I would not be surprised by that at all. Matt Canada has to know that helping this offense find another gear is necessary to keep him employed at this point. And if Tomlin was indeed mandating a more conservative plan last year, I get the sense he trusts Pickett to do much more this year.

What’s going to happen with Lamar Jackson’s contract demands?  I hope the ravens sign him up long term.  I just don’t think he’s worth the money he wants.

People in the know seem to think the Ravens signing Odell Beckham is a signal that Lamar Jackson will indeed be back in black (and purple). The trade request he tweeted about sure made it look like a foregone conclusion that he'd end up elsewhere, but the Ravens still have leverage and it's entirely possible both sides are just posturing en route to the eventual compromise.

Do you think the Ravens are out of their minds like I do for  paying OBJ 15 mil???

I do! Very un-Ravens like move, too, right? That was odd.

Why did the Steelers sign two ILBs with coverage issues? They seem like the same player in a lot of respects. They are both downhill thumpers who struggle against the pass. Granted, they both represent upgrades over Bush and Spillane but they are both Mark Robinson types.

Because there just aren't many ILBs in the NFL who hit free agency who DON'T have coverage issues. It's getting harder and harder to play that position every year as offenses become more sophisticated, tight ends become more polished/athletics and even running backs become more like wide receivers. Cole Holcomb has the athletic profile to get the job done. But hey, even right now in this year's draft class, there are a number of ILB prospects who are being evaluated positively for their coverage skills. Let's see how many of them actually become plus linebackers in the league.

I don’t understand the excuse that don’t waste a high draft pic on a NT because they don’t play every down. If you’re going to be a run oriented team you also need to stop the run which requires a big man in the middle. Just ask Big Snack

I don't disagree, Big Guy. Especially in this division, with two teams so entrenched in their run-heavy identities, I'm OK with "reaching" for a specialist in terms of a two-gapping nose tackle. Just get someone who can be a LITTLE more useful than Dan McCullers. Or a lot more.

l see a scary parallel between Cruz' injury and Rennie Stennett's. Your thoughts?

My thoughts are that it's time to end this chat and you should ask someone other than me about the Pirates.
Thanks for passing through today, everyone. Nice chatting with you all and we'll have Ray Fittipaldo on this hot seat tomorrow for more Steelers banter. Cheers.
