OK, sorry for confusion! Let's get to it today ..

Hi Brent-- Could you rank ROS and for next year McCreevey, Wentz, Waldrep, Mattson and O'Brien? can play for wins or saves. Thanks. Do you like any of them a lot?
12:08
ROS - McGreevy, Waldrep, Mattson, O'Brien, Wentz
12:09
Long-term: Waldrep, McGreevy, Mattson, Wentz, O'Brien. Not convinced of Wentz's short-term success as of yet.

Thanks for this, as ever Brent. AL ONLY, saves/holds league. What's up with Yariel Rodriguez? He was dropped and I was excited to bid on him, but after review he is slumping hard. Impossible question: do you think he will come around and retain role for ROS and be a valuable saves/holds guy ROS?
Brent Hershey
12:11
Yeah had some hopes myself earlier in the year. Relievers so volatile; with Hoffman's walk implosion yesterday maybe Yariel is worth keeping around? Wish for more consistency, though. You may not have better options in an AL-only.

NL-only, 12-team, dynasty. I'm sniffing 4th place. Trying to get the most out of my remaining free agent budget, with an eye toward 2026. Decent bet that Kyle Karros can claim and hold 3B? Can he earn reps at 1B, too, or will that be Condon's?
Brent Hershey
12:15
Need to see more from Karros; the fact that he's more of a hit-tool than slugger guy is part of the equation. That, and the fact that Rockies just don't have a track record with young players like this. Condon also has warts, but seemingly more impact. I'd place my bets there between the two.

hi Brent, thank you for answering my question. #1 Which 5 outfielders would you play this week among: acuna, langford, butler, j sanchez, pham, castellanos, frelick? #2 Which 1 hitter would you use this week among the 2 rejected from those outfielders and polanco and burger? #3 which do you prefer for ROS higashioka and amaya? #4 Waldrep against cleveland or play if safe with vest not being the closer in detroit?
Brent Hershey
12:17
  1. I'd sit Acuna and Pham
  2. Burger
  3. Higgy, slightly
  4. Waldrep
Beano

NL 10 team 5x5.

  1. I failed to land Marsee last week but got Locklear. Do I want him though? I'm not sure about his numbers ROS or in 2026.
  2. Tonight, I have a chance to land Karros and/or Adrian Del Castillo. My first waive choice is Nat Lowe, who is awful. Do I want Karros more that ADC?? If I get both, should I waive Locklear as well - or keep him?
  3. Is H Waldrep a pitcher we want ROS/2026?
  4. Ben Brown is going to start Tuesday night - a risk or a must play?
Brent Hershey
12:22
  1. Rough week for Locklear for sure; think you just have to play in an NL-only for now and see if he can adjust
  2. I'd want ADC. Slight pref of Locklear over Karros
  3. Likely he gets innings given that staff. Liked him a ton coming into last year; made some changes, so maybe? Def feel like he's a better 2026 play, but realize you need to roster him now
  4. Brown is still risk/reward for me. Don't love it @TOR

Hi Brent, thanks for the chat! Andrew Vaughn got a nice write-up today, but BHQ projects a 31 BPV for rest of season. Drop Laureano for Vaughn in a shallow league? How do I square the projected BPV with positive analytics?
Brent Hershey
12:24
Feel those two are about even. Gotta love those MIL vibes, though. I'm factoring in SOME of those things at this point in the year ... IE, regression isn't BOUND to happen with just 7 weeks left. The wave might last that long.

Good morning, Brent!

Getting down to the home stretch on the regular season – in a redraft 12 team H2H points league and looking at some position battles on my team this week and ROS. Please rank if you do not mind

2B – Westberg vs Keaschall
OF/DH (need to pick 3 from this group) – Beck, Laureano, Happ, I Collins (left over from Westberg vs Keaschall)

Thank you so much!
Brent Hershey
12:26
Love Keaschall, but Westburg's done it before
Laureano, Collins, Keaschall. Beck is a great play at home; not sure I trust in a 12 when he's on the road.

Hi Brent. Please rate the following SP ROS in a standard 5X5 league: Darvish, Pfaadt, Matthews, Paddack, Cantillo, Cavalli. Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:27
Matthews, Pfaadt, Darvish, Cavalli, Paddack, Cantillo. Cavalli has the best chance to pop, though.

Hi Brent,

16 team H2H points league. $430 cap, 40 player roster - 23 active & 17 bench. Deep league. We start 5 SPs.

While our league's trading deadline has passed, it will open at the end of MLB's reglar season. My 1B/CI positions have been a soft part of my lineup (Bell & Goldschmidt). I've acquired Wilson Contreras for 26 already, and have a trade in the works - swapping Yainer Diaz for Manzardo. There are a few bits added but that's the essence of the deal. I have Wm Contreras at C (1 C league) and can promote Edgar Quero from my minor roster as backup. Salaries are not an issue.

