That's their goal but it's not always a realistic aim. They know that as well as we do, Lou. As for TJ Watt and Cam Heyward, they'll always say the right things but that doesn't mean they agree with everything the team does. Nor should they. They're human.

The Steelers signed Trey Sermon? Wasn't he with the club previously?
Brian Batko
12:46
No, you might be thinking of the other running back from that 2020 Ohio State team, Master Teague

12:47
Do you think Khan is being disingenuous when he says the team is happy with the WR room?
Brian Batko
12:47
Ah, not sure I'd use that word, but I also don't think he's always 100% transparent in those public interviews. Why would he or any GM be?

Brian, do you think New Orleans is a realistic landing spot for Rodgers?
Brian Batko
12:50
Nah, they're even less of a contender than the Steelers. Unless he thinks by going there he could vault them to the top of that relatively weak division, but man, they just drafted Tyler Shough and have a new head coach in Kellen Moore. I don't see them as a franchise that would want to pursue a likely one-year rental.

Brian, do you anticipate any more FA signings to fill out the roster?  If so, what positions do you think they add?
Brian Batko
12:51
I believe they still have a spot or two left after signing tryout guys Trey Sermon and Gareth Warren. But we already know one of those slots has to go to a veteran QB. And then they might bring a second long-snapper to camp. In other words, nothing earth-shattering.

What up BB?  Thanks as always for the chats. Do you think we could get DJ Moore off the Bears for a 4th or 5th rounder. Could be a solid addition and give us a true WR 2
Brian Batko
12:52
No, way too much dead money for him to leave Chicago now. He got a huge deal last year so they're committed to him and vice versa, for better or worse.

They wouldn’t be this far into the offseason without knowing who their QB1 is. Since they haven’t named Rudolph that guy, Rodgers is QB1, right?
Brian Batko
12:53
Don't read anything into the Steelers not "naming" Mason Rudolph the starter. They wouldn't be doing that regardless at this time of year. But I do still have my money on Rodgers if I had to bet on Week 1 QB.

DK Metcalf has always had a strong 2 along side him. JSN, Lockett. Seems like a big risk entering the season without acquiring one. What say you?
Brian Batko
12:55
Pat Freiermuth is a strong 2. I could argue he's never played with a TE as good as Freiermuth.

In my opinion the biggest x-factor for this team would be Brod Jones. If he does not play well, it doesnt matter who the QB or RB is. They will be running for their lives. The fact that he whiffs so many of his blocks esp the pass blocking is dumb  founding that they traded up to select him.
Brian Batko
12:57
Good point. There's a real strong case to be made that he's the most important piece on offense this year other than the QB. Especially because I don't see a real strong swing tackle option.

Which team will be the next to win a playoff game or series?  Pirates, Penguins, or Steelers?  Will it be within the next 3 years?
Brian Batko
12:59
Well it sure as you know what ain't the Pirates. Sid's only 37? I'll go Penguins winning a series, maybe even as soon as next season. Not that I know much about hockey, but I know it can get funky in the postseason. Then again, one-game playoffs in football can too, but ...

Hi Brian! Thanks for the chats! With the recent signing of a Colts RB, does this not signal the end of Patterson's role with the team? Not sure why they picked up another RB.
Brian Batko

They aren't mutually exclusive. Cordarrelle Patterson could be at the end of the road and the team could just roll with three RBs. Jonathan Ward got signed off a tryout at rookie camp last year and didn't end up making the team.

Hey Bats, liked the draft and the trade of Pickens but cmon Khan can't come out and say they are playing for a Championship this year - they don't want to say re-build but that is what they are doing.  They aren't close and doubt they are close to a winning record this year.

I've said this a million times and I'll say it again. Until I actually see the Steelers have a losing record, I'm not predicting it. A man named Duck Hodges from Kimberly, Alabama, out of Samford tried out at rookie minicamp, signed on to be the No. 4 QB in training camp, didn't make the 53, came back around and was starting by Week 6, changing the course of his entire life to the point that he's now engaged to be married to one of the most famous women in country music. The team went 8-8 that year. Yeah, I'm not temping fate with whatever mystical cosmos are steering this Steelers .500 streak ship.

OK folks, and with that trip down memory lane back to 2019, we are out of time. Thanks for spending part of your afternoon with us. Ray Fittipaldo will be here at noon tomorrow.
