Bregman is on pace for a 5.2 win season. At age 22. Have the Astros found another demi-God?
august fagerstrom
12:28
Definitely don't take a 38-game WAR sample and prorate it to 600 PA and call it "on pace"
That's a dangerous game
12:29
Steamer, the more aggressive of the two projection systems on Bregman, projects him as roughly a +3 WAR player over 600 PA
At 22, that's really good
The Astros drafted a player second overall who is very good at baseball. "Found another demi-god" is a bit dramatic

Without looking it up: Who was the last player not named "Trout" to lead the AL in WAR?
august fagerstrom
12:29
Well that'd be 2011
12:30
That's the insane Jacoby Ellsbury year, right?
It is!
Ellsbury: 9.4
Bautista: 8.1
Pedroia: 7.8
Freddie Freeman

Am I the best 1B in baseball right now?
august fagerstrom

I'd still take Votto or Rizzo or Goldschmidt but you're close
Having a hell of a season that's likely going unnoticed because Braves

Do you anticipate the current playoff teams all making it to the playoffs a month from now, or will someone go on a late run?
august fagerstrom
12:31
Been beating the Astros drum all year, no point in stopping now

AL MVP. We have accurate measures of individual performance and we have an award that supposedly is to be awarded based on individual performance. Is not any vote for AL MVP not named Trout an implicit acknowledgement that the award is topical trash? Why are sports writers committed to the creation of nonexistent narratives to define an individual award in the scope of team performance?
august fagerstrom
12:33
Because there's not one perfect, objective measure of player value
Nor is there an accepted interpretation of what the word value means

Hello August. This is how excited I would be if you would consider me for CY Young. What is your take on that?
august fagerstrom
12:34
I think I would not currently consider you too strongly for Cy Young but boy you're having an impressive season!

With the Cubs run prevention reaching legendary proportions, are we past the small sample size stage & ready to just accept that for this season, it's an outlier & most likely will be for the remainder of their season?
august fagerstrom
12:34
Accepted that a while ago. They may very well break the all-time BABIP allowed record

Is Texes not playing Profar or Gallo in order to hide flaws before a winter trade?
august fagerstrom
12:36
I think they're not playing those guys because they think they've got better options

If the Indians make the postseason how many catchers will be on the postseason roster? The catchers (offensively) are being treated like pitchers in the NL in that in tight games there almost always is a pinch hitter.
august fagerstrom
12:37
There will be 2. They're pinch-hitting for them because and only because they're allowed to carry more than 2 on the roster

If an elite reliever (Miller, Jansen, etc.) were given the entire offseason to prepare to be a starter in 2017, what would a reasonable expectation for how they would do? Let's assume the pitcher in question is excited about the idea.

12:37
Been thinking about this a lot lately. More specifically: been wondering how Miller's current approach would work as a starter, having to go through a lineup 3 times throwing just fastballs and sliders
12:38
Obviously he'd have to take the effort level down a notch, but I mean, it's hard to see how guys would suddenly adjust to the slider
May have to think of a way to ask him this question

Yasmani Grandal a top 3 catcher in the NL?