I do hate to lose Diaz, and am a little concerned about Manzardo's platoon splits.

Your thoughts/opinion?

Thanks again for answering my question.
Brent Hershey
12:29
Think that makes sense. The fact that Manzardo is playing better in his role for now, could mean they expand it (full-timer) down the line. pop is there, sounds like you have backup options. I think I'd do it.

I see that some sabermetricians say that xERA is not a good predictor of future ERA either midseason or from year to year.  What are the best predictors of future ERA?
Brent Hershey
12:32
Nothing is perfect, of course, but K-BB% is probably the safest; most known to correlate with good ERAs. I use xERA more to validate/invalidate ERA to date. So ... can use that marginally to project forward, depending on the time of the year. But pitcher's are always changing/tweaking, always in motion. It's what makes ERA projections so tough.

Hey Brent, need to keep 2 of the following ROS: Polanco SEA, Horwitz PIT, Ozuna ATL, Correa HOU, Ortiz MIL, Reynolds PIT, Lee SF. Which 2 would you choose for overall offensive skill? Thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:34
Correa and Reynolds or Lee

Hi Brent, do you have a favorite volume reliever or two for ratio relief?
Brent Hershey
12:34
Uribe and Detmers

4x4 al-only with ks instead of whip.  Please rank the following for the rest of the season: (1) Brooks Baldwin, Toro, Ryan McMahon; and (2) Logan Allen and Michael Lorenzen.  Thanks for doing these chats!
Brent Hershey
12:35
  1. McMahon, Baldwin, Toro
  2. Logan Allen

I see Quintana is rated 0.0 for his start against PIT today at home.  Why would he be rated so low, is PIT good against LHP on the road or something?  Should I avoid him this week given the possibility that he will also have a second start @CIN?
Brent Hershey
12:42
Low K rate, bad WHIP, xERA a full run higher than ERA. That said, PIT is one of the worst right now vLHP. This time of year, sometime the 2-step is worth the risk.

For 2026. The better 1B target: Arraez ($19) or Christian Walker ($23)
Brent Hershey
12:45
Was about to say Christian Walker, as he eliminates the need for all the mental gymnastics you have to do by rostering a 1B with Arraez's unique skill set. But ... in a points league maybe Arraez's lack of power isn't such a big deal. So yeah, I'd slightly lean Arraez.

OK here goes 4x4 AL only ros closers? Maton, bednar, whitlock,
fisher. I know long shots in her but your thoughts please? thank you
Brent Hershey
12:50
Maton and Bednar on a different level than Whitlock and Fisher (I prefer Whitlock of that duo). I'd take the Bendar shot first—he's done it before, on a positive roll, in a situation that should produce tons of opportunities. To me, Maton seems to have that job right now, but we've not seen him come through just yet. Stuff and numbers look good—and the one positive is that if he succeeds, Bochy is not going to play matchup games with him—but he's more of an unknown.

Hi Brent. I've been holding on to Zack Gelof in 15-team OPS league. Thought he'd be back up by now. Keep holding or find another MI bench option? Slim pickings include Romy Gonzalez, Brayan Rocchio, Curtis Mead, Blaze Alexander and Brooks Baldwin. Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:51
I think you look elsewhere at this point. Baldwin/Rocchio would be my faves, though curious how CHW is giving Mead a chance.

AL only. CJavier or L.Garcia (Hou SP) ROS? or neither?

AL only, Saves/Holds. Please rank CFerguson, THill, KAkin ROS?

AL only. It seems like BHQ thinks RBergert will implode at any time. You agree? And that he will be dropped from rotation when Lorenzen returns?
Brent Hershey
12:54
  1. Probably Javier, but know that often these first couple outings are rough. Garcia also worth it; I just like Javier's stuff a bit more.
  2. Akin / Ferguson / Hill
  3. I'm skeptical of Bergert, yes. OK with KC taking a shot here, but not running out to roster in fantasy. And yes, barring any other injuries, I think he's just there temporarily until Lorenzen returns

Mornin’, Brent!

I’m in a 12 team dynasty H2H league with the following categories: AVG/OBP/SLG/R/RBI/SB

My 2B has been a huge disappointment with Mookie and Holliday.

I have Chandler Simpson as an extra OF that I only start on occasion/as needed. Will I regret trading him for Xavier Edwards for the stretch run/playoffs?

Thanks so much!
Brent Hershey
12:57
If you're only starting Simpson occasionally, you must be OK in weekly steals ... so in that case yes this trade makes sense. If, though, you'd consider Simpson's speed explosion a week-changer in your playoff, then maybe not. (I don't consider Holliday a huge disappointment, for instance; but that could just be me.)
