who are some realistic FA options, or guys you expect the Steelers to target?
Brian Batko

Oh man, I'd have to zoom out and really start looking at this FA class. Been more focused on coaching changes and the early draft process events to this point. I wonder if they'd look at bringing back Terrell Edmunds, or staying with names known locally, Jordan Whitehead. Just my assumption that Keanu Neal won't be back at strong safety.

Would it be better if we drafted top Center in the 1st round as opposed to the 6th best OT?  And then go for OT in 2nd round?  Time to stack the line with young movers!
Brian Batko

If it's the 6th-best OT, sure. Before getting too deep into all of it, I think the top four of Olu Fashanu (Penn State), Joe Alt (Notre Dame), JC Latham (Alabama) and Amarius Mims (Georgia) would have my eye at 20, and possibly Taliese Fuaga (Oregon State) as well.

Afternoon, Brian. After watching Kyle Hamilton play for the Ravens, It really made me miss having a Swiss army type player like him. Any chance Minkah can be that guy or any guys in the draft we can get?
Brian Batko

The moving around of Minkah Fitzpatrick has been a bit of a disappointing experiment, to me. Sure, he can do everything, but is that the best way to use him? Two safeties I like in this draft are Kamren Kinchens and Tyler Nubin. Tons of plays on the ball, good-to-great size, and plenty of experience in the power five ranks should enable them to start from Day 1. Rarely do you see safeties go in the first round anymore, but those two are the most likely to go that high in this draft I think.

Steelers have a lot of needs, and maybe a closing window as we see Cam nearing the end and TJ and Minkah burning through their prime years. Any chance this team trades future picks to get another bite at the apple in this draft to fill one of the many big needs this team has right now? I'm thinking you can't find a starting C, DL, CB, RT and ILB with the picks you have, without even discussing the nightmare at QB.
Brian Batko
2:58
Not sure they need to do that given the bites at the apple they'll get in free agency even before the draft. That's what makes the QB uncertainty so debilitating, right? It's tough to really know what you are or what you're trying to be when that position is up in the air the way it is here.

Say we go corner in round 1. Do you think one of Van Pran, Fraizer will still be there for us in round 2?
Brian Batko
2:58
Too early to say but I would think so.

BB Thanks for the chats! There's no way the steelers can hold on to Trubisky, he had his shots and just didn't/can't perform well. What's the upside to keeping him and do you know what his dead money hit would be?
Brian Batko

The only upside I suppose would be continuity, rapport with Pickett and veteran presence if Rudolph isn't back. But like...come on. Just cut the guy, save $3 million and absorb the $4.6 million dead cap hit. This isn't hard.

If you could, regale us with a Ron Cook anecdote time permitting...

Time permitting or G-rated chat permitting? In all seriousness, congrats to Ron on his retirement. I'll have a new person sitting to my left in the Acrisure Stadium press box, unless I move down to flank Ray Fittipaldo. The best anecdote I can think of at the moment is when I was having dinner at the hotel after the Steelers-Colts game and longtime college hoops writers Pat Forde and Dana O'Neil happened to sit down next to me. Small talk led us to the Post-Gazette and they both instantly remembered covering games and sharing press rows with Ron. He's an institution that way.  Best wishes to him in Florida.

And that's probably a good way to end today's chat. Thanks as always for stopping through, and enjoy the Super Bowl. Talk to you soon.
