Happy post-deadline Monday chat! Welcome to all; let's get started...

Hey hey Brent ... quick question for you. What's the chances that buying low on Bobby Miller pays off this season? Is a '25 return more likely?
Brent Hershey
12:05
Trendline doesn't look good for Miller providing much 2024 help. Could be wrong, but in redraft leagues where you don't have a dedicated IL spots, I've moved on. Still high on his long-term outlook, but too many nagging injuries so far to give me much hope for this season.

Do you think Leon gets many starts in Houston? would you start him over Larnach also what are your thoughts on Vargas from the white sox would you start him over either of these guys? The reason I ask I need steals.
Brent Hershey
12:09
Keeping an eye on it for sure, but I think this is more of a fill-in situation for León. Would prefer Larnach for sure -- though be careful of any lefty-heavy weeks there, as he's part of a hard platoon. Playing Vargas over Larnach if you need steals could make sense. Seems like Vargas will be playing every day and possibly near the top of that lineup, at least for a while. Wouldn't expect tons of steals from him ... but he's at least as good a bet for bags as Larnach.

Good morning, my SP have pretty unfavourable matchups this week besides Skubal, Ray and Woo. Could you rank them (fried @col, peterson @col, t-anderson @nyy, bassitt bal oak, crawford @kc, severino @col @sea, mahle hou) for this week only? Thank you,
Brent Hershey
12:11
Yeah, dicey for sure. I'd go Anderson, Crawford, Fried, Mahle, Bassitt, Severino, Peterson

Hi Brent! NL 10 team 5x5: thoughts on how LA will utilize Kopech? And thoughts on rostering E Cabrera?
Brent Hershey
12:15
For now, Kopech is part of that high-leverage mix. Not sure there will be one saves guy there, but would not be surprised if it's spread out. Longer term, intrigued that LA acquired him; will watch closely to see if they can help harness his stuff.

Cabrera - will continue to be ups and downs; just part of the package. Stuff is great when on, but has trouble with command; now the team context is worse.

Brent! Your chat comes at the perfect time.

I've been rolling primarily with Willson Contreras at C this season until recently, due to the emergence of Austin Wells. It's a dynasty league, but I'm also a title contender (H2H). Am I crazy to want to trade Contreras to help my chances? I've become a Wells believer.

Appreciate your wisdom!
Brent Hershey
12:18
Wells fan here .. but if you're in title contention, I wouldn't pass that baton right now; I want the seasoned vet. Assuming you have bench space for Wells, he's great injury insurance for now;  then maybe look for an offseason Contreras deal if you're set on Wells for your future. Your mileage may vary, tho.

In NL only OBP league, ROS MVientos or B De La Cruz?
Brent Hershey
12:21
Vientos; think he rates out slightly better in OBP alone, and then add in the superior power.
will
12:22
AL only 4x4 ROS  Lane or Chisolm , Erceg or Harvey, Berroa or Brebbia,Melendez or Renfroe, Springs or Pivetta thank you!
Brent Hershey
12:22
  1. Chisholm
  2. Harvey
  3. Berrora (tho not sure it matters)
  4. Renfroe
  5. Pivetta, though this is the closest one

Good morning everyone!!

Brent, in a dynasty league with BA and OBP as two of the six offensive categories, consider trading Brendan Donovan for Laurence Butler? The tradeoff would be Donovan's floor and flexibility for Butler's ceiling.
Brent Hershey
12:23
In a dynasty, yes. Ceiling rules.

12:24
H2H 5x5 plus OBP, Ks.  ROS C.  Fermin, JTR, Heim, Langeliers?
Brent Hershey
12:24
JTR (think he improves rest of the way) or Fermin (PT a bit riskier).
Big J
12:26
Pick 2 SPs for this week: T.Bradley @ STL, B.Woo vs DET, R.Ray vs DET?
Brent Hershey
12:26
Bradley and .... Ray. Woo's been great, but too many short outings make him a bit riskier
Bob
12:26
Do you think Ben Joyce will move the LAA closer's role?
Brent Hershey
12:26
Yes, though could be back and forth a bit with Strickland for a few weeks.
Bob
12:29
What do you expect ROS for Nolan Schanuel?
Brent Hershey
12:29
Pretty intrigued with month-over-month power improvements. Never going to be a slugger, but feel like could repeat his July levels for Aug and Sep.

Phillies in tailspin, Dodgers with late inning issues, Braves and lost offense… a wild card National league Representative in World Series? The Padres are more viable either a Western Champ or Wild Card than all of above. When do the Padres get TTis
Brent Hershey
12:31
Still think Phils/LA will be the NL faves come October. Pads are coming on, though. Tatis still without any sure timeline. Sounds like middle of this month at the earliest, but could seep into September.

Hope all is kind. While the financial markets are chaotic, might we find some order for injuries from the Baseball Gods? When might we see Tatis or Yelich or Correa so order will be returned. Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:34
Just mentioned Tatis ... I think the bigger questions with Yelich and Correa is ... can we expect those expected levels to return IF they get back to the field? Yelich (back) and Correa (history of foot injuries) both have maladies that tend to linger. Given their team need (playoff hunt), do each try to rush back too early?

In other words, make your offering.

Eduardo Rodriguez or Simeon Woods Richardson this week?
Brent Hershey
12:36
Given that it's a two-step, I'd go Eduardo -- though the lack of rehab starts makes me a bit nervous, even for a vet like this. Would much rather wait-and-see if I could (though acknowledge that I probably CAN'T in many leagues).

Any idea what the hell happened to Yu Darvish?
Brent Hershey
12:38
No ... other than sounds like some sort of personal issue (which could be any one of a number of things). We'll probably find out more on it later; but I wouldn't expect him back for much of this season, if any.

If you were a betting man, when does Kyle Tucker return?
Brent Hershey
12:38
Labor Day weekend.

Hi Brent!  Thanks for the chats!  Francisco Alvarez has been a black hole over the past month (-25 BPV).  I'm going to let it ride this week with 7 games including 3 @ Coors, but is it time to consider a switch to Gabriel Moreno in H2H points?
Brent Hershey
12:40
I would take that exact tack, yes. Alvarez has had crazy up and down swings; makes it tough in a H2H. Maybe Coors will get him going again. Fun young player to follow. But ... especially in a points league, Moreno as a swap in makes sense.

Thoughts on Luis L. Ortiz for next year.  The recent results have been encouraging, but there is a sizeable gap between his ERA/xERA and the Ks seem low.
Brent Hershey
12:43
Yes, he's pitched to a bit of luck this year, but with PIT's growing rep for developing pitching, I'd be pretty excited for 2025 with Ortiz, seeing what they can do to continue to polish him up. For right now, minimal concerns for 2025 and expect him to be in the rotation from the get-go.

Do you think Diaz from Tampa Bay plays this week or should I start Vargas from White Sox?
