump is huge; still want to see him succeed at MLB level; new SL could be just as key as FB
Senzel - kind of his own category b/c his past is all injury. If healthy, I believe it .. but not as confident he can do that given his past

What’s the straight scoop on Lance McCullers?
Brent Hershey
12:07
I'm letting others take that chance of a good 2H given his injury history. At this point I'm skeptical he's a fantasy asset in 2022

I'm loaded in OF and need help in the IF. How fair is my offer of Kyle Tucker and Jack Flaherty for his Wander Franco and Spencer Torkelson? 14 team, 22 keepers (forever). I won the league last year and am getting better quick.
Brent Hershey
12:10
Objectively, not fair at all in a dynasty; just shooting straight here. Tucker a fine start; but if I had Wander/Tork, a multi-year injured Flaherty would not interest me in the least. Gotta give to get 2 top dynasty youngsters

Afternoon Brett-Always look forward to Monday at noon! I'm in a 5x5 AL and had our draft this past weekend. We use a season long daily FAAB system (no waiver wire) and bid to replace IR players with a minimum bid of $3. I need to replace Jake Meyers and Austin Meadows (maybe). These are the players available-looking to see how you rank them until my guys get back-Niko Goodrum, Taylor Ward, Frenchy Cordero, Steven Kwan and Sheldon Neuse.
Brent Hershey
12:13
Frenchy an easy 5th; is he even making BOS roster? Top of my head, I'd probably rank them Kwan/Nuese/Goodrum/Ward, but it should be entirely on who you think will get the most AB. Gotta think Kwan will get an OF shot in CLE, and Nuese is a flex piece that will likely get PT in OAK. Only leagues are fun! GL!

AL only, 11 teams, 5X5 W,H,ERA,K, S, $260 budget, 11 keepers.   Would you trade a $15 Bieber for a $6 J.Polanco?  I also have Ray and Verlander as SP and an open 2B position to fill at the draft.  Bieber and Polanco are both in their last keepable year.
Brent Hershey
12:15
Yes, I'd do that as I'm a bit skeptical of Beiber at this point with the injury, and the diff in $ and your other positional options seal it. Lock it up!

12 NL only 4x4. Two questions : #1 End game stolen bases, Greg Allen, Strange-Gordon, Quinn, missing any one? #2 Keep Clevinger and Marquez for $10 each or go all in for Manaea who will likely go $25 in our league?
Brent Hershey
12:17
1) Allen
2) Probably shift to Manaea, though that's a steep price so this one's close. Could go either way, depending on your other keepers/budget, etc. Could see where taking the inj chance on Clev and COL chance on Marquez might be better given the only-league setup

Hi Brent. I've been offered Brujan for Stott in a Dynasty league. Categories are Hits, HR, RBI, Runs, SB, extra base hits, and OPS. What's your opinion? Much thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:21
Hmmm ... I'd probably reject, b/c of playing time considerations. When Stott is up, I think he'll play every day, either at 3B (if he makes team this week) or a SS (likely later this season). Brujan's fantasy ceiling might be higher b/c of the SB upside, but it's the Rays. Could see them mixing/matching him for fewer AB than Stott year over year, never really just out-and-out giving him a 500 PA season. Brujan gets moved to a team that just plays him every day? Give me that. But right now, I lean Stott

General question about impacts of players switching leagues. I'm in AL-only league, and Story, Baez, Gausman, others, have come over from the NL. Years ago, there used to be differences between the leagues that led to some under-performance when players switched leagues. Is that still the case? If so, any league-switchers we should be concerned about? Thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:25
Feel like the issue of underperformance is higher on the batter side than the hitter side for league-switchers. Not 100%, but see Lindor's 2021; that's the possibility. I think pitchers have the advantage on facing new opponents. Also, with DH in both leagues, we'll likely find little differences there on P switching leagues. Hope that helps.

