OL, and you could make a case for any position - tackle, guard, even center. That unit needs to be a lot better. Some combination of experience and youthful talent is in order this offseason.

Hey, we have breaking QB news during the chat: Colts are sending Carson Wentz to the Commanders for two third-rounders, per Adam Schefter. Not exactly a high price to pay for a former MVP candidate (who has since been mediocre).

Your thoughts on how good Bobby Wagner would look in Black and Yellow…

Don't all linebackers look good in those Steelers jerseys? Just a classic defensive fit.

Do you think JuJu is coming back?

Wouldn't shock me (like it did last year) but I'm leaning no.

Hi Brian thanks for the chat. I just sincerely hope Mason Rudolph is not our starting Qb next year. He won some game for sure but he is awful in the pocket and his decision making process is too slow? What does Steelers management see in him?
Brian Batko

I think they see a game-manager type who won't lose them games, for the most part. Now, you can argue whether that's valid, considering he's thrown a bad interception in each of his last two regular-season starts. But the Steelers also might see a guy who can still improve his pocket presence and decision-making to become a better, more consistent starter. Again, your mileage on that may vary.

Brian - thanks for the chat - I don't hear a lot about Mariota as a possibility - I think he would be a great stopgap and veteran...too expensive or just too old?

Hey, didn't I throw out Marcus Mariota's name earlier in this chat? At 28, I don't think he's too old. Also not sure what he'll command on the open market, especially since he's been out of the limelight longer than Trubisky, but that could be a good thing if it means no manufactured bidding war for his services. You have to like his mobility and pedigree, if not his overall body of work in Tennessee. And it's not like he was backing up a bum in Vegas.

I think Steelers address offensive line in free agency and draft Jordan Davis with 20, and Desmond Ridder in second. Your thoughts?

That sounds like a great plan to me, if that's how it works out. No guarantee either will slip that far in the draft but I'd view it as tremendous value on both. And I'm all for upgrading the OL in free agency. Maybe the ideal move is one new vet starter, one rookie starter, but sheesh, this line may very well need three new starters.

Hey Brian who are the most prominent free agents linked to the Steelers? And as far as hoping that Devon Bush plays up to his potential rather than getting an established guy like Wagner is a huge risk considering our run defense was horrible last year

"Linked" is a broad term, but I suppose Bucs center Ryan Jensen and Mitch Trubisky would fit that category.

Wow, no immediate chat reactions to the Wentz trade? I thought you'd be all over it. Ah well, nevertheless, it's time for me to go. Leftover comments/questions/etc. can be sent to my email for this week's mailbag at bbatko@post-gazette.com. Fare thee well...
