Howdy, Monday chatters! Again, the queue is full, so let's get to as many of these as I can ... continue to fill 'er up!

Hi Brent…in H2H points, drop Paredes for Vientos?  Worried about Paredes shoulder and trying to pull the ball in CHI.  Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:03
Yes, I would do this. Vientos has been super impressive and past Statcast metrics point to this being somewhat sustainable -- and all you need if for rest of season, right? Make this filp.

Hey, Brent! Always a pleasure.

What are your thoughts on Lux's 2nd half-performance? Can he be a league-winner?
Brent Hershey
12:06
Thanks, Judley; this is always a fun hour.

I'd continue to ride Lux. He's not going to play against all LHP, but Roberts has slid him in there moreso here in the 2H. Pedigree has pointed to this level of production; excellent team context; gaining confidence. No reason to pull him now ...go get that title!

4x4 AL only keeper league for 2025. Barger or Butler, Andujar or Horwitz, Francis or Kikuchi, and Carlsom or Robles, Thank you Brent! all same price
Brent Hershey
12:13
Butler / [see below] / Francis / Robles

I find Andujar v Horwitz tough, b/c different stages of career, positions, etc. Really intrigued about some of these OAK hitters in Sacramento ... but OTOH how much are they invested in him? Horwitz if you have to make the call now, but if not there's just too many variables between then and now. Others were fairly clear-cut.

In an AL-only, please identify 8-10 top prospects who have not played in the majors earlier this year but who you expect to be called up in September.   Thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:18
Not sure I have 8-10, ha -- and this is serious guessing game. But, maybe look more into ...
  • Jackson Jobe
  • Christian Moore
  • Caden Dana
  • Spencer Jones
  • Carson Williams
  • Colson Montgomery
  • George Valera

12:20
What are your thoughts on DJ Herz? Can he be a stud in the future?
Brent Hershey
12:20
Not a stud, no. Has impressed with Ks / swing and miss and adapted way quicker than I thought, but battles with walks is going to keep him more in the mid-rotation tier.
Steve
12:21
What's Connor Norby's potential going forward?
Brent Hershey
12:21
Solid regular, probably at 2B, but maybe gets 3B eligibility also some seasons. Matures as a .275-.280 hitter, 15-18 HR most seasons.

Happy Monday Brent! We’re in the endgame now and as always I need to start with a thank you for these chats. Since the offseason you’ve been a great resource and I would love to see more of these during the week. I’m in a 5x5 OBP/QS/NSVH 10 team dynasty league battling it out for a podium finish. Due to that dynasty nature I’m always trying to find a balance between this season and future seasons. Could use your advice on which players you’d want to help finish this up but not giving up someone I’ll regret next year For RP would you rather Justin Martinez or Camilo Doval I have Soler as an extra extra OF and could use a second Catcher to fill in for O’Hoppe during his numerous days off. Would you hold Soler for those potential HR/OBP help/RBIs or add Stephenson, Ruiz, Jeffers or Kirk instead to get those counting stats (about 18 games under pace for C)?
Brent Hershey
12:26
Thanks Michael -- good luck down the stretch.

RP: I'd probably lean Doval on track longer record. Given that it's some aspect of Saves and Holds, feel like both should contribute both this year and down the line.

C: Stephenson would probably be a better play than Soler, esp if CA elig (?) is a thing for you. I'd pass on the other CA and prefer Soler instead if you don't get Stephenson

Would you start O’Hearn? He’s been in a slump or would you go to Larnach ,who has been hitting the ball pretty well  but facing a couple of left handers this week, thanks
Brent Hershey
12:29
O'Hearn. He's coming off a week where AB were a bit less b/c BAL was facing a bunch of LHP. Larnach is solid, but as you said he gets some LHP this week. Similar types of players -- and managers use them the same (strong-side platooners), and I'll take R O'H in that instance.

And then I read that Henry Davis got called up….. can’t seem to quit that guy. Did anything change in AAA to make it worth grabbing him again?
Brent Hershey
12:31
Certainly hit better and struck out way less in this AAA stint. He's really only up b/c Bart went on the IL, but there were some hints a month or so ago that Davis made some adjustments. Not the worst late-season flyer; gotta figure for the time being he's at least a half-time player with Grandal.

Morning Brent. How do you see the Tampa closer situation playing out. So far, 3 different pitchers have gotten save since Fairbanks' injury. Tamps has a trend toward closer committees, doesn't it?
Brent Hershey
12:33
Yes. I have a slight fave for Uceta, but I don't make the saves situation calls, ha. Feel like it's probably a spilt rest of the way; Uceta has given you great ratios so far, so there's that. But if you want certainty and are trying to figure out the "right" guy, you'll probably be disappointed.

N. Marte driving me crazy! I need your take on this. I was flabergasted when he became a daily player in the Cinci lineup upon return from his 80 game suspension. It seems & seemed obvious to me he shd have been in AAA. He has hurt the Reds trying to get it back at this level. It also seems the move forgives his behavior in being suspended. Do you agree with my take, Brent, or am I [ticked off] for no good reason.
Brent Hershey
12:38
A couple things (my perspective):
  • He WAS at AAA; at some point before the suspension ran out he was allowed to rehab there.
  • There were a few good signs last week; this lines up with the theory that batters need several weeks of MLB-level opponents to get timing back (in other words, he's just 'finishing up' spring training
  • The "forgiving behavior" ... this isn't how the team thinks about it. You can make other decisions on how/if you want to roster him, but CIN is trying to win games and feel like he gives them the best shot.
I think there's decent shot he has a good September; CIN will still give him tons of chances to do so in my opinion.

12:44
Good morning, Can you explain why Lazaro Montes was transferred to the “development list”? What does it mean? Isn’t surprising to do it at this moment while it seems he was just starting to master the A+ level? Thank you for answering my question
Brent Hershey
12:44
My hunch is that it's disciplinary — again, just my hunch. Teams have used this in this manner before. And it could well be that BECAUSE he was starting to master A+ that the team thought he needed a wake-up call (IF IF IF this was the case; again, just my conjecture). If there is sort sort of non-performance based issue (off-the-field, sometimes), teams would rather address that in the minors than in the majors. Once more: just a guess of mine.

Brent - any suggestions for a reliever that won't have 50 IPs (career cumulative) for a Scoresheet team to stash for next year?
Brent Hershey
12:49
Haha ... one of my favorite Scoresheet tricks here in the season's final supplement draft this week. No one off hand ...  but take a broad look at relievers who have debuted this month with great skills (and some pedigree helps). Basically looking for Abner Uribe (who didn't work out) or Orion Kerkering (who did) from last season.

In a fairly deep NL-only keeper league, are either Tena or Chaparro decent options for my CI slot?  Thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:51
Both long shots beyond this year, but like Chaparro's chances (and pop) better than Tena

The Brewers have shifted Misiorowski to relief with promising initial results. Will he be a call-up prior to September 1 so that he might be a playoff asset? Seems destined for closing down the road.
Brent Hershey

Would agree on both of these. And for Greg's Scoresheet reliever question a few back, here's a name to check on (though could well be rostered already)
