Do the Pirates have any players they can trade other than ML prospects and remain in contention? Also are you surprised that there are three divisions with only one team above 500?
Bill Brink
12:42
There aren't many pieces on the active roster who are both expendable and also valuable enough to trade. I'm not too surprised by the divisions. These years happen. Remember when the three best teams in the league were in the NL Central a few years ago?

Is it possible that meadows stays the year in the minors I'd think it would be better for him
Bill Brink
12:42
It's possible, if not probable, especially given his most recent injury.

Lightning round. Go.

cutch goes to....??
Bill Brink

The Rangers would make sense, given their outfield and the need for help against left-handed pitching, but they're chasing the wild card with Houston running away with things so who knows if they'd want to do that.

If Nutting unloads salary like most think he will, will you guys in the press finally call him out and call out Huntington and Coonelly for spinning?
Bill Brink
12:45
I can't speak for the rest of the press but I write about Nutting and payroll when it's appropriate. Like when the team included two prospects to dump salary last year, or when their payroll dropped several million dollars from 2016 this April.

If we trade Cutch, think we may look to pick up another OF?
Bill Brink
12:46
Good question. Maybe with Meadows hurt, they do, if they're in contention, but if they're in contention, do they trade McCutchen? It's a tough call.

What should we expect from Marte rusty and struggles last 2 months or ignites offense and throws bucs into the sorry NL Central race?
Bill Brink
12:47
No reason to expect anything different than in the past (unless he was using Nandrolone previously without getting caught) and maybe with a clearer mind, and a suspension not hanging over his head, he can perform better than in April. There will be an adjustment as he faces major league pitching for the first time in three months, though, to be sure.

Is the NL Central really that weak?  Or are there enough strong teams that beat up on each other such that it keeps the division's teams records down?
Bill Brink
12:48
I think the Brewers are better than everybody thought, and the Cardinals, Cubs and Pirates weaker than expected. I wouldn't say it's a bunch of great teams going SEC West on each other.

You think the Pirates' management regrets the Cervelli extension now? He hasn't lived up to anything we all thought. Pretty disappointing.
Bill Brink
12:49
Probably not because the organization is so thin at catcher in the upper levels. He may not be Sal Perez but he's serviceable when healthy.

After all these years would you consider Polanco a bust and would you trade him?
Bill Brink
12:49
I wouldn
Oops. I wouldn't consider him a bust or trade him yet. He's 25 still and has shown good things at times. Consistency is what's needed.

Is JHay gonna be traded?
Bill Brink

Don't think so.
That's it for today, thanks for all the great questions. We'll do this again next week.
