a) JMont first, then Thor. Getting those guys to pitch deep enough for wins will be key.
b) no to most everyone on that list except for maybe Marsh. Think there's a chance that even the bottom-of-the-order young guys in Philly - Marsh and Stott specifically - could thrive ROS b/c of the lineup surrounding them. BUT ... McCarthy's been good since his last recall, had a great last trip to the minors, seems like ARI is giving him a legit shot. Deciding between those two (McC/Marsh) should be your focus
c) Obv your scale (1000 or 100 FAAB) makes a huge difference. I'd be spending pretty big (as big as you can in an only-league) here after the deadline

Pick 1 for this week in h2h pts league: Kikuchi 2x start (@BAL, CLE) or Cobb @SD or McKenzie @Tor?
Brent Hershey
12:50
Seems like ya kinda have to roll the dice with the two-step? McKenzie tempting, but @ TOR no picnic.

Brent thank you for your hard work and analysis. BBHQ Subscriber. 12 tm roto keeper, 6x6, with BB/HLDS. For keeper purposes could you rank these SP, I have to cut one: J.Taillion, J.Montgomery, A.Ashby, and Kutter Crawford. Thank you
Brent Hershey
12:52
Comes down to cutting Taillon or Crawford. Probably Crawford; I'd keep the more experienced starter at this point.

Thanks for the chat, Brent. Strategic free-agent bid decision today, competing for first in an NL-only league where Wins, Ks, and Saves are crazy tight. Which player is the best add: Montgomery, Syndergaard, or Iglesias? HQ projections show Montgomery with only 1 W, which seems odd given his team and their D?
Brent Hershey
12:53
Montgomery; will check on that projection as I agree that seems odd.

Is Brandon Hughes worth a flier against the likely immolation of Rowan Wick? Or is this a bullpen with no real candidates to trust?
Brent Hershey
12:54
I'm trying Wick first, but staying away for the most part for the reasons stated. Hughes a watchlist right now; could change.

Hi! 10-Tm, H2H, category w OBP. Who like as best bench bat, this week — and ROS … Miranda, DeJong, Winkler? Thanks
Brent Hershey
12:55
Miranda in both cases.

12 tm h2h pts. +5 for SV, +7 for W, +3 for QS, -5 for L. Pick 1 for RP slot: Felix Bautista 7 games or Jeffrey Springs vs MIL?
Brent Hershey
12:56
Bautista, partially b/c of Springs doesn't get many QS

As we enter the last third of the season, BHQ tells us that projections on our site are less reliable. This week is prime trading time in my 5x5 league.  What's a fantasy GM to do?  What metrics should we look at for hitters, and for starting pitchers?
Brent Hershey
12:59
Playing time projections (%s and AB/IP) are fine, the results are what is less stable. Standard metrics for both hit/pitch are fine; but I like to check out the shape of a player's season -- 1H / 2H, but especially monthly stats. Who's trending up or down via metrics (as well as surface stats). Use the Monthly tab on PlayerLInk pages

Any chance Whit Merrifield provides significant roto value down the stretch? Rode pine last night with Springer on the IL.
Brent Hershey
1:00
Yes, there's a chance. Don't feel like they traded for I'm to be a bench bat. Yesterday an aberration. Again, VG lineup

Luis Castillo about to face NYY for a 3rd consecutive start - should we be nervous? Love his ROS outlook in SEA though.
Brent Hershey
1:01
Nope; think he's a no-worry ace.

How encouraging was the Luzardo start yesterday for ROS value?
Brent Hershey
1:01
Don't want to overstate it, but he has looked good upon his return and could finish strong, yes

Jonathan Hernandez a legit source of saves ROS?
Brent Hershey

I think so. Has the stuff to take over and wow folks, and Barlow was faltering last time we saw him. Usage week will tell us a bunch

Hi Brent,

Need a big week. Three lists for a weekly points league (key stats are HR (6 pts) and RBI and SB are (3 pts))

1. Start J McCarthy over A Diaz, M. Carpenter, and B. Belt at DH?
2. Start J Baez over DeJong at SS?
3. Start Raleigh over Joey Bart at C?
Brent Hershey
1:04
  1. Yes; ARI has a great schedule; JMcC more secure PT
  2. Might stick w/ DeJong
  3. Yes

Looking to trade the future for help to win this season in my 10-team 5x5 NL-only keeper league.  Which of these are more valuable keepers, ranked in order please (most valuable first): Ty Stephenson $9 , Heaney $1, Senzel $1, Roansy $10, Wheeler $25 and Hassell $5? Each has 2 more years after this one, except that Hassell is on my farm until he is promoted and will have 3 years once that happens.

What has gotten into Jorge Mateo? Went from speed only with no power and awful plate skills to the hottest hitter in the league. Any of this look sustainable? CT% improvements somewhat in line with late 2021 performance.
Brent Hershey
1:06
Has had sneaky pop for a while (showed some last yr). Mildly sustainable; ct% positive, but also -- yes, he's on a hot streak. No need to drop now

NL only league- need SBs badly.  Berti is on a rehab assignment and has played a couple games there.  Take the risk and start him this week hoping he comes back at some point?
Brent Hershey

I would not, no. Rather not risk the zero

For roto leagues that go the full 162, i feel like September is always its own mini season with all of the lineup fluidity and spot starts. Any tips on keeping an edge in the final month?
Brent Hershey

Stay engaged; especially with news/playing time on cruddy MLB teams. Always stats to be had there for those paying attention.

This week only in 5x5, who do you prefer - A. Frazier of S. Brown?  BA and RBI less concern than runs and SB...

Brown

Focusing on SV only, who do you prefer ROS: Houck or G. Soto?

Prob Soto; feel his 'spot' is more secure even after yesterday (blech)
