Waiting for some questions to come on in
11:08
I'll start with a topic, maybe you guys want to chime in on: Mets appear to be looking to upgrade in CF, as they reportedly expressed interest in Lorenzo Cain. You think this is a good move, considering they have Juan Lagares locked up on a reasonable contract?
Adam
11:11
How much longer do you think the Stanton saga will last?
Smith Brickner
11:13
I don't think Miami would allow just any team to speak with Stanton's people, it'd have to be a team pretty close to a deal. So, I think the Giants speaking with Stanton's people is a big deal. If that materializes, maybe it's done in a week. If not, the process could drag on in January once the Ohtani market really heats up.
11:15
Add on that San Francisco is reportedly one of the teams that Stanton would waive his NTC, it could be sooner than you think

11:18
Deal will be similar to the A Rod Trade to the Yanks.  Money eaten plus a couple prospects.
Smith Brickner
11:18
You could say that, yes.
Steven
11:18
This could all be a bluff for teams to put in their best offers immediately
Smith Brickner
11:19
I'm not too sure about that, multiple reports are confirming that the Giants indeed met with Giancarlo's people in LA. This looks to be the real deal.
11:36
Still here if anyone wants to comment

11:38
Why would you trade panik beede and Shaw for Stanton I rather go with cardinals offer of Sandy Alcántara jack flaherty Harrison Bader Denton
Smith Brickner
11:39
San Francisco must be willing to eat significantly more money than St. Louis. If it weren't for the money, St. Louis' package would clearly be better. As we've seen in the past, however, money still talks.

Wondering what's the next domino to fall after this deal happens.
Smith Brickner
11:40
Expect a plethora of other corner OF and 1B bats to sign. Think of guys like J.D. Martinez, Jay Bruce, Carlos Santana, Eric Hosmer.
11:44
And expect them to sign in a relatively short window. Stanton is Plan A for a lot of teams who could seriously pursue those guys if it doesn't work out.
The real Giancarlo Stanton
11:44
Where do I end up and this is the real Giancarlo Stanton talking
Smith Brickner
11:44
I'd think you know better than any of us, just saying
11:46
I still think St. Louis offers more upside as an organization than San Francisco, but you love the west coast. And after today's news, I lean San Francisco, but St. Louis is 1A for me.
11:47
Even with Stanton, the Giants still need to address other parts of their roster if they want to compete with LA, Colorado, and Arizona. He's a piece, not the piece.

Would the angels make a run for Stanton?
Smith Brickner
11:56
Just think about a Upton/Trout/Stanton outfield, man. That said, they'd be better suited using such money to sign Darvish, which could conceivably give them an advantage in signing Ohtani.
11:58
Plus, what exactly do they have to offer Miami? It's not only the financial commitment, it's also the prospect capital they'd need to surrender. The Angels' farm is worse than the Giants' and far worse than St. Louis', so that's another factor working against them.
Joey B
11:58
Do you think Brian cashman sits this one out entirely?  I think the Yankees seriously are focused on otani...Alex Cobb plan B...Sabathia Plan C C
*** Friday, December 1 ***
Smith Brickner
12:00
I think Sabathia returns regardless. I've always loved Cobb, especially in an offseason in which the Yankees are trying to remain under the luxury tax threshold. He wouldn't cost nearly as much as Darvish, Arrieta, or even Lynn for that matter.
I do think it's fair to say the Yankees will remain quiet, outside of Ohtani (which is obviously huge)
The real Giancarlo Stanton
12:03
What's the hold up in my trade
Smith Brickner
12:04
You're realizing how bad the Giants are.?
12:06
There's certainly some Giants players who are bounce back candidates i.e. Cueto, Samardzija, and Crawford, but there's also old guys with bad contracts limiting what they can do this offseason. I fear Stanton is too small a band-aid for too big a wound
Joey B
12:06
Is Cashman working for free? Haven't heard anything about his contract.
Smith Brickner
12:08
Nothing publicly reported yet, though I'm sure he and Steinbrenner have come to some sort of handshake agreement.
The real Giancarlo Stanton

What can Milwaukee offer for me
Smith Brickner
12:12
Milwaukee plans on using its available resources to pursue a top-flight starter. Add on that they already have a nice group of outfielders, and that Jimmy Nelson may not be back before the All-Star break; most their money will go towards securing a top-flight arm.

12:12
Darvish to get 30 mil a year?  Arrieta's contract could be a tricky one...but someone always seems to overpay for pitching right?
Smith Brickner
12:15
I highly doubt that, unless a team like the Twins or Mariners overpay him with the understanding that he helps them land Ohtani.
12:16
Overpay one elite guy to land another on a league-minimum salary. To me, that's a reasonable investment. But Darvish only gets $30 million in that kind of hypothetical scenario.

What can the dodgers offer
Smith Brickner
12:20
If the Dodgers get Stanton, chances are Puig isn't heading back in return. That means Alex Verdugo will be blocked from starting in the majors. I think Verdugo, Stripling and major salary relief could get a deal done.

Not entirely sure how to answer this question, but, you should try learning about basketball. It's the 2nd coolest American sport.
