Happy Chat Monday! Lotsa questions at the ready; room for more if you're joining us in real-time; will do what I can to get to them all. Quick plug for First Pitch Arizona; second discount deadline is this Friday ... get to making those plans and joining us! Fun stuff all weekend there. Onto the Qs!
Bob

Do you think Kyle Tucker will be back this year/
Brent Hershey
12:03
Yes, partially b/c they will want Tucker for the playoffs. With that in mind, it's probably September sometime (best I can do) for his return. (A couple of my teams could use him, too!)

Hi Brent. 12-team, 5X5 H2H league. Whom do you prefer ROS: Nick Lodolo or Robbie Ray? Currently in first place and mainly concerned with September playoffs, so September schedules may be relevant.  Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:04
I'd probably go Ray. Longer track record; better overall team, no chance of an early shutdown given he missed first half of the year.
Bob
12:05
Do you prefer Vodnik or Faucher?
Brent Hershey
12:05
Faucher—think of them on the same tier, but Coors tilts it negative.

Good morning Brent.  16 Team, Mixed Keeper League.   Luis Rengifo - Keeper next year?  Can be kept for $10.  Assuming full recovery, what's your best guess as far as $$ next year (OBP, SB, HR, DT and RP)?
Brent Hershey
12:08
Yep, for sure. Think his rate stats will be similar; so $20-$25 player? Note that he'll likely also only be 2B/3B eligible to start in a standard eligibility league.
Porcho Villa

Best all around bench bat to round out the roster: Luis Garcia Jr., Tork, Lux, Tyler O’Neill, Parker Meadows? (5x5 OBP)
Brent Hershey
12:11
Probably O'Neill with Lux close behind (esp if you think the 'new' Lux is here). Lux also likely covers 2B and OF as a bench player for you. Garcia Jr  brings the broadest category coverage, though.

Bowden Francis for ROS and next year? QS league
Brent Hershey
12:13
Interested, yes; but not overly committed at this point. Note that his 2 starts last week were only 2 QS of the season. Would like to see more.
Ron
12:15
Hi Brent, do you have a player likely available in shallow leagues who could be a BOON (R, HR, RBI, AVG) down the stretch? Ignoring SB.
Brent Hershey
12:15
Always easier to pick from a list, but maybe the aforementioned Gavin Lux? Look for good team (R & RBI) and playing time (which Lux might be a bit short on)
Coby Mayo
12:17
Could I be called back up when rosters expand or is 2 weeks not enough time to make adjustments in the minors?
Brent Hershey
12:17
Unless there's an injury, I'll bet you complete the season at Norfolk, then get a couple of the last weeks in Balt.
Ron
12:21
Keeper question, Brent.  How high are you on A. Bohm in a 12-team 5x5?  A $20 player next year?
Brent Hershey
12:21
In a 12, kinda all rides on his power. Has shown it in flashes (masterfully turned on a ball for this weekend's HR), but is that the best version of him? Or is it the doubles, gap-to-gap King with a solid BA and great approach that he's grown into this year? Probably right around a $20 player; but certainly has a foundation for more.

12:23
Do you believe in Victor Robles
Brent Hershey
12:23
Yep, b/c he's still young and that talent/pedigree hadn't changed. Believe it more that he's doing this after changing teams (just something that WAS missed or he or them weren't able to figure out). Will never be the McCutchen comp that I thought was possible when he was coming up, but this version could work for a while.

In a 5x5, I need to drop one of Vaughn, Schanuel or Casas.  Please advise.  Also, would you drop Lodolo for Kelly where K's are not in play.  (I'll see you at FPAZ!).
Brent Hershey
12:26
I'd drop Vaughn, even with his good August. Other two are better all-around guys, especially with Schanuel's growth. And yes, agree on Kelly > Lodolo where you don't need Ks. Better win potential, not having to worry about ballpark a big point.

And yes, see you at FPAZ, Richard!

