The Lions had the #32 pick and traded out.  Do you think they wanted Pickett and traded out after the Steelers took him?
Brian Batko
2:49
That would make a lot of sense. Detroit didn't end up adding a QB in any round, but it's possible Pickett was the only one they had eyes for. Just from the outside looking in, I thought he would be a good fit for what they're all about up there under Dan Campbell.

Are the Steelers still looking at free agents… especially at linebacker?  Thanks Brian.
Brian Batko

They never stop looking, but I doubt they'd add another linebacker. There are plenty on the roster, inside and outside.

This looks like a good Steelers draft, but I could also see it turning out to be a bad one if Pickett doesn’t end up being a franchise QB, if Pickens isn’t healthy, if Leal is doesn’t have the body type to play any position well, and if Austin is too small. Thoughts?

Of course. Pickett strikes me as about the safest QB they could've picked this year, or the safest you could ever see at No. 20 overall, but picking a QB in the first round is inherently risky.

Morning Bats,
Fun draft as usual,...much harder to predict this year than in years past.  Any Specific player(s) you are especially excited about in this year's haul?
Brian Batko
2:53
It was harder to predict, but in the end, it turned out that the positions many thought they would address in the first three rounds, they addressed in the first three rounds. And most everyone projected the Connor Heyward move, so in that sense, it played out somewhat as expected.

Hey BB! Are you surprised the Steelers completely ignored o-line, especially when Penn State OT Rasheed Walker was still available?
Brian Batko
2:54
Yes, but Walker didn't work out at all this pre-draft process due to lingering injuries, so that's likely what dropped him to the 7th round. But I'm with you that I would've taken a chance on the talent/pedigree with one of my late picks.

Brian, how comfortable do you feel about the Steelers run defense even if with the return iof alualu an tuit? Bear in mind that all
Brian Batko

I'm always comfortable about the Steelers run defense, pass defense, kicking game, everything, because my pay check doesn't depend on it.

Did Claypool announce his replacement during the draft?
Brian Batko
2:56
No, but I think he announced Diontae Johnson's replacement.

Hey Brian.  So what do you think the Steelers get for Mason in a trade?  5th round pick?  7th?
Brian Batko

Not sure this is a great offseason to be trying to move Mason Rudolph. Jimmy G, Baker Mayfield, Nick Foles are all looking for a new home, as well. Granted, Rudolph might cost the least to acquire, but what, someone's gonna give up a sixth-round pick for a guy that the Steelers have recruited over twice now?

Will Mason get a legit shot to start, or will a FA signing/#1 pick hold more weight than the best preseason?

Hey, if he sticks around and he vastly outplays Trubisky/Pickett in the preseason, it will sure be interesting. I can't imagine Pickett holding a clipboard for a year, but I suppose there's something to be said for bringing a QB along slowly. It worked for the guy in KC. And yes, I know, he was more of a project coming into the league than Pickett. But I'm answering a chat question here, not defending a dissertation.
OK everyone, that's it for me. Tons of good and even great questions today. We'll have a lot more post-draft content coming on the site the rest of this week, including more chats!, so stay tuned.
