Hey all, thanks for stopping by, and for those regulars joining "live" -- thanks for accommodating the early start this week. Tons to chat on; let's go!

Hi Brent! A two part question on Mr. Chris Sale, who will be making his debut this week: what are some reasonable ROS expectations for him, and how much value does he have in a keep forever keeper league format? (10 teams, 10 keepers). Thanks!!!
Brent Hershey
11:09
ROS on Sale; our projections have him with and ERA in the 3.25 range; at 10 k/9, and walks up a bit from historical norms since command is often last thing to come. But, rehab starts hardly could have been better. Those who have rostered Sale should feel good going forward; if he gets through ROS w/o injury or setback, sounds like keeper material even in a 10-teamer.

Hi Brent,
Thanks in advance for this week’s answers to: 1)Will Loaisiga get saves in Chapman’s absence or is this a committee? 2) which is your pick for most W and QS from Gil, Barria, and Cortes? 3) How would you rank Olivares versus Kiki and Mayfield versus A. Diaz in HR/RBI centric points league ROS (any one of the quartet pique your interest)?
Brent Hershey
11:13
1) Committee, though if I get one shot, I want Loaisiga
2) Barria, though like Gil's skills the best (just not sure he has staying power ROS)
3) I'm an Oliveras sucker (he hasn't done it yet); Kiké is a bit safer alternative

5x5 14 team mixed. Keeper, keep 3. I have been offered L. Robert (5) for my K. Schwarber (12). Given setbacks, dare I accept? Currently 5th place, needs are ave, rbi, sb, & hr
Brent Hershey
11:14
Yes, I think you accept. Risk, but Robert's broad base of skills wins out.

What's your feeling about Justin Turner this week? Nursing a groin injury and afraid the Dodgers will do Dodgers things and rest him on IL. Could go with Lourdes Gurriel as alternative.
Brent Hershey
11:16
Not thrilled with Lourdes as the alternative, but agree with your line of reasoning here and I'll bet he gets more AB than JT this week.

Mornin'... Your site is missing several stas on Plesac, who is struggling mightily. What the Hay is goin' on with him? He has just been dropped in our league. Is he worth a roster spot in a 12Team mixed for '22 season?
Brent Hershey
11:20
When looking at year-by-year stats and skills, 2020 (8 GS) is the clear outlier to me. I'm not overly excited about the rest of the season, and not sure he's 2022 keeper league material. I'd probably pass for now.
James
11:23
Cedric Mullins: late-game pick of the season. Are we looking at a perennial .280/20/20 guy moving forward?
Brent Hershey
11:23
Congrats on that one; as our Forecaster blurb chronicles, we didn't see that one coming so quickly. Step forward in plate skills, power look legit given his career too far. And yes, I'd think what you have is a fair baseline expectation, and some upside off of that.

Thank you Brent for all your time and analysis. HQ Subscriber. I have to make some decisions regarding my 2B position, Roto Keeper. I have Polonco, Cronenworth, K.Marte, Chisholm, and B.Rodgers. I could keep up to three and several have multi position eligibility. Thank you for your advice.
Brent Hershey
11:26
Appreciate the support! Polanco is an easy cut given the rest; Cronenworth and Jazz sure-fire keepers for me. So #3 comes down to Marte/Rodgers. Might depend on where you are in the dev cycle as a team. Marte if it's a short-term; Rodgers if you're another year or two out. Rodgers also a tough call given the org, of course.

11:27
What's your view on Justin Steele for the rest of the year, and beyond?
Brent Hershey
11:27
Cautiously optimistic. Could stick if he pitches well; should have opportunity to do that on this team. But ... rookie pitchers hardly ever a good bet in year1. If you're just looking for 2022 and beyond, though, he gets more consideration, methinks.

12 tm h2h pts. Pick 2: J.Gray @Hou and @SF, Z.Thompson @ SD and CHC, Maeda vs TB, L.Garcia @LAA, C.Carrasco vs WSH and vs LAD
Brent Hershey
11:32
Carrasco and Maeda, though Garcia's rating only slightly behind Kenta if you prefer. Both portions of Gray's 2-step is OK via our ratings, but obv two powerhouse teams, so think I'd stay away there.