Did I expect too much out of Gavin Williams?
Brent Hershey
12:27
Perhaps. This is a young pitcher coming off a season-long injury. Gonna be ups/downs.
General McArthur
12:34
good morning, Am I worth keeping (on the bench for a while) for the rest of the season? I am pitching better recently, and Erceg was used with a 4-1 lead earlier in yesterday’s game?
Brent Hershey
12:34
If you're searching for saves, I'd move on. At best (from McArthur's perspective) it's going to be a mix; so then you'll worry about timing the market — and the downside (blowups) will always be there if you just run him out there sight unseen.

Re Erceg: don't forget to check the play-by-play. KC was up 4-1 B7, but bases were loaded with one out and Elly and Steer coming up. Most important outs of the game; and he got 'em (2 Ks). That's what a stopper looks like.

4x4 AL only keeper league  for 2025, please name the closers for these 5 teams. KC, CHI SOX, REd Sox, Angels and TB and the sleepers if any on same 5 Thank you
Brent Hershey
12:37
Pretty impossible, but here goes:
  • KC: Erceg (sleeper: Bubic)
  • Chi Sox: Kope--- ah, nevermind. No clue here. They'll still be bad, so of little consequence
  • Bo Sox: a free agent signee.
  • Angels: Joyce (sleeper: Roansy Contreras)

Erceg/Joyce should be your targets right now

Happy Monday Sir, Thank you for these chats. Love to get your opinion and it’s helped me all season. Currently in 3rd in a 5x5 dynasty league with OBP, NSVH and QS. I’m within striking distance of the top and finally got players back I’ve been holding on my IL (Casas, Harris II, Nolan Jones, Josh Jung). Now I’m in a bit of a roster crunch and hoping you could help me rank for this season and next season: Shay Whitcomb, Noelvi Marte, Spencer Torkelson, Jhonkensy Noel and Jordan Walker. Also, would you rather Nick Lodolo or Kyle Harrison?
Brent Hershey
12:39
This season (and next, too): Marte, Tork, Noel, Whitcomb
Give me Harrison over Lodolo. Better park, healthier history
Porcho Villa
12:41
Tight roster coming into the home stretch with Pepiot and (hopefully) J. Jones and Gray-Rod coming off the IL soon. Will need to drop 1-2 SPs to make room. Who (if any) would you drop to activate: Springs, Woo, Pfaadt? (5x5 QS)
Brent Hershey
12:41
I'd drop Springs, would try to keep the rest. Next cut would probably be Woo (injury dust-ups; not sure on QS), but would not like to do that at all.

H2H Daily (AVG, OBP, TB, K, HR, R, RBI, SBN) need immediate bat for playoffs.  C - JTR, Fermin, Heim, Langeliers.  OF - Wallner, Soler, Benintendi, Butler,
Brent Hershey
12:44
Not sure if you want 1 overall; or 1 in each cat.
C: Langeliers (that 2H BA!), then JTR
OF: Butler

If you want just one overall, I'd take Butler. Broadest base of skills

H2H daily (IP, QS, ERA, WHIP, K/9) need SP for playoffs. Rodon, Lively, Pallante, Tallion, Freeland, Morton.  QS is where I struggle the most.

You have been of great help all season and the chats are one of the best features of BBHQ.  I am coming down the stretch in a close mixed 6X6 rotisserie league, and I need your help again.  Three questions:
1) I am close to add points for holds where I have done well enough, mainly thanks to Bryan Abreu.  I have saves locked up and Fairbanks is going on the IL, so I want to add another holds pitcher.  The ones recommended in the good BBHQ article are not available (lRobertson, Adam, Jax, etc).  I can pick up Nardi, Hodge, Ercel, R. Thompson, Tyler Rogers, Banda, or any other suggestion, for ROS.
2) Need two pitchers for the coming week or so from Musgrove (who looked good), Fried, Gallen and Lodolo (who has struggled in 2 of 4 outings).
3) I have Max Muncy and Tommy Edmons coming off the IL.  Should I wait to activate and who would I cut between M.Rojas, Yepez and Heliot Ramos?
Brent Hershey
12:48
1) If Ercel = Erceg, then that's who you want out of this list. Banda and Thompson could work for holds, too.
2) Our numbers like Lodolo best. @PIT is a part of it. But if you don't want that risk, then Musgrove
3) I'd cut M Rojas for Edman; maybe wait on Muncy? Though Yepez would be the cut there, I'd hang onto Ramos.
