Good Monday, chatters! Got a bunch of questions ready, so let's get to it; lots to cover...

12:03
The past 4 starts of Musgrove have not been good.  Typical ups-and-downs of a full season starter...or is there something more to it?
Brent Hershey
12:03
Was just looking at this beforehand as I was in lineup mode. Couldn't bring myself to sit him; looks like typical ups and downs. Velo actually up over the course of the season, SwK is fine, allowing a few more HR. Open to other factors that may emerge, but I'm sitting for now.

If you were going to roll the dice ros between Center Fielders Duran and Taveras, who would you choose? What about long-term?
Brent Hershey
12:08
Was pretty firmly in Duran's corner for both of these until recently, but yesterday's antics were not a good look. We know that not all of this type of stuff ends up for the worse (see Bohm, Alec), but he's in a tenuous spot right now. Taveras has cooled down from that hot start, but think I might choose him for both of these spans at the moment, for sure ROS. Should not have the pressure that Duran's under right now.

12:10
Do you think this is just an off year for Giolito or have his skills declined?
Brent Hershey
12:10
Skills have not tanked as much as results would indicate, but they have taken a step back. Small nudges in the wrong direction for walks, Ks, swinging strikes and velocity. Cruddy BABIP year has just made it worse. He's 27, so still seems like just a bad off-year, but it's a rough one.

12:13
Dr Hershey, Kirilloff is out for the year and getting more wrist surgery. Any inside info as to why previous surgery didn't fix his issue and any indication if this new surgery should solve the problem?
Brent Hershey
12:13
Not doctor, haha; so no inside info. BUT ... it's quite troubling for Kirilloff long-term, b/c as you mention, one surgery didn't fix it. Was actually surprised he made it back to the majors before this latest setback, b/c there were indications wrist was still bothering him in the minors earlier this year. Will need to be diligent in reading the tea leaves next spring—if he's past this or not. Again, not a doctor -- but this upcoming surgery doesn't sound like a simple fix.

Happy Monday.  Which order would you rank these young players?  Esteury Ruiz, Elly De La Cruz, James Wood and Pasquantino
Brent Hershey
12:14
Elly; Pasquy; Wood; Ruiz

1) Need to pick up IPs without damaging ratios in an AL-Only, 12 Team 4x4.  Thoughts on Wacha, Bradish, J.Lyles, Winckowski, Yarbrough, M. White, C. Archer, T.Davidson.
Brent Hershey
12:17
Would probably lean towards the vets (known , even if they've been shaky) vs. the kids (less known; more blowup potential). Rough rank: Wacha/Archer/Lyles/Yarb ahead of White/Bradish/Winck/Davidson

2.) L. Torrens or M. Viloria ROS? (AL-only, 12 Team, 4x4 roto)?
Brent Hershey
12:19
Ugh ... like Torrens' bat better; but our projections say Viloria with slightly more AB the rest of the way. Flip a coin.

Quick shot, Brent: Puk or S. Dominguez for saves this week?
Brent Hershey
12:20
Seranthony. Despite Robertson's first Sv, still think he's got the larger share in Philly. Puk a fine spec play this week, but gotta use Domínguez over him.
Andrew
12:22
I picked up Druw Jones so I need to let one of these NL farm guys go: M Busch, Cartaya, Hassell or K Watson?
Brent Hershey
12:22
Busch doesn't have the upside and/or tools of the others; plus in a deep system that rarely gives jobs outright to rooks. He'd be my pick to go.
Ron
12:24
Hi Brent:  should Robert owners start him with full confidence this week?
Brent Hershey
12:24
Yes you should start him, and no I don't have full confidence because of the murkiness around his injury. But at this point in the season, and likely where you drafted him, I think you just plug him in and hope.

Good morning, Brent! I have a quick question for you today.

Merrill Kelly vs. Jeffrey Springs.

Who’s the better pitcher for the rest of the year?

Is Springs the better long-term arm, i.e. the next 2 years?

Thank you!
Brent Hershey
12:28
Yes, Springs to both ROS and long-term for me. And I like what Kelly has done, but has had some good fortune recently that could turn around. As long as he's with the Rays, Springs more likely to sustain this level long-term.

Thanks again Brent. Keeper 4x4 AL only.next year.. Bubba or Leody? Puk or jackson? kirby or cortes? oliveras or isbel? appreciate it!
Brent Hershey
12:31
Leody (better hitter/on-base guy), Puk (pedigree), Kirby, Olivares.
Pedro
12:35
Insights into Clay Holmes' recent struggles?  Thanks
Brent Hershey
12:35
Release point problems leading to poor command, it seems. Fixable, though how soon really matters for us. Still a great value either way.

What’s going on with McClanahan, two rough starts in a row against average teams
Brent Hershey
12:38
Skills have gone from otherworldly to just very good (again-- very good) over past five starts (roughly seasonal midpoint). SwK and K% have backed up some; some bad luck on strand rate. Throwing strikes at the same rate; velo perfectly fine. Should be fine, but might not make it back to 1H levels the rest of the way.

12:39
Now that the Padres made their dramatic move, what do you think it will take to sign Juan Soto?
Brent Hershey
12:39
Not sure that's changed much; with Boras he's still going to seek a record-setting payday; both in AAV and overall payout. As well he should, given his youth and skill set. Question will be if SD willing to give it to him.

12:40
Both Connor Joe and Nelson Cruz have been disappointing lately and I'm going to drop one of them in my NL-only redraft league.  Who's better ROS?
Brent Hershey
12:40
I'd go with youth here and keep Joe over Cruz
Porcho Villa
12:41
Which C would you prioritize ROS for all around production: Kirk or Melendez?
Brent Hershey
12:41
MJ in the leadoff spot is tempting, but Kirk just the much more established hitter, and surrounded by a much better lineup. So Kirk for me.

12:41
K. Bradish, C. Ragans, or R. Yarbrough ROS (4x4)?
Brent Hershey
12:41
Bradish; hoping he can iron out command problems.

Hi Brent! After Joe Ryan’s nightmare start vs. SD, followed by his stellar start vs. Detroit, I can’t help but wonder … what is this guy’s ceiling? Care to help provide some wisdom? =)
Brent Hershey
12:44
Feel like Ryan is a guy who is going to defy and outplay mediocre projections. He's still a mid-rotation guy for me, but someone who can dominate lesser and/or inexperienced lineups like Detroit's. His deception will give him a slightly higher K rate that some other mid-rotation guys. Don't think there's a consistent #2 starter or higher here.

NL 10 team 5x5 FAAB DAY! would you rather bid on/own Montgomery, Odorrizzi, or Thor?
ON offense, would you waive McCarthy to get one of: W Myers, R Grossman, B Marsh, E Montero, Gallo or E Rivera.

Finally, and it may be too big an ask  how much would you pay for any of these guys (or perhaps over $5/$10/$15/$20...)?
