Good Monday, chatters! Thanks for joining, and all the questions in the queue already. If still submitting, remember that a brief context is helpful for the best response. Let's go!

12 tm H2h pts league: For next week would you start at C Jonah Heim 6gm (2 gm@ARI, 4 @MIN; No LHP) or Yanier Diaz 7 gm (4 BOS, 3 @DET)? Would you roll with a single start from Braxton Garrett vs WSN or either a 2x start from Clevinger (SEA,OAK) or Blackburn (KC, @CWS)?
Brent Hershey
11:59
Heim slightly over Diaz
Garrett as the SP; talent wins out here.
Good luck!

Happy Monday, Brent.  What is your outlook for Luis Matos? How much PT does he get down the stretch?  Also, what kind of impact do you think Houck will have the rest of way?
Brent Hershey
12:05
Always tough to say re: SF and PT. But when he was up earlier, they definitely gave him ample run and so that would be my expecation -- that if he's up, he's here to play. Obv nice start to it on Sunday.
I think Houck will be tricky ... starting, but always hovering around that 4-6 innings spot, so wins may be tough. Skills have been more solid than surface stats indicate. Lotsa GB; doesn't walk a ton so could be a WHIP help. Keep expectations in line, though.

Would you start Paxton this week, need wins to stay in 2nd place,Thanks
Brent Hershey
12:07
A rough 2-step given opponents HOU and LA, but been such a pleasant surprise that I think I'd throw him out there.

Thanks for these chats, Brent.  You and the HQ team have helped me climb all the way to 2nd in a deep 5x5.  Is this the correct rank for ROS contribution for these OF: T. Kemp > Peralta > Grichuk >> Baddoo?
Brent Hershey
12:09
Of course, great to hear — and thanks for subscribing!
I'm not a Kemp fan for fantasy; my rank would be:
Grichuck>Peralta>>Baddoo>Kemp
Just feel like the others have more juice and certainly in better surrounding lineups.

Happy Brent Chat Day!
Going to hit you with a few questions here.  All are for a 5x5 10 team keeper league with 7 minor league spots:
  1. Bohm- is this just who he is or is that breakout ever coming?
  2. Kirillof, Kelenic, J McCarthy, and Duran which 2 am I keeping for future value?
  3. Finally, my leaguemates can't seem to figure out pitching so I keep picking up and trading.  Which of this group are you packing together for an upgrade somewhere else: Strider, Singer, Ragans, Perlata, Skubal, B Miller (LAD), Woo, and Lodolo? I have Harrison, Painter and Espino in the minors (Yes, I wish I could pick up hitting the way I can grab pitching) Wins not a category but QS is.
Brent Hershey
12:17
  1. He's made improvements but right now is NOT trending towards a traditional power COR IF masher. I think it's possible that at some point in the next couple years (he's still just 26) the power comes -- but he's such a good hitter in real life (bat-on-ball; going the other way) that there's always a risk if they try to turn him into pulling the ball (and the damage that comes with it) more.
  2. Kelenic and Duran (assuming Jarren) -- though Kelenic and Kirilloff are very close for me. Feel like Kelenic has slightly more roto skills (speed) but AK the slightly better overall hitter (with a bigger injury risk). Jake McC an easy 4th in a keeper context here.
  3. Gonna go at this the other way: I'm NOT moving Strider, Skubal, BobMiller for sure, and probably Lodolo also. Most likely to ship out Singer and Peralta; perfect world would keep one of Ragans or Woo. Hope that helps.

Hi, Brent!

What are your thoughts on Tyler Black? He's just a 7-rated prospect on HQ, but it may not account for his impressive season. I'm in a 6-category H2H league that has both AVG and OBP as categories. Is he worth dropping Aranda for as a possible home-stretch boost?

Thanks!

P.S. As a separate venting point, seeing 25 -year-olds like Aranda and Busch stuck in the MILB ticks me off. These guys are having their careers negatively impacted and the league is worse for it, as well.
Brent Hershey
12:20
Yeah, Black has outplayed his rating this year for sure. If it's for this year only; I'll probably still take Aranda even thought it's TAM and PT is always a <shrug> for us, it seems.
I hear ya on the PS, but those are both sharp and deep orgs who have a track record of shrewd player moves. It's likely that they don't rank those two as high as other public lists/evaluators.

