My feeling is that it's been more of an evaluation than a development issue. A big reason being that it's not as if ex-Steelers corners have found their groove elsewhere with different coaches. Artie Burns seemed like a desperation pick after the Bengals stole William Jackson, and that turned out to be a whiff. Justin Layne hasn't panned out with any other teams.

Would you bring in Baker Mayfield as a backup at the right price?

No thanks. Give me an older, wiser veteran who could help mentor Pickett. Or a rookie who'd be willing to learn and be Pickett-lite, essentially. Not the in-betweener guy again.

Will Dionte Johnson be on the Steelers roster at the start of the 2023 season?

Never say never, but yes.

Good afternoon Brian. If the Steelers didn't pick a cornerback with their top pick, couldn't you argue that defensive line would be a bigger NEED than offensive line?

Absolutely you could. Especially if they don't bring back Larry Ogunjobi or Chris Wormley (who's coming off a torn ACL). And, assuming Tyson Alualu retires, he's out of the mix, too. I think they especially need an interior run-stopper type.

Hi Brian and thank you for the chat.  Is the Steelers' 'stability' an example of Einstein's definition of insanity?

Whoops, toddler got hold of the keyboard. "I want to  be like you and do work on the computer" he says. Remind me to tell him in 14 years that there are other ways to make the world a better place than being a sports writer. But to answer your question, no. They won their division a few years ago. They keep winning more than they lose. They need to tweak some things but they aren't a failing organization.
OK folks, out of time for the day. We'll talk again next week. Enjoy the "big game."