What do make of Connor Joe's chances of winning a steady presence in the Rockies' lineup? He's had a sizzling couple of weeks!
Brent Hershey
11:35
Had a great week for sure. Still not a favorite of ours to hang onto a regular slot; think I'd prefer Hilliard getting more AB ROS. Joe needs to do more to convince me this is a long-term play.

Thanks for the chat Brent. 12 team mixed HTH points have C. Sale coming of IL for start against BAL. Would you start him over R. Ray @ SEA? My other starters are F. Peralta, E-Rod, Castillo and all have 2 starts scheduled. Thanks.
Brent Hershey
11:37
Need to make this call myself in one of my leagues (Sale). Given the soft landing, I'll probably lean yes, but Ray has been good also. Slight edge to Sale in this case I feel ... though also perfectly justifiable to wait a week when you have a more stable option like this one (Ray @ SEA)

Hi Brent, AL only, please rank for rest of season and share your views on -- griffin Jax, Matt Harvey, Carlos Hernandez. thanks
Brent Hershey
11:39
Stuff wins out when looking for lightning in a bottle, so that means Hernandez <<huge gap>>  Jax / Harvey for me. Really, he's the only option on this list.

Is Sandy Alcantara's latest outing an anomaly -  it was Coors, after all - or should we be concerned going into the stretch run of our roto seasons?
Brent Hershey
11:42
From here, an anomaly. Five starts since the break have been terrible via ERA/RATIO, but skills (BB%, K%, GLF dist, velo) have all held up. Ride him.
Joe
11:47
Is CJ Cron starting to find a groove offensively, or was it just a product of Colorado? Would you drop Bader for him in a 10-team league (both would start at my second utility spot), and I could use an offensive jolt
Brent Hershey
11:47
Crazy-good last 10 days been fueled by short-term luck, but his skills are not terrible. Bader, as you know, has gone the opposite way over that time. Still like Bader better long-term (made big skills strides this season), but in a 10-teamer, maybe it's time to see how long Cron can keep it up.

Hi Brent, my pitching staff is in questionable shape with Kershaw, Lopez, and Cobb all on IL. Who is my best bet for ROS — Alzolay, Singer, or Lynch? Thanks for any guidance.
Brent Hershey
11:50
Huge Lynch fan here, though admit that first go-round was rough. What we've seen more recently is what I expected after seeing him in the minors; think he has the goods to succeed in MLB. Alzolay #2
Rich

Hi Brent. I’ll need to cut E-Rod or Sonny Gray to make room for Chris Sale. BHQ’s ROS projections are comparable. Which one would you cut?
Brent Hershey
11:54
E-Rod, but only b/c he's been slightly more erratic in 2021. This is one example where if your rules allow it, might NOT activate Sale this week, and see where you are in 7 days.

11:56
Hi Brent - many thanks. HQ has A's catching at 60/40 Murphy over Gomes but last week it was 16ab Gomes vs 8ab Murph. What's your take?
Brent Hershey
11:56
Still stand by the 60/40, though definitely needs to be monitored on our end in the coming weeks. That Gomes/Harrison deal a great one in real life for the A's
Jim D
11:58
Cincinnati's closing situation. Givens is a vet with an Alex Reyes-like profile. Do you think they give him a chance or toss him at the first hiccup. Is Hembree back at the end of the line at this point? Thanks!
Brent Hershey
11:58
Think it's mix/match for the rest of the season there in CIN. I'm interested in Givens b/c he's a part of that mix, but don't get the sense CIN will settle on one guy. Just a fluid spot
NB
11:59
Hey Brent - Neither team will have many save opportunities down the stretch, but what's your feeling as to who gets the saves in Pittsburgh and Chicago (Cubs)?  Thanks!
Brent Hershey
11:59
Yay! More saves specs , lol ...

I'd prefer to have Bednar in PIT and Wick (health-dependent) in CHC
Jim D
12:02
Brent - have you noticed over the years any tendency of a team's winning streak upping the performance of their SP's? Thinking about Sonny Gray who has been inconsistent but right now the Reds are flying. Two away starts this week, Atlanta and Phils (both teams playing well too) but Gray's away numbers much stronger than home. Thanks.
