Hey B., Disappointing end to DeCastro's NINE seasons with the Steelers. 3-5 in the playoffs, no ring... but he never played on a team with a losing record.. hey wait... shouldn't  they extend him rather than cutting him?

Sup, Tommy. It is a rather stark example of yet another "all-time Steeler" who didn't reach the pinnacle that so many of the franchise greats did before them. I suppose the Super Bowl was tougher to win back then, but this was largely an era of missed opportunities. And I'd love to know what Ben is really thinking when he looks at the OL depth chart now, with barely anyone still around that he's been in the heat of battle with. Interesting times, indeed.

Hello Brian!  I just read this morning that the Steelers now have $12 million in free cap space due to all the recent moves.  Is it a certainty that they save some of this money to pick up some offensive line help when other teams make their cuts after camp?

Hi Daren. I wouldn't say it's a guarantee. They've got nine guys in Okorafor, Banner, Haeg, Moore Jr. (T), Dotson, Turner, Coward (G), Green, Hassenauer (C) and Finney (G/C) whom they've gone out of their way to draft/sign. Can't imagine that top 10 inspires much confidence in the fan base, but the Steelers seem to like these guys. Even someone like Aviante Collins has some degree of NFL experience. If you're still reading this deep into a Steelers chat on June 28th, you have to be ready for an Aviante Collins ref.

Brian any chance we could afford a guy like Justin Houston?
Brian Batko

Sure. Any FA still out there at this point has to be ready to swallow his pride and take a lesser deal if he wants to keep playing. Someone like Houston who's made a bunch of money, is 32 and probably wants to play for a contender, maybe he can afford to wait around and sign with someone later in the game. But he does strike me as a similar option to Ryan Kerrigan, whom the Steelers reportedly had interest in signing before he went to Philly.

OK friends, might as well end such an OL-heavy chat with a big-picture OL prediction. Thanks as always for chatting by, whether you're a regular or just bored on a Monday afternoon that's far too hot for anyone to be outside. I'm off next week, so I'll talk to yinz in a little while. Be nice to people.
