If I'm trying to contend immediately, I'll walk away with like Mike Fiers, Jordan Lyles, and Michael Fulmer as staff "aces" and try to catch some Gallen types as we go. If my early picks were more in the Wander/Luciano frame, then I won't even bother picking any pitchers.

What do you think about Astudillo this year. He was a sleeper catcher pick for people last year and haven't seen much written about him after a literal up and down 2019
Brad Johnson
4:18
He's actually looking sleepy!
Could be a lot of fun as a C2 in deeper formats.

In a 12 team, H2H using OBP not BA , with Assists as the 6th bat cat, keep as long as you want them with no cost, you gotta keep 4 league:  I’m keeping Yelich, Soto, and Devers.  Who should be the last keeper:  Bogaerts or Alonso?
Brad Johnson
4:20
Oooh that's tough. In H2H I like to try to dominate certain categories. That leads me to Alonso for you.

Alex Verdugo seems to be flying a bit under the radar due to his injury last year and a perceived lack of playing time. His 2019 season seems pretty solid statistically, I have him in a keeper league, should I be concerned?
Brad Johnson
4:20
No need for concern besides the Dodgers overabundance of talent. But they made room for him last year when he wasn't even established so they'll definitely make room this year.
Kevin
4:20
Do you expect any carryover from the injury to Gallo or do you think his production can mirror what he did pre-injury last year?
Brad Johnson
4:21
He should be fine. He's had a goodly while for that hamate surgery to heal.

Assuming no other roster moves, how much PT do I end up with?  Could I snag some starts at 1B to get into the lineup a little more?
Brad Johnson
4:22
With their riches and somewhat shabby division, I assume they'll try to grab another year of club control if they can.
But if the pitching steps back far enough that they're part of the pack, or if he has a huge spring, then they'll be pressured to run him out there daily.

With Tsutsugo coming in (and Choi and others already in house), am I now a man without a spot in the MLB lineup?
Brad Johnson
4:22
I mean, it was always a clogged situation. It still is.

I might be able to keep one of ReyLo, Alex Wood, Chris Bassitt, and Chris Archer in a keeper league (where k/bb is a stat), which if any of those project pitchers do you think might be worth a small investment?
Brad Johnson
4:23
I guess I'd throw a dart at an Archer rebound. If he reels off a few good starts, then he'll be right back where he was value wise. Everybody will always be skeptical about a hot streak from the others.

As someone who was a buyer of Soler last year in most of my drafts, I am shocked and a bit dismayed to see him going in the top 80 picks this year. He is an avoid at that price right? Maybe if he fell to 110-125 range?
Brad Johnson
4:24
It's really easy to write him off as fodder for the regression monster.
4:25
Top 80 seems plausible though, especially if you blanked on big power early. You have to find soooo many HR in today's game.
Personally, I'd rather go for the same profile later in Franmil, Aquino, etc. Not that they don't have more warts than Soler.

I'm seeing Montas getting placed really high (like top 20 among SPs) in some rankings.  That seems exceedingly high given his inability to stay healthy.  Or do we just assume all arms are inherently risky after a certain point and bet on the talent?
Brad Johnson
4:26
I'm kinda with you on both points. An arm is an arm if there isn't a specific factor to fear. But I see enough great pitchers that I wouldn't have Montas in a top 20.
4:27
In particular, his breakout was related to his new splitter which is a notoriously difficult pitch to retain over a full season or year-to-year.
Virtually all splitter specialists go through long slumps.

Whoops, Hey Brad! 10 team dynasty league. Trade Julio Rod and Walker Buehler for Bryce Harper and Jack Faherty? I'm in win now mode.
Brad Johnson
4:27
That's a yes for me.
4:28
There's always a new JRod in 10-team.

What do you think about Domingo German in redraft/dynasty?
Brad Johnson
4:28
In dynasty, I'll just wait for the dust to settle. In redraft with anything like a taut bench, I'll look elsewhere and try to grab him in May.
4:29
And if you're of the opinion that rostering him in fantasy is an unacceptable show of support, then I don't think he's so good that you'll regret mentally crossing him out as ownable.

Are the sign stealing allegations (first against the Astros, now expanding to the Red Sox) affecting your valuation of players at all for 2020?
Brad Johnson
4:29
No.
4:30
Obviously it helps if you know what pitch is coming. But probably not as much as people think.
Kevin

Victor Robles in a dynasty keep forever league. Keep forever, keep and hold or sell high after a solid but with warts 1st season?
Brad Johnson
4:31
Keep forever. For now.

Christian Walker in a NL-Only 10 team league is a starter, CI, or bust?
Brad Johnson
4:31
"Kevin" seems to have a knack for asking questions that catch my eye. Take a break buddy.
Walker is a starter in NL Only even though I'm extremely skeptical
4:32
I'd try to find better, but there is certainly worse!