Who in O’s pen  to close. Nats to. Close? Cubs to close?
Brent Hershey
12:28
Guesses here (that's all there is):
O's: Tate or Lopez? Really wide open
Nats: Still think Rainey, but also wide open
Cubs: Givens or Robertson
Really just dart-throwing right now; when someone new pops out of the pen in the 9th for each of these teams over the weekend ... well, get your FAAB $ ready

Any young starters or relievers worthy of a $1 or $2 flyer at the end of a 10-team AL keeper-league auction draft?
Also, speaking of young starters, and later in an auction, how much would you budget for Brash?  Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:31
I've rostered Wacha, Bubic, Lynch, Sp Howard a bunch so far -- those might fit that bill. I put a few modest bids in for Brash so far; not the type I break the bank for now though very interested to watch him again MLB competition for sure

Hi Brent, could use some help in my points league. On offense, need to drop one of:

CJ Abrams
CJ Cron
Bobby Dalbec

Need to drop one of the following starters too:

Eflin
Taillon
Ashby

Appreciate any help!
Brent Hershey
12:33
First trio ... I'd probably lean veterans over rookies, so Abrams drop for me (unless the points is heavily skewed towards SB for some reason). Pitchers: Ashby; think the other two are for-sure SP where Ashby's current role seems a bit muddier

I'm in a 12 team, 7x7 (with batter strikeouts) H2H league and Witt, Abrams, and Cruz SS prospects claimed.  How would you rank the next tier of SS (Noelvi Marte, Anthony Volpe, Marco Luciano)? Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:34
Volpe, Marte, Luciano the clear order for me

12:35
12-team H2H straight points league and have pick 10/12 - Devers\Alvarez or Tucker\Albies? SB's are not a premium and valued the same as RBI and runs.
Brent Hershey
12:35
Devers/Alvarez in this case. What a fun duo that will be

Drafting tonight- any cause for concern about ohtani as a first rounder?  You guys project him for only $22 as a hitter- seemingly way lower than most of the other hitters projected to go that high.
Brent Hershey
12:42
Our PA projection is less than others, which likely accounts for the difference. Personally for me, there's some inherent extra injury risk b/c of the two-way nature of his game. And, from a roster construction standpoint, I find that I'd rather not clog that UT slot up right from round one so I've ended up mostly passing on him when I have the chance to draft. Again, personal bias and maybe that's just me in my own headspace. Your mileage may vary -- and he's a total blast to have on your roster. Good luck tonight!

Hit hard by early injuries to Lynn, Clevinger in 10-team H2H category. Who would you prefer to fill in, Ober or Megill? Why?
Brent Hershey
12:44
Like them both in that range of we've seen partial seasons and good skills. I'd probably lean Ober, though, b/c he's been in MIN's plans from the start; if deG / Max where healthy, Megill likely wouldn't be part of the starting 5 to begin the season. He is now ... and perhaps he makes it stick all year -- but if I had to pick between the two right now, I'd go Ober.

Do you think Wendel steals more than expected playing time from Miguel Rojas or Brian Anderson in Miami?  Or is he just a utility guy filling in everywhere?
Brent Hershey
12:46
Been watching those spring boxes and have noticed more PT for Wendle than I expected. Seems to me he could well start at 3B most days, which is a great start to full-time AB given his versatility in the IF. Team has said Anderson will play some OF and has already. Wendle is a great early-season call for those paying attention, methinks.

Al only marsh at $7 or a Rosario at $15?    Thank you
Brent Hershey
12:47
Probably Marsh, given the $ you save, but that's also a nice price for Amed. Big Marsh fan though and glad to see the Halos clear the spot for him.

Always helpful to have this chat. Weekly league using OBP - who would you start more often: Dalbec or Candelario?
Brent Hershey
12:51
Ooo, good question. I believe in Dalbec's 2H improved contact rate more than some of the projections out there do. Was .335 OBP in 2H with a huge power bump, and that's what would make me start out the season playing him over Candelario. But I'd keep an eye on it; CandyMan is a draft fave of mine, who also improved, will be better w/ the lineup around him, hit a ton of doubles last year that would well morph into HR this year. But doesn't have the monster power potential of Dalbec.

jordan hicks u think cardinals pull a cardinal move n see hicks closing soon or opening day?
Brent Hershey
12:54
I mean, was considering this myself this morning. Who would be surprised if this happened come this weekend? Like, no one who has paid attention to that StL bullpen recently. The one thing that's important -- def get the feel that the new manager is more matchups/analytically driven than Shildt (and in line with the front office). So would not surprise to have the Cards go the way of the Reds/Rays/M's etc and spread em around. If I'm grabbing Hicks, it's for 10-15 saves throughout the year, not like he's going to be a lock-down 30-save guy. At this point in time, anyway
