Welcome, Monday chat faithful! Just five weeks remain; MLB races heating up, as are the fantasy ones. Got a bunch of questions already; will field others throughout the next hour. Let’s get started…

12 tm H2h pts. C.Sanchez vs LAA or either B.Williamson @SFG, CHC or Wade Miley @CHC,PHI?
Brent Hershey
12:03
Our Matchups tool rates the single Sánchez start way above the other two doubles. Impressive run Sánchez is on, catching a depleted LAA squad. Philly bats rocking; and I feel there is still Ohtani-2nd opinion fallout possibility (he shuts it down to get surgery started ASAP).

Need to drop one:Zack Littell or Brady Singer.
Brent Hershey
12:03
Singer. I see followup that this is for dynasty; don't think that changes my answer. Both are shorter-term plays, I'll take the TAM org over KC right now very easily.

Happy Monday, Brent!  Thanks again for these chats!  In H2H points, CES or Royce Lewis ROS?
Brent Hershey
12:06
In a points league, feel like Lewis is the better play (less strikeouts, broader skill set for points).
Dave
12:08
With Kyle Wright returning shortly, cut Berrios, Ober, or Christopher Sanchez for him in wins-heavy H2H points?
Brent Hershey
12:08
Hmm ... I've got some Wright stashed myself, but have questions on how much we should be counting on him once he returns. But if you're absolutely committed, I'd trim Berríos before those other two.

I've seen good reviews (not from BHQ) of Wicks ( SP, CHC) and H. Goodman (1B, COL). Both seem crazy to me, but are either worth pickups in an NL-only, either for this year or next?
Brent Hershey
12:11
In NL only, Wicks is a maybe for this year and a yes for 2024. Mid-rotation potential. Goodman a no for both; feel like esp with Blackmon back and playing better than expected, and Montero/Toglia and other similar players getting the chance already, Goodman is unlikely to have an impact. Ks a big problem.

Hi Brent, I have Ryan off of IL and need to drop one of the following pitchers in my H2H Points League. Who's likely to have least value over the next few weeks? Garrett, Pfaadt, Hendricks, Javier, Ober. Thanks, as always, for the time!
Brent Hershey
12:14
I'd probably cut bait with Hendricks's lower ceiling, though the Cubs winning some games is a consideration. Garrett, who it feels like it losing some steam compared to earlier, could also be in the conversation.

Thank you Brett! 4x4 Al only ROS need wins saves and pop. Duvall or N velesquez  Ryu or Ragans..C wong or Fermin.. westburg or J rojas
Brent Hershey

Duvall
Ryu slightly, since no K category
Fermin

As always - thanks for these chats! NL 10 team 5x5. I have $22 in FAAB left & the two guys I think will draw the remaining loot are H Goodman and Wicks. If I bid $13 on Goodman, I think I get him - the teams with a little more money than me don't need hitting. I figure 13 and 7 on Wicks. If I'm wrong and Goodman draws the big bucks, I lose on both. Which do you think has a shinier future in 2024 and provides the most help this year?
Brent Hershey
12:19
Thanks, Beano! As you might be able to infer from above, I'm not a big Goodman believer. Just think it's crowded there in COL, and while the power is big, not sure he has the other skills necessary to thrive and standout there. Maybe next year over this one, but just not a fan of the profile.
Wicks is the call for me, both ROS (still a risk of course) but especially in 2024.

Good morning Brent In a 5x5 dynasty league where we keep 7 minors for $2 and can get players in the minors, International players and college players. I had D.L Hall get promoted so my 2 questions are: 1) Is D.L. Hall worth keeping if I have to waive Jason Foley? 2) I'm looking at one of 3 players to replace D. L Hall between Lazaro Montes OF, Seattle (compared to Yordan Alvarez), International player Jung Hoo Lee (chance he goes to NL I realize) Johnathan Ridriguez OF Guardians or Jonatan Clase   (OF-Seattle) I want the best potential player and willing to wait-What are your thoughts?
Brent Hershey
12:25
1) Yes, the talent — which is a big consideration in dynasty of course — says Hall > Foley. If Félix heads to TJS, Cano likely gets the first look, but by next year Hall could well be in that picture.
2) I'd swing for the fences with Montes and hope he can keep the K rate under control. Clase would be my #2 choice.

