Hey crew ... a bit of a late start here, but we'll roll through these in the next hour-plus. Happy Monday as we head into the final six weeks!

Now that the Phillies have sent Bohm down, what are your expectations for him next year and on?  Thanks.

Detmers has mostly struggled in his starts since getting called up. Long-term, I've read comments putting him anywhere from an average type starting pitcher all the way to potentially a top of the rotation pitcher. What do you think?
Brent Hershey
12:12
My expectations are middle of the rotation; and hope he develops from there. Remember it's really early; rookie pitchers are always tough bets from a fantasy perspective. Like the stuff enough to wait for it down the road.

Hi Brent - What are your thoughts on Hendricks facing COL at home today? He's not in HQ's projections. Thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:14
That's been updated now; he's a 0.3 -- so, middle of the road type start.

Thanks for these! Love em! NL 5x5: I need to make room for Hoskins - do I waive B Anderson or A Dickerson?
Brent Hershey
12:15
Dickerson ... like what SFG have done and he's been a part of it, but Hoskins' ROS power proj (and ABs) higher from here on

Is James Karinchak a drop candidate? Skills have dropped off since sticky stuff ban has been enforced and no longer seems in the saves mix.
Brent Hershey
12:17
Been wondering this myself in a 15-teamer I have him rostered. I'm holding for now (on my bench) just b/c of the CLE situation, though Clase seems to be tightening his role there. In non-hold leagues with a short bench that you could use for something else, dropping him is perfectly justified, it seems.

10 team AL only 4X4 need help in ratios and wins. Is it time to give up on Logan Gilbert and Plesac?  Please rank Houck, Marco Gonzales, Carlos Hernandez as possible replacements. Thanks for the chat!
Brent Hershey
12:22
I'll rank all 5 via our RS proj (4x4):
Plesac
Gonzalez/Gilbert (v close)
<huge gap>
Houck
Hernandez
Careful of recency bias on Gilbert coming off Sat's debacle.

Hi Brent!  First day of my playoffs and need some help!  Looks like the Yankees switched up the rotation with the rain out and Montgomery is going today against Atlanta and the HQ matchups is showing Gil.  How would you rate this start for Montgomery?  Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:23
Sorry bout that! Montgomery at 0.2 — middle of the road — but with a good K rating.

Will we see any top prospects expected to join the Bigs in 2022, coming up for a sneak peek in the next few weeks?
Brent Hershey
12:26
My hunch is that we'll see less of that than in past years since the expanded Sept rosters is only at 2 add'l players, and the minors going through mid-Sept (and some AAA going all the way to October). Could be wrong, but I wonder if 2022 guys like Torkelson, Greene (DET) and Rutschman just don't wait until next year, due also to uncertainly about CBA of the future and what that might entail.

12 team, NL only, traditional 4x4 keeper league.  Can pick up either Paddack or Clevinger.  Whose the better play for next year?
Brent Hershey
12:27
Clev b/c he has a nastier arsenal ... even though obv TJS recovery is riskier.

Good morning, Brent!

It's been a few weeks since I've seen a question concerning the young catchers, Tyler Stephenson and Daulton Varsho. Both seem to be establishing themselves well with the bat.

How valuable will these guys be next season in dynasty leagues? Do you have a preference?

Love your chat!

Like both of their long-term prognoses, and agree great to see them both take some steps forward. Questions for both remain about if they stay at CA in their current orgs ... both have some flexibility at other positions but also kinda blocked by current decent CA a the MLB level. So take into account your dynasty setup, too (1 C or 2; what eligibility reqs are). I'd probably slightly prefer Varsho personally, but it's close.

Morning Brent - two questions, first one about player eligibility. Tanner Houck is pretty much in the rotation, optioned up and down, yet in my Realtime Fantasy league they do not make him available for pickup unless he is on the active roster on Monday, our roster day, and then only for that day, assuming he's optioned again after the game. And yet Noah Syndegaard, not even on the 40-man, is available. Is that typical of fantasy ball? Just trying to decide if I should pull my remaining hair out or be angry ....... but all things pass.... (thanks!)
Brent Hershey
12:33
Sounds kind weird, yes ... though not familiar with the product specifically and those services trying to do their best with the MLB teams manipulating the option rules (up/down w/ Houck). Best advice is to give the company constructive feedback on this; most will appreciate that and at least take it into consideration.

