Hey all! Sorry for the late start; will make it up to ya on the back end. What a fun week, eh? Lots to get to, so let's jump in ...

Hi Brent - Darvish - hurt? tipping? occupying a lot of space on my 10 team redraft roster, dip in skills, drop in results 0 - 4 July, 7.4 era and you don't want to know the rest - drop? I see the strand and HR/F but .......
Brent Hershey
12:07
Trust the July strand/HR/F oddities. Velo off just a tick, but with his arsenal I worry less about that. Skill getting pretty much same SwK; K:BB ratio still strong. I'm still in for ROS.

Thank you Brent for this chat, HQ Subscriber. I have Framber Valdez in several keeper leagues, and am starting to be concerned about the number of BB's that are starting to rack up. Would you please rank these in order of Keeper Value F.Valdez, K.Muller, E-Rod, L.Patino, T.Gonsolin, or H.Ynoa? Thank you
Brent Hershey
12:11
Thanks for the sub, David! Good time for a reminder that Framber's 2020 walk rate was the outlier when you can his history (minors included). Right now, this rate no worse than other non-2020 years. Dang pandemic and small samples.
Keeper rank: Patino, Gonsolin (this year is HIS outlier), Framber/Yona (that duo v close for me), E-Rod, Muller.

Hi Brent,

Three barrel scrappers for you. 1). Which of these is the best bet for saves ROS: Patton (Tex), Wick (Chi), or Rainey (Was)? 2). What do you think B. Belt's playing time is ROS, and is he a better bet for HR/RBI than Choi or teammate L. Wade? 3). Is Cortes done in NY as a 5IP SP with Heaney and Severino in the picture? -thanks
Brent Hershey
12:14
Fine w/ barrels! 1) I'll rank em Wick/Patton/Rainey; 2) Once healthy, I think he's pretty much an everyday guy for SF. Would prob slightly prefer him over Choi, def over Wade. 3) Yes, though could be a consideration given the risk in both of those you mention. But Cortes not one I'm excited about ROS.

Hi Brent.  Any signs of life in LeMahieu’s bat?  BHQ’s projections are fairly optimistic, but his CT% is down and his power is MIA.  What should we expect / hope for ROS?
Brent Hershey
12:18
Boy, tough one. Month-by-month, seemed back to his old self in June, but tanked it again in July. In that park with his history, think you gotta just ride him out, but the decreased ct% and three out of four cruddy months (skill sand results) in 2021 don't bode well for what we all expected.

Hi Brent, thanks as always for doing these chats. My question has to do with hidden injuries. I'm in AL-only 5x5 with Isiah Kiner-Falefa as my C - a C with SBs!! Except he hasn't had a SB in 6 weeks. Any idea what's going on with him? Any other strange stat trend interruptions like this that come to your mind and could point to hidden injuries? Thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:20
Yeah, that a fair speculation, especially since that's about all IKF is giving you. Cesar Hernandez is another previous steals guy who has gone totally dry this season ... maybe it's team-context related and that will pick up again in CHW, but tough to know. On the high profile end, Bellinger/Yelich could fit here, though their injuries are known (but perhaps not as currently healthy as we were led to believe)

Thoughts on Happ getting his hit strike back? I assume he’ll play regularly. Also how will the Atlanta  OF sort out? And finally, thoughts on Hun Yo Park (I think) in Pittsburgh? Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:26
Happ -- there's another mystery man for Jeff KC from the previous answer. A bunch of us were projecting big power gains for him, but he's now hitting 51% grounder, and hard-hit rates are down. He'll get chances ROS, but do you want them? Contact remains a concern.
I'm with you on wondering about that four-man OF in ATL. Would love to think it gives Soler a shot to do some damage ROS, but wonder if they all will get squeezed some when Rosario is healthy. Or, maybe Eddie is just first guy off the bench given his own struggles this year. The skinny: I don't know. Park is a guy who will likely see PT given PIT situation, but not someone I'm picking up right now as a flyer. Not enough proven punch there, despite Triple-A numbers.

Brent, there seems to be a few catchers--28 and younger, making a strong, first impression this season.  Who among them is worth considering for ROS, September roster expansion, or as a keeper for next year?
Also, do you think we will see Andy Rutschman in Camdem Yards this September?  Thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:31
Rutschman - no.
I think Carson Kelly and Max Stassi are legit. Like Raleigh, Torrens, Campusano and now K. Ruiz long-term. As for non-Adley minors guys, Francisco Alvarez (NYM) easily tops the list. Also keep tabs on Moreno (TOR), Melendez (KC) and Huff (TEX). Especially in the minors, some interesting pop-up names this year.

