I avoid looking at rankings and ADP for as long as possible.
I'm hearing a lot about Nelson Cruz going around #100? That's ridiculous

Most fantasy rankings have Grandal around 150 or so. But I'm in a league with OPS instead of AVG, which I think easily bumps him up to being the second-best catcher after Sanchez and easily into the top 100 overall. Am I about right?
Brad Johnson
4:28
I'd still be picking Realmuto (assuming a trade to a contender) first as the floor is far better than those for Grandal and Sanchez.
4:29
Grandal would be in the top 3 though, yes. I have trouble believing he'd be top 100 unless you're overvaluing catcher. Even if he is, he should be available later in the draft.
We also need to see where he signs, how often he'll play, and his home park

Trevor Richards had a 2nd half ERA of 4.10 with a K/9 of 10.32 with a 90.8 MPH fastball. What do you make of him in 2019?

Interesting flier/streamer
I'll have my eye on him
There's definitely upside. Doesn't mean he'll get there.
And without a supporting cast, no wins

Keep 8 in a 12 team 6x6 (OBP & SLG instead of avg), choosing 2 between 3:
Story at $20
Muncy at $4
Bellinger at $10
Brad Johnson
4:31
Story and I don't have a strong preference between the Dodgers if you like one more than the other. Safe money is on Bellinger but Muncy may be better at half the price if he plays every day.
4:32
The Dodgers being the Dodgers, I do worry Muncy will only get like 450-500 PA
He'll still earn well over $4 though
Don't fixate too much on future years. It's 12-team so it's easy to find new keepers (like Muncy!)

I'm squarely in the middle of the standings with an inherited team in Ottoneu. I've got about $60 in surplus with $150 in keepers, but most of that is Nimmo/Joc Pederson/Billy McKinney/Jed Lowrie types (lower value guys who are all $3). I'm taking heed of your "try to compete not reubuild" advice... .What's your line in the sand with that?
Brad Johnson
4:33
So you have $250 to spend?
Look around the league for elite players who will probably be cut. Teams with $500+ of rostered players are a good place to start.
4:34
Then trade guys you'd prefer to cut (or fringe keepers) for them
Don't worry about the lack of surplus
Elite talent is more important than budget management

How should I value a player like brendan rodgers (in dynasty) who should hit the majors but has a young possible stud already in his spot? As a 2B or possible 3B if Arenado walks or hope he starts enough games at ss? Or look to move him if I already have 2nd covered
Brad Johnson
4:35
While good prospects getting blocked can be annoying - especially with the Rockies for some reason - my approach is to treat every premium talent as if they will play when ready
This tends to create roster value over time when you buy from frustrated owners who sell low because David Dahl or Peter Alonso can't find the light of day

Can I survive with Corbin being my only keeper pitcher in a h2h points? All of the top 20-25 starters are kept every season unless their price is massive, and those that aren;t kept are bid up like crazy in auction, so I would have to work a trade.
Brad Johnson
4:36
I prefer to have a loaded rotation in H2H, but yes. A hitter-first approach is workable.

I co-sign fantrax, best service I've used and well worth the cost. The redesigned the mobile site in the last couple of years to work well on mobil so I stopped using the janky app
Barker
4:36
Fantrax is a progressive web app, so it can be used as "an app" (aka, an icon on your mobile desktop)

What would a contract extension look like for me?
Brad Johnson
4:37
Zack Greinke's deal?

Do you think I'll be an above average DH this year?
Brad Johnson
4:37
I'm still worried the Astros are going to block you. Otherwise yes.
He's pretty similar to a right-handed Muncy/Nimmo
Luhnow
4:37
How much trade value do you think Tony Kemp has?
Brad Johnson
4:37
Oh not a lot. Which is a shame because I desperately want to see him set free.
4:38
I think Luhnow could get a good, but not fully established RP for him. I'll use Edubray Ramos as an example
Sticking with the Phillies pen since they have to trade some guys anyway, Tommy Hunter and Pat Neshek would be rough fits.
4:39
You're not going to get a prospect worth trading Kemp for
And I don't see another position where they can benefit from dealing him
