Yeah, I think some people have noticed.

The recent rumors of the Steelers hoping to trade up for Jalen Carter scream smokescreen to me. In what world would they ignore glaring needs at CB and OT to draft a DT with obvious character and discipline concerns. Seems very unusual to me
Brian Batko

My answer would be a world in which they aren't deterred by those character/discipline concerns and want to find their next great defensive lineman to succeed Cam Heyward. Not saying I agree with that, but that's the world.

Rumors will be rumors but any thoughts regarding Peter King noting the Steelers would like to trade up to the 9th pick if Jalen Carter is there?
Brian Batko

There might be something to it, there might not be. And it might just be informed speculation based on the thinking that the Steelers could be the right organizational fit for Carter based on Mike Tomlin's respected reputation around the league.

Bats, I'm smelling a reach for Deonte Banks after all the good LTs and CBs are gone. Thoughts?
Brian Batko
2:51
It's not hard to imagine a run on the top 3 OTs and top 3 CBs right before the Steelers pick. And they had him in for a visit. Would it be a reach? I guess you could say that, but he also has a lot of support among experts.

What traits do you think Pittsburgh is looking for when it comes to picking a WR this year?
Brian Batko
2:53
To me, slot capability would be a must. While it never hurts to have another long, fast wideout who can run and make plays downfield, you checked that box last year with George Pickens.

Would you be surprised if the Steelers select a center with 1 of their top 4 picks or are they content with Mason Cole as the starter?
Brian Batko
2:57
Not particularly. I'd put center in that bucket of "not a need now, but don't turn your back on someone who could turn into a starter down the road." Maybe it's a guy who falls to the third round because he needs to get stronger but has good movement ability. Or a guy who would have to transition to that spot from playing T/G in college.

Here's how my best case draft would go - #1 B Jones T, #2 Porter- next best CB if not there, #2B Bresee DL, #3 - Best OLB available, #4 Best WR remaining

That's pretty good, but how about this? Broderick Jones, then Christian Gonzalez, then Jalen Carter, then Jaxon Smith-Njigba, then Jack Campbell. Hey, you said "best case."

As always, folks, I appreciate all the interest and questions. We'll have Ray Fittipaldo back to chat tomorrow for more draft talk. Hope you enjoyed it.
