That's a very honest self-scout by you, Chuks. I tend to agree.

BB: Thanks for the chat. Non-draft question. Listening to ESPN and they said only 39% of the 1st round picks since 2007 received a second contract (after 4 years) from the team that drafted them. Kind of hits home with Bush, Edmunds, and Burns. I was surprised it was that low. Your thoughts?

As we always say, it's an inexact science. But it is wise to point out that it's not just the Steelers who have whiffed on high-profile first-round picks.

Hi Brian. I didn't like Van Ness as the pick at 17 but the more I watch film the more I see a bigger TJ Watt (JJ maybe?). What's your take on him? Was he not your pick at 17 because you feel he'll be off the board?

If the Steelers don't trade up and Lukas Van Ness falls to 17, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they pick him and develop him as Cam Heyward's successor. I don't think he lasts to 17, though, and the only way I see the Steelers trading up is if it's for a left tackle.

Here is what I see (or hope) to see...  Round one @ 17, Broderick Jones or the OT from Tennessee.  Peezy's kid shockingly slips to round two.  In round two @ 32 they trade down slightly, pickup an extra pick and take a CB (JPJ).  At 49 they take Jack Campbell ILB.  With extra pick from trade or 80th pick, they take a DL.  What you think?  Looking forward to the draft.  Go Steelers!

You're too optimistic, Jay. Joey Porter Jr. isn't making it out of the first round.

it sounds like the Steelers are willing to part with pick 32. If they do would they use it to move up or move back?

The upside of that pick is fielding calls for it all day Friday, which would mean trading back.

Addison available at 32.  Do we take him?

Depends who else is available. I lean no.

Love the concept of your mock, getting a difference maker at 12 without giving up one of our 2nd rd picks. Is this realistic to expect the Texans to go for a trade like this? I would still like to see us trade back from 32 to spread the wealth of picks down the line.

Thanks, Rodney. My thinking was the Texans have a ton of picks in this draft and they have a ton of needs on their roster. Would they rather have 12 or 17 and 80? Who knows, but I didn't think it was all that out-there.
Well we've gotta call it for today, folks. Thanks for all the questions. Looking forward to Thursday-Friday-Saturday, three great days of the NFL calendar. Stay tuned to the P-G for plenty of written/audio/visual content to come.
