Gonna start a bit late today. Let's call it 12:10 or so
In the meantime-
Bork

Hello, friend!
august fagerstrom
12:09
Hi, Bork!
Slothrop
12:09
Hey August congrats on the win for Cleveland. Happy for you and your fellow Clevelanders, and of course the players themselves
august fagerstrom
12:11
It's been a really cool couple of days. Beyond the players/team, I'm mostly just happy for my father. That's what's had me most emotional since the win (and I've gotten emotional more than a handful of times). He's lived his entire life as a die-hard Cleveland fan thanks to *his* father, and, like me, has also dedicated his life to working in sports. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't have this job that I love so much. The bond sports can create between a parent and a child is the most special thing about sports in my mind, and knowing that he finally got to see a championship come to his city is the greatest thing about all of this to me
I cried when I talked to him on the phone after the Cavs won and I'm getting emotional just now writing this. So cool. Can't wait til til the parade tomorrow
12:12
Also, the story of LeBron James is one of the coolest in the history of sports, and we grew up just a few miles away from each other. Pretty cool.

Were you at the meetup on Saturday? My big takeaway from that night was that I have no idea what any of my favorite writers look like.
august fagerstrom
12:12
I was!
Funny you say that, because one of my biggest takeaways was being surprised by how many people knew what *I* looked like
12:13
Really great time Saturday at the bar and Sunday at the park. Sorry we didn't get a chance to meet up. Really appreciate everyone who came out and made both events a great time, though

Shoutout to Dave C's full blue tracksuit

12:14
At the wiffle ball game? That was Sporer

12:14
If Kershaw maintained his current rates (K, BB, ERA, etc.) for the rest of the season, this season would be a top ___ pitching season all-time?
august fagerstrom
12:14
Five, easily. If not one.
12:15
Pedro 99-00, Maddux 94-95, Gibson 68 only ones in question for me
Erik
12:15
Maikel Franco has gone from underwhelming to positively bad this year, and has now put up -0.2 WAR. Is that largely explained by bad BABIP luck (.250), or does he have the profile which makes that sort of low BABIP likely, and he might just not be very good?
august fagerstrom
12:16
He does have a low BABIP profile, thanks to grounders without speed. I wrote in the offseason how, since he puts so many balls in play and particularly grounders, he needed to maximize his results on contact by hitting more balls in the air/more power.
That's not happening
Bork
12:17
What's wrong with Marcus Stroman? Are hitters just adjusting to him now that they've got more info?
august fagerstrom
12:17
I don't love how reliant he seems to be on pitching to contact
He's got swing-and-miss stuff! Use it!
PL
12:17
What kind of return would you expect Danny Valencia might get?
Jorge
12:17
Predict a Danny Valencia trade
august fagerstrom
12:17
Believe Mr. Dave Cameron is writing this up as we speak

I wish fangraphs had a college. A physical Campus, too, not just online. Can we make this happen?
august fagerstrom
Think that's as close as we're gonna get
Colin
12:18
Is there any hope for Francisco Liriano this year?
august fagerstrom
12:18
I wouldn't be buying stock until the approach changes, either from his side or the hitters
He seems to have lost something, and hitters seemed to have figured out how to beat him
Not a great combo
Bob
12:18
What's your take on Wei-Yin Chen? Is this just a slump or something else?
august fagerstrom
12:19
He's gone away from what's worked from him in the past. Not sure if it was his idea or the Marlins, but he's throwing all his fastballs low in the zone now, getting hit hard and getting no pop-ups. Been thinking about writing this soon

ESPN's WAR calc has Danny Salazar listed at 3.7, well in the lead in AL, but Fangraphs only has him at 2.0. Any idea why the larger than normal discrepancy? Which number do you think more accurately depicts how good he's been?
august fagerstrom
12:20
ESPN is using runs allowed, FanGraphs uses FIP. And there should never be one or the other that's used. Use both.
12:21
The FIP measure that's a little more down on him accurately reflects his walk rate, which is truly terrifying. The RA9 measure that likes him more accurately reflects how he's been getting more ground balls, double plays, and keeping the ball in the yard to limit the potential damage his walks could inflict

Have we confirmed whether or not Willson Contreras stole the extra L in his name from Welington Castillo?
