How about a run stuffing NT out of UCONN?

I know my partner Ray Fittipaldo is a big fan of Travis Jones, so he strikes me as someone who if he slips to the middle rounds, then that might be a steal for a team that needs to improve the run defense.

Seems like old times. What might be a great defensive lineman available in the draft, and a QB from Pitt. Your thoughts

Ha, good observation, Zippy. I didn't live through that 1983 draft but there certainly are some interesting parallels. Who'd have thought We'd be in a similar situation all these decades later, although I guess it would be even more similar if Roethlisberger was going into his final season instead of already retired.

Were the Rooneys concerned by all the empty seats this year? I know every game is sold out, but still -- interest is lower than it's been in a decade, concession sales take a hit, and the shine is off of Heinz Field. Do they worry about butts in seats, or is that way down the list of concerns?

I'm sure they do. But I do think those issues are global, and there are very few fan bases/cities/franchises that are filling their stadium week in and week out. That's another part of the reason why this offseason is so crucial for them, and giving fans hope at the QB position.

Brian-  which of the draft gurus opinions do you value most?
Brian Batko
2:55
He's not a typical draftnik, but Chris Simms is usually unique in some of his opinions on prospects and I think he has a really impressive track record on QBs in particular. I'll be curious to see what he thinks of this class given how much variance there is.

Thanks for the chats B squared.  Why not bring in Trubisky to give Mason some competition, go get some quality OL, get younger at D line through draft?  Do we really think Trubisky will be worse than Ben's last year?
Brian Batko
2:58
No, but that also doesn't mean it's the right fit for value and what the Steelers want/need at that position. Mitch Trubisky might be more talented than Dwayne Haskins but he's a similar reclamation project all the same.

Why is Rodgers still being brought up as a potential QB here.  Kind of ridiculous he's even a mention with the Steelers.  Yes, they need a QB and he's the best out there but no way he's agreeing to come here and run Canada's offense and no way the Steelers could or would dish out the money (or draft picks/players) needed to make the trade and entice him to come here.

BostonArt has spoken! But no, in all seriousness, I think it's looking less and less likely that he'll end up anywhere but back in Green Bay for one more go-round. Which is probably ideal for both parties there.

Brian is it me, or do you see an obnoxious influx of draft analysis this year? Everyone seems to have the inside scoop on what the Steelers are going to do. When i read an article that says the Steelers are going to trade up in the draft for a QB, I stop right there!

As I mentioned on Friday's Pod of Steel with Ray, I was on vacation last week with my wife's family in Hawaii and at one point we're driving and my mother-in-law is scrolling through her phone and says "Oh, Brian the Steelers are trading up for a quarterback?" First thought of course is what did I miss? Then a second later she goes "Nevermind, that's just the latest mock draft." It's truly a silly time of year and it's crazy how much this whole draft season has become a nonstop rumor mill. But that's what people want to read, listen to, etc., so hey, there's certainly a place for it, even if some get annoyed by the never-ending speculation.
OK folks, that'll do it for today. I'm heading to Indianapolis tomorrow morning for the combine, so I'm sure we'll have plenty of stuff to read on the site throughout this week and much to talk about next Monday. See you then.