AL-only 5x5 league. Seattle's Logan Gilbert and Yusei Kikuchi have been killing my team this month. Any hope for either one rest-of-season, time to cut? Thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:37
Gilbert's been on a crazy unlucky streak this month via BABIP and strand rate. Other metrics stable. Kikuchi has just flat-out lost the strike zone in Aug; not sure what to say there. I do know that HOU (the weekend blowups for both) is a tough go, esp for a LHP. And Kikucki has now underperformed his metrics for last two seasons.

Hi again - 10-team redraft, streaming an extra closer. Romano is available and has 7 games but the Blue Jays have only 36 save opportunities this season, as opposed to maybe-closer number 2 Sewald, 6 games, whose M's have 60 save opps. Questions: are team saves opps more that chance? Is Sewald more than a co-closer? Whom would you pick, aware that I may do this for three weeks or so to get into the thick of the saves competition in the league? Many thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:39
Our research says # of save opps on a team level  really predictive. Streaming closers is tough; but at this point in the season I'd go Romano here instead of Sewald if I have to choose one. With Castillo out, I think Sewald is choice 1 in SEA ... but all subject to change of course.

Brent, thanks for taking the type to answer questions, my friend.

As a Dodger fan, I thought that trading for Bellinger early in the year was a "can't miss," but he's been killing me in my H2H league.

Who do you like as a Band-Aid option down the stretch? Miggy, Candelario, Wisdom, Tellez, Wade? I prefer someone who plays nearly everyday and will contribute in the BA/OBP categories, while popping a HR here and there.

Is Jeimer my guy?
Brent Hershey
12:43
Actually like Tellez a smidge better than Candelario. Statcast darling, more pop in a better park than Jeimer, obv much better team context. MAYBE not as many AB if they continue to platoon, but Escobar injury could play a part, too. I'd pass on the other trio

Happy Monday, all!!

Brent, we're in "go for it" mode in our dynasty league after originally heading into the season with a builder mindset. We're ahead of schedule! 2nd best record in the league as of today.

This said, would you trade Tork and J-Rodriguez for Kyler Tucker? This is a "forever league."

Appreciate the help!
Brent Hershey
12:48
Ohh, that seems like a lot of give up. On the one hand, you've got this far w/ your current crop, right? Maybe you play it out.  I'm usually one to say if you're close, go for it with something like this. But that's probably 2 of the top 5 prospects in the game right now for Tucker, who hasn't played for 10 days via COVID. Sure, has long-term value, but that's not a risk I'd want to take on when giving up Tork and J-Rod in your situation.

I added Nicky Lopez on a whim last week and he's been a welcome addition to my team (10-team roto). If the Royals are going to keep letting him run, is this someone worth keeping around?
Brent Hershey
12:50
Could be; he needs to continue to hit for sure -- but the margins are slim b/c there's just no power there. But yes, I think KC will continue to run and he can be a difference -maker here for SB down the stretch. But in a 10-teamer, my sense is you're giving up a lot in the power categories to keep him.

12:52
Thoughts on Paul Sewald vs. Luke Jackson as a Saves+Holds (1 point each for either stat) target? I already have Tyler Rogers, Loaisiga, Romano and Smith so this would be someone to rotate in until my IL'd SPs come back.
Brent Hershey
12:52
Where it's 1 point each, would probably lean Jackson slightly, and hope his out of this world August continues. But as mentioned I'm a Sewald fan, too ... but better MLB team wins in this case.

We all know about the benefits Michael Kopech can offer a team, but which other long relief relievers are worth targeting that may offer similar value the rest of the roto season?
Brent Hershey
12:55
Start your search w/ the Rays roster: Collin McHugh and Shawn Anderson for sure. Mitch White in LA?

Hi Brent. Two lineup questions. Head to head points league. Two start Daniel Lynch or the snake bit Sandy Alcantara? And Trent Grisham or Jared Walsh? Thank you for doing these!
Brent Hershey

Love Lynch, but Sandy wins. And Walsh; that SD team reeling in general right now

12:59
Good morning, Brent --

Unfortunately, I'm out of the playoffs this year in my H2H league. I'm looking to use this time to grab a few bargains for next season. I'm eyeing a couple of 30-year-ish players -- Jeff McNeil and Kyle Hendricks. Both have had down seasons, but should have a few strong seasons left.

Good strategy if I can acquire them cheaply?

Thanks, in advance!
