No, I don't think the corners can help too much in that regard. It's gonna have to be the ILBs, slots and safeties who pick it up when it comes to defending the middle third. I'm skeptical of new faces like Cole Holcomb, Elandon Roberts, Chandon Sullivan and Keanu Neal, so we'll see.

Hi- With Canada saying something to the effect of 'The offense will look very similar this year'...what can we deduce? The players were not executing? He's stubborn? Low risk plays for a still young QB? Other?
Brian Batko
2:39
Yeah, he's stubborn. Stubborn when it comes to talking to media opportunities. Look, as I said on the North Shore Drive last week with Chris Carter, I know we have to keep going to Matt Canada's interviews and asking him questions. That doesn't mean he's ever going to pull back the curtain to give us insightful answers. And that doesn't make him a bad guy or a nitwit or anything. It's just how he handles that part of the gig. Some coaches are like that. Others are loquacious. It is what it is. Don't put much stock into what he says in front of a mic.

I remember reading a story a while back that Mike Wallace sung 'I believe I can fly' in the cafeteria at Latrobe.  Since the team will be in Latrobe soon, it made me wonder, do the veterans still make the rookies stand up and sing in the cafeteria?
Brian Batko
2:40
Can't say I've seen anyone, rookie or otherwise, break out in song in the cafeteria. But the rookie show is still a thing, and that's often when the new guys try their hand at singing, dancing, or whatever other talents they may have up their sleeves.

Hello Brian,  miss the "chip ham and football, thats what Pittsburgh does " days.  2 hypotheticals for you;  steelers go 9-8, defense is top 5 but KP and offense very pedestrian,  do you think KP and Canada get 1 more year?  2.  Steelers go 12-5 with top 5 defense,  running game is strong but offense is pedestrian,  do you think KP and Canada get another year?

Hey, thanks Jay. It's too bad Ray Fittipaldo and I had that falling out. (Yes, I'm joking.) As for indulging your hypotheticals, 1) No, I think they'd look to get a new OC and 2) No, I think they'd look to get a new OC. Basically, if the offense is "pedestrian" again in basically any way, the Matt Canada deal should probably be over.

How much longer do Steelers fans have to wait to have realistic expectations of playoff success? Is Mike Tomlin capable of making the necessary changes to make that happen, or will the front office have to step in and shake things up?
Brian Batko
2:46
Colonel, I wish I knew. I'd place a hefty wager if I did. And history tells me Mike Tomlin is capable of getting this franchise back to postseason success. But if the front office can continue upgrading the talent, whether or not you want to call that a shake-up, that'll go a long way toward helping Tomlin do that. Will he do that? I don't know. There was always going to be a natural tearing-down process of sorts in the post-Ben Roethlisberger stage. And I understand people wanting to see it rebuilt quickly, but they've fallen behind in their conference and division.

Is Loudermilk on the bubble?
Brian Batko

I still think he sticks around, but yeah, I'd say he's far from safe. So much depth on the DL. A lot of experience, a lot of youth, a lot of talent at the top.

Brian,  over/under 25 TD passes for Pickett?

Give me the under, Dr. Incrinculent Boob
Gregg in Shaler
2:49
Is Gunnar a lock for return duties? He was displaced in that role and it seems one of the few positions we have t upgraded or brought in competition.
Brian Batko
2:51
Absolutely not. Far from a lock. He's closer to a lock to be cut in my eyes. Not only is Calvin Austin an option there, but so is undrafted free agent Jordan Byrd. That dude is quick and was very dangerous as a returner at San Diego State. Had four touchdowns, including three on punt returns. Go Shaler, by the way. Baseball team won the state title, which we love to see.
OK friends, that'll do it for today. Sorry I couldn't get to everyone but Ray will be here tomorrow for Round 2. Have a great week.