Trying to sneak another question in here for that 5x5 keeper league:
Willy Adames and Liover Peguero both available on the waiver wire?  Buy low opportunity? Currently have Gelof at 2b and CJ Abrams at SS with a MI position that I'm alternating Turang/Correa.
Brent Hershey
12:21
I'd stay put with what you have ... unless you desperately need power at any cost (BA, that is) ... then I MIGHT consider Adames. Otherwise, pass.
Braves
12:24
Hi Brent, is Winans (home vs NYM and possibly @SF) worth a stream for this week only? It would come at the expense of Cole Irvin (home vs COL) or Seth Lugo (home vs MIA). Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:24
Would not choose Winans over Lugo, but could see it for Irvin—though that's a juicy matchup, also. Other consideration is how likely or unlikely it is that Winans gets that start #2. And that could well depend on start #1. I'd probably try to ride that ATL juggernaut offense instead of Cole Irvin.
Ron
12:26
Hi Brent! How long before Jose Abreu is back in your estimation?
Brent Hershey
12:26
Right now, not before Sept 1. They likely will take it slow in hopes of having him back and healthy for October. Backs are notoriously tricky injuries of course.
Pedro
12:29
Brent, Thoughts on Gregory Santos and Jason Foley for 24?  I am leaning Santos because less competition and his numbers are better.  Thanks in advance
Brent Hershey
12:29
Skillswise, Santos. But do wonder if CHW clean house and have the resources to chase bullpen help in the offseason (signing or trade?). Think that's less likely in DET. Prob still lean Santos, but it's something worth consideration from where we sit right now.
Steve
12:31
In an AL-only, would you activate Carlos Rodon for his start tomorrow against the Nats or leave him reserved?  I really need Ks and W's but he has been dreadful so far.
Brent Hershey
12:31
In AL-only, you probably don't have many other decent options. Nats have been sneaky good with the bats recently, and that Yanks team seems like it's in a freefall. Our Matchup score is high, though. Probably throw him out there.
Porcho Villa
12:32
Which young hitter do you think is the best bet for a true breakout in 2024: Nolan Jones, Royce Lewis, or Jordan Walker? (12-team 5x5 OBP)
Brent Hershey
12:32
Tough ... I like the chances for each. I'll go Lewis.
HarrytheK
12:35
Is Shane McClanahan worth a 2024 stash in a 14 team league that keeps 12 (2 IL spots during season)?
Brent Hershey
12:35
Wow ... so tough to tell. 2nd TJS reduces likelihood of getting all the way back, and knowing you've only got one IL spot to use during the season certainly limits you in 2024. If it's more likely that you're punting 2024, then yes, he seems worth it. If you envision yourself in the running for a crown or money slot in 2024, then I'd probably pass to give yourself more flexibility in that season.
HarrytheK
12:37
Which 2024 stash do you prefer in OBP league: Vaughn Grissom or Jonathan Aranda? Both seem to have had trouble cracking their team's lineup and may need a change of scenery.
Brent Hershey
12:37
Grissom; think its more likely that some team along the line gives him an everyday opp; whether that's ATL or somewhere else. Could see Aranda being yet another of those frustratingly good Rays players who play 4x week and haunt us fantasy managers.
Porcho Villa
12:39
Please rank these bounce back veteran SPs for 2024 value: Sale, Skubal, Paxton, Lynn
Brent Hershey

My stats say Paxton has done it in 2023, no? :-)

Skubal / Sale / Lynn / Paxton. Skubal>Sale b/c of youth

10 Team Mixed Roto Keeper - Can keep as many player as you would like for additional cost per keeper. I'm looking towards future years and was looking for advice/rankings on the below keepers:                                                                                      Bats: CES, Curtis Mead, Esteury Ruiz (James Wood & Evan Carter are available)                                                                      Pitchers: Eury, B. Miller, Abbott, G. Williams, G. Rodriguez, Kyle Harrison                                                                               Do I have too much inexperience? Also keeping Vlad, Vinnie P., O. Cruz, Machado, Soto, and J. Walker
Brent Hershey
12:43
Last item first: If you're looking to the future, you don't have too much inexperience. Nothing wrong with that six-pack at the end.
Bats rank: Wood, Carter, CES, Mead, ERuiz
Arms rank (am going to insert both B Millers for you to sort out): Eury, G-Rod, BobMiller, Williams, BryMiller, Abbott, Harrison

Emmanuel Rivera is on waivers in our deep NL keeper league. Does he get opportunity in 2024 or has his 27-year-old ship sailed? Similarly, does Meckler as a free agent add today have a 2024 role?
Brent Hershey
12:47
DBacks lack of commitment to Rivera (sending him back down when they could have gotten longer look) doesn't bode well, as there were already power question marks in the profile. Also somewhat skeptical of Meckler (the quick rise doesn't allow for a ton of analysis); just very little record to say that he'll have a sizable 2024 role. I'd prob save my FAAB dollars or FA adds.
Beano
12:49
Nearing the last lap! NL 10 team 5x5. I am in first by a whisker. I am looking to waive Meckler to FAAB Marte. I have $24 left but I am thinking $12 at most because his PT is not certain. Should he go for more? And will he play enough and well enough to make a difference?
thanks for these chats!
Brent Hershey
12:49
Worth it to chase IMO; indications from CIN are that his PT IS fairly certain; they are plugging/playing at 3B. Could see spending even a bit more of that 24 ($15?) if you feel you need to (you know your competitors and their remaining $, etc). But this is a good upgrade.
Kasey
12:50
Brent, thanks for being here. Put on your Future Vision Glasses. In a keeper league (NL), which of these pickups might be worth the 10 unit price in '24?                    Tauchman, CES, Baty, Monasterio, I. Vargas
Brent Hershey
12:50
CES and Baty for sure. Tauchman ... probably not; and am not interested in the other two at that unit price.
michael
12:53
hi Brent- NL only 4x4 (no sb's)- rest of year, need 2 - Meckler,Garrett, Montero,Joe, Canha Winn Burleson and Stewart on the Mets seem to be the best options.