pls rate for 2024 h2h 12 team mixed keeper league. Donovan, nootbarr, l taveras, t carpenter, Swanson.                     Thanx
Brent Hershey
12:28
Number of keepers per team matters here a bunch, and I'm gonna assume D Swanson and Kerry Carpenter. That in mind, I'd go:
Nootbaar, Carpenter, Swanson, Taveras, Donovan

NL 10 team 5x5 - ROS: r Tellez? Vogelbach? Meckler? Assuming HR & BA are both needed.
Brent Hershey
12:29
Tellez in first by a bunch as he's the most proven and MIL will be seeking pop. Probably Meckler next, as Vogelbach seems like a candidate to lose PT over the final 5 weeks.

Who is the better 2024 keeper for 12-team 5x5 OBP: Yainer Diaz or Jonah Heim? Would've leaned Heim all year, especially given Diaz's microscopic BB%, but taking another look now, Diaz has better metrics and production nearly across the board and doesn't have the same injury uncertainty. Then again, slightly longer track record for Heim...
Brent Hershey
12:32
yeah, I'd still hang with Heim, though it's pretty close. I don't have Heim injury concerns for 2024 -- unless of course it comes out that he's not fully healed and needs surgery during the offseason that could spill into 2024. Heim track record and metric-supported breakout this year gives him the sight edge. Though Diaz not a bad choice in a league like this at all.

Hey Brent, thanks for doing this chat.  In an AL-only 5x5 (one catcher) league, for the ROS only, is Conner Wong or Danny Jansen the better option.  BA is not contestable, but points can be gained in HR.  Again, thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:33
Jansen in this case where BA doesn't matter.

12:35
Hi Brent, do you see Masyn Winn being a meaningful contributor ROS or is it likely to continue to be a bumpy road in ‘23? Similar question with Hunter Goodman (worry slightly about his K% in minors). League is 16 teams, H2H with keepers. FWIW, latter is ineligible to be kept so only analyzing as potential ‘23 playoff reinforcement. Thanks so much!
Brent Hershey
12:35
Always risky for the most skilled of prospects to try to ascertain how much they can contribute ROS. I'm more likely to take a shot on Winn in this case than Goodman -- I'm more than slightly worried about his MiLB K%. In theory, Winn can help in more ways that Goodman can in the last 5 weeks. I'd lean that way.

12:37
Do you think Josh Naylor is a good pickup for the fantasy playoffs?
Brent Hershey
12:37
Think it's better than some other shots to take right now. Still some uncertainty but as long as there's no setbacks, he should play once he gets healthy. Another skills-supported 'breakout' season cut into via injury.

Please rank these UT options for a 12 team h2h categories league ROS:                                                J McNeil - K Hayes - T O’Neil - M Chapman - Correa - R Greene - H Renfroe
Brent Hershey
12:38
R Greene / O'Neill ... gap ... Correa/Chapman/Renfroe (1st two w/ 2023 injury risk) ... gap ... Hayes/McNeil

Good luck!

Any chance of these wildcards coming back and making a difference down the stretch: Manoah - J McCarthy - Kiriloff?
Brent Hershey
12:40
Little / some / slightly more than some. Feel like the potential damage Manoah could inflict is likely not worth the risk. Kirilloff more likely to find MLB time if he's healthy than McCarthy. He would be my pick of the three to contribute the most in the final 5 weeks.

Looks like Paxton has hit the wall.  Would you drop him for Z. Thompson in a 4x4?  Or even for a solid MR?
Brent Hershey
12:43
Yes, understandable; Paxton's August has not been good. Thompson might not be my first choice though I could see it if it's your only choice. The MR question all depends on team setup, format, context, etc.
Rob B
12:45
St. Louis Cardinals LHP Zack Thompson has quietly been really good in August (more than a K per inning, limiting walks, gets ground balls). Small sample or breakout mid rotation starting pitcher for 2024?
Brent Hershey
12:45
Despite my answer just above, I'm curious to watch him the rest of the way with this in mind. There has seemed to be some improvements, includes a pedigree, etc. Should get a chance to be a mid-rotation guy in 2024, yes.

Cocktail hour question, Brent.  Do you believe in N. Martini playing/producing down the stretch?