Hi Brent. I have 60 starts remaining in my 10-team roto league. My rotation consists of Cole, Musgrove, S. Alcantara, R. Ray, McClanahan and P. Sandoval, with Sale, P. Lopez and Bieber on the IL. Would you stand pat with these pitchers, or go out and grab a DeSclafani via trade or J. Montgomery via waivers?
Brent Hershey
12:32
I don't see DeSclafani or Montgomery improving that group at all; I'd stand pat for now. Nice staff.
Patrick
12:34
I have loaded up on relievers in my saves+holds league (10 tm) and will eventually need to trim it down as I only have four starting spots for RP. How would you rank them ROS: Tyler Rogers, Will Smith, Jordan Romano, Ian Kennedy, Scott Barlow, Nick Anderson and Daniel Hudson. Thanks much!
Brent Hershey
12:34
Assuming Sv=1; Hld=1; Smith, Rogers, Romano, Kennedy, Anderson, Barlow, Hudson. So, pretty much the same order you have here, though I leap-frogged Anderson
Joe Swanson
12:35
How do you view Carlos Carrasco rest of season, esp in leagues with IP as a category? Are guys like Jordan Montgomery more stable/reliable?
Brent Hershey
12:35
Yes, would prefer Montgomery over Carrasco at this point. Just from a health risk standpoint. Positives for CC ... but has been brittle in the recent past.

12:39
Morning, folks!

It's that time of year that I'm starting to plan for next year. I want to keep 2 of the following catchers. Kelly, Varsho, Stephenson. This is a perpetual keeper league. No brainer to keep the first two? I just get a little easy letting Stephenson go.

Any advice will be appreciated!
Brent Hershey
12:39
Sorry to hear, Bardo ... but prepping for 2022 is fun, too! I don't think it's a no-brainer, but yes, I'd lean the first two. Only other consideration would be that down the road (2023?) Varsho more likely than Stephenson to lose CA eligibility (of course, all depending on your lg parameters). But still would prob prioritize the two DBacks right now

When should we expect Mondesi to show up again this year?

Contending in 12-team H2H Roto but consistently at bottom in HRs/RBIs — need to upgrade 2B or 3B. What’s your order of trust Toro, C Hernandez, B Anderson? And ROS, Rafael Ortega or LaMonte Wade Jr.?  Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:47
Cesar/Toro/Anderson to first question; Wade Jr. to the second.

Monday morning baseball!!! Yes!!

Brent, in a 5X5 league + OBP (6th category), who would you prefer to roster for the next 3 years? Baddoo or Verdugo?

Have a blessed day!

Bryan
Brent Hershey
12:48
Verdugo - part track record, part higher ceiling at this point.

Brent! How are you, bud?

Seeking your 3B expertise today. Who will have the best career over the next 5 years: Bohm, Moncada, Hayes. Can we get a ranking? :-)

Thanks as always!!
Brent Hershey
12:55
Would be STUNNED if Bohm is still playing 3B five years from now. So he's an easy #3. The other two are close for me. Despite the current vastly devalued team context, I'd give it to Hayes. I know contacts who think the power will come and the BA will remain high as he develops, IOW, at least star-level package. Moncada could also get there, but he'll need to continue to improve his contact rate, or else his BA will be volatile. At one point we figured SBs would be a big part of Moncada's profile, but it's not developed and is very unlikely to get better as he ages (tho just 26). But yes, I'd go Hayes.

12:59
Two words: Jose Miranda. Is he legit? When will we see him?

This numbers in AAA are quite impressive.
Brent Hershey
12:59
Honest answer: I don't know. But that's a great question that perhaps ChrisB or I could delve into on a future Eyes Have It -- either on the site or podcast. From a team context, I assume they won't be in a rush, with Donaldson tied up until 2023. But definitely one of the more intriguing pop-up guys this year in MiLB.

Best way to start the week is this chat! Thanks, Brent! HQ ROS projections seem to like Yusei Kikuchi, giving him a $R value  among the top SP options. If you need pitching help, is this someone worth targeting?
Brent Hershey
1:01
Yes, skills have improved very year. Walk rate isn't great, but our xERA says he's pitched 3.50 ball so far and has limited enough hits to keep WHIP low. Good target ROS.

Hi Brent.   I need to pick one of the following to start in a points league this week : Sandy Alcantara, Austin Gomber, Framber Valdez, Patrick Sandoval, Joe Ross. Would appreciate your thoughts.  Thank you for doing these!
Brent Hershey
1:04
Our ranks have Sandoval the best matchup, then Framber, then Gomber. I'd go Sandoval v TEX; can totally see him getting on folks' radar these final 2 months.

I got a quick one for ya, Brent! Craig Biggio. Buy low candidate in dynasty?

Go, Jays! :)
Brent Hershey
1:06
BA league? No.
OBP league? Maybe.
"Trouble" w/ Biggio long-term is his versatility — bat might not have enough umph to force the Jays to play him nearly every day. If that's the case, and Groshans or others push him aside, he'll be a great utility / bench guy ... but one who won't be a quality keeper in a dynasty format.

Hey Brent!  What do you think the chances are that the Twins bring up Jose Miranda (3B) this year?
